They catch fish and dont wiggle while doing it.
Reaper lures replied to AustinTXAngler's topic in Soft Plastics
My best advice is ------------------------- DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE SHIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your baits catch fish!!!! Right!!!!!!! I see so many people saying this brand does'nt sink as fast a yamamoto or these worms don't have the same shimmy as Yamamoto's. Bass don't have a stop watch to time the fall on senko's and they sure as heck don't care about the shimmy. Keep doing what your doing and you will keep catching fish!!!!! By the way I like a slower fall rate it gives that Bass more time to get pissed off and inhale the worm. -
his molds seem to have pretty good detail to me and they are unbreakable. They also seem to have a very glossy finish. To me they look as good as cnc quality with out the cnc price. Sorry Del not trying to offend you just giving my first impressions. Also it looks like the baits he has molded all are positioned strait.

When you guy's put the bait in the bottom of the pan then pour the resin around it how do you pour the next half? Do you have to sand the face of the mold so it only cover's half the bait? I am not under standing how you do two piece molds like this. Please explain.

your tube mold problems are solved!!!!!!!!!
Reaper lures replied to Reaper lures's topic in Soft Plastics
Red, No you still have to cut your own skirt. Maybe Del could do this in his molds if he is so interested. -
I have made and mastered the tube mold. I am not going into specifics YET because I going to talk with Del about having him make the molds from Aluminum. I will say this much it is a two piece mold and pours very much like pouring senko's. The tubes are hollow and the process is exactly the same as if you would have hand dipped the tube as a matter of fact I used a hand dipped tube to make my mold. I can pour a tube in about 3-4 seconds so as you can imagine this is allot faster than dipping. I will talk with Del and if he is not interested I will give the plans along with full instructions and pics here. The mold is easy to make and easy to pour I will keep you guy's posted.

Merc same goes for me just send my extra's to whom ever may want them or keep them for yourself which ever suits you best. I greatly appreciate you putting this together and spending your own time to put this together and make it happen. I am sorry some soured it. I would also like to thank all who participated I know I haven't seen the baits yet but this is an exelent group of guy's here and I am glad to be able to sample all of your baits. Thanks again to everyone involved.

Any new news yet On when the baits will be completed and sent from those who haven't sent yet? When someone like Merc takes his own personal time to do some thing like this for us people should be be a little more respectful to him and the other's in the tackle swap we all made a deal in a sense. Step up and atleast give us an update on when you will have the baits done! When people do things like this it can cause guy's like Merc not to do things like this in the future and the ones who participate may not want to agree to do this again. Kinda goes on the screw me once shame on you screw me twice shame on me policy huh. I was fishing today and the water temp was any where from 48-51 so my fishing is pretty much done Thanks!

Sam, Did you leave the cap on or off. I am assuming you left the cap to the marker off. I like your desine alot. Also how did you get the rings in your mold?
-
Merc, I don't think anyone is blaming you we are just exited about all the great stuff coming. I understand people get busy or just don't have time but they should have noted that up front or said some thing came up and they couldn't participate because of unforseen reason's or that they simply couldn't produce that many baits in a short time. Seminol was realy looking forward to trying his baits in his big tourney and other's like myself have a very short time left to fish. Any way thanks for putting this together I for one greatly appreciate your hard work and effort. Hopefuly I am speaking for the whole group when I say no one is blaming you. Even if I don't get to use these baits this year I will still be happy just wish I could try em out this year.

Whats the scoop has everyone sent thier baits in yet? This is the 19th baits were due on the 15th right? I live in Pa. and in another 2 weeks our fishing will more than likely be done it sure would be nice to be able to try out all the great stuff before the water temp drops below 50. How about an update from those who haven't turned thier baits in yet. Maybe Merc has has some info. I feel like a kid at Christmas.

I am wondering which dye to use for dying bucktails and also how long do you leave the tail in the dye. Also will the dye turn the brown and black part the color of the dye also or just the white. also what is the best way extract the hair from the tail just cut it or what?

Hopefuly the few who who haven't finished yet will be done soon. Maybe the best will come last if thats so it's worth waiting because there are some fantastic lures in those pics.

Jeremy, Have you tested this wood yet because before you make 25 baits up I have done extensive wood testing with making popper type baits and the softer the wood the better. Hard wood baits don't float real high and tend to dive on the retrieve. A real soft wood seems to give a better action. Hope I have been of help and if your making bass poppers you have no need to make wire through construction. Just drill holes and use 20 guage wire make your own hook eye's and use devcon to epoxy them in. I prommise you will be fine. I made a popper for a guy this spring and he caught quite a few fish this summer with no problems. I started doing this with all my cranks too I caught a 4 1/2 pounder this summer on one so the epxoy holds the wire in pretty good.

I called Chuck because a friend and myself are considering buying an ijection machine. I thought I would give Calhoun a try because of all the talk here. Well I asked him to send me some tube type hard plastic. He suggested Medium. I tried it and I had one hell of a time getting it to turn clear when it did it turned muddy water brown and then quickly scorched??????????? It probably took me a half hour just to get it to turn. I smoked and stunk so bad I had to leave the room before it even scorthced. For a medium grade of plastic it was very soft almost the softness of M-F super soft. I am wondering if I recieved a bad batch or if more people have had this trouble please help before we spend a lot of money and wind up dumping it all down the drain. I am looking for a tube grade plastic what kind should I get from calhoun for tubes the medium seems way too soft. My first impression was not good please pass along any tips you may have. I realy want this plastic to work just don't want the major hassle I got so far. I will add I used a large amount due to dipping in my pan for tubes
