  1. You guys are making me blush. Those are just my production baits. You should see my custum baits. I have to keep the secret for a while though. BTW Sam I am a taxidermist. Taxidermy is way to time consuming though so I stoped taking customers. I only do my own mounts. I am so slammed with orders for my bluegill I havent been able to finish any of my other bait projects but I will post them when I have some others ready. Thanks again guys Matt
  2. I order 55gallon drums from calhoun and I mix them properly. I have had some bubbles before to. what i do is stir them out. Stir let sit and re haet. After a while you will cook them out. I think they are coused by moister.
  3. The prize money for the record was coverd by an insurance company. when Mike long caught his 20+lber and Jed dickerson caught a 21+ lber the insuance company got scared and wouldnt reniew the policy. Now there is no world record club.
  4. I dont know if this is how you do it but, I know how to do it. You pour it like a laminate. 1st you pour 1 half of the worm. 2nd you pour a zig zag vein. 3rd put the mold together and fill it up.
  5. Very nice looking. How big is it? The only problem I see would be the potentail for the anal fin to break off easily. I think if you made it thick at the base with a fast taper and made it shorter you could remedy this, plus you would be able to keep your second hook there without it getting stuck on the fin. That is an impresive bait even if you are a experianced lure maker let alone for your first try.
  6. Thanks guys ! it took me a long time to get them to look and swim and sit like I wanted them to. Man I think I pulled out a lot of hair on these things. Now its on to the next project. Matt

  8. If you are not the manufacturer or importer you dont have to pay as much. For instance if your brother is the manufacturer and sells you a lure for $1 and you sell it to the costomers or stores you become the distributor. so say you sell the bait for $10. Instead of you having to pay $1 in exise tax your brother is responsible for paying the tax on $1 witch is a dime. So if you get two business liscenses and have a partner (or brother) own the manufacturing co. and you become the distrubutor you can save a lot of money if you sell a lot of baits. If this is just a hobby than its probably not worth the trouble.
  9. It would work if you were using it on a small flat lure. It is desgeid to hide seems not to scale a wide area. basicaly you get one pass with it. It works good for hidding seems and it might work for making impresions in foil but i wouldnt try it on a rounded bait.
  10. this is the cheapest place I found http://placon.com/
  11. I have used clay to fill in were the weed gaurds go. Then i just clean it out when done. I like the bondo idea but I would use a mold release so it could be removed easily
  12. I use Calhoun but before that I used MF. Both are great, Calhoun is cheaper. I would just buy the softest kind that you can and add hardner. After you fish it for a little while you wont use any hardner.
  13. Nerdy I am prety sure you wont like the action with the harder plastic. I use very soft stuff for my bay baits. They dont last as long but they get bit real good and have a tone of action. As for your mold. go get some devcon and mix it up with some alchol to thin it. paint a few light coats until the plaster stops absorbing the epoxy and it dries with a nice glossy finish.
  14. I think spiderwebing is caused by the paint drying before it gets to the lure. The viscosity goes like this. To thick and it wont spray well or it will splatter. To thin and it will run or it will not cover well. it is just a matter of playing around with your brush and diferent paints. I am sure you will get it.
  15. smooth sil works fine. One tip, lightly sprinkle talc powder over your mold cavities it helps the lead flow. I use a little sewn up cloth bag and lightly tap it on the cavities. You could just sprinkle some in and then tap the excess out.
  16. Thanks, I just ordered some matzuo's
  17. I am looking for some black nickle trebles size 2/0 - 4/0 i know owner and Gamie has them but they are very expensive. do any of you guys know of any other brands that make them that are a little cheaper? thanks
  18. Hey CJ go to Micheals you can buy small jars of poly glitter for a couple bucks.
  19. They work ok but they do not make sharp cuts. They work by melting through the mylar witch does not give you sharp edges. However they are fast and easy to use.
  20. softner makes them wiggle. the weight of the salt also makes them wiggle keep adding both until they come out right. my senko copies fall and wiggle exactly like the originals. i dont remember my formula but I put a ton of softner and salt. When I pull them from the molds they are too soft, but give them a little time and the salt will suck up some of the oils and make them stiffer. also if you make them to stiff you can lightly roll them with a pan on top to break them down a little. I totaly believe that the wiggle is the most important part about a senko. I only fish them wacky style to get the most wiggle. Matt
  21. CJ make a two piece plaster mold and coat your master with vasalene. make sure your plaster is completely dry, this may take a couple days.. instead of coating your mold(witch isnt needed) sprinkle some talk powder or baby powder on the mold then tap it out. this will help the lead pour easily. Matt
  22. dont use a thinner because it can dull your moldsand even take away some of the detale. try wipping them with a paper towel use some greese cutting dish soap
  23. You must have your primary colors red, yellow, and blue. than you need black and white. Than there are colors that you cant mix like chartruse and floresents. you should also get some powders and some glitters. with the basic colors and powders and glitter you can make any color. You dont need anybodys recipes. you can match any color on your own it is really easy
  24. Hey J.C. there are certain additives that can cause the plastisol to harden over time. Also if you leave your baits on paper it will suck the oil out and make you baits harder. There are also chemicals that will harden your baits. Some baits can be softened by rolling over them with a rolling pin. Matt
  25. If you look at the storms you can see they are junk. A lot of us hand pour guys are making superior baits that WORK! thats the bottom line. if the bait has proven its self to catch big fish then there is a demand and people will pay more for a quality bait. If the bait doesn't work then the demand will die quickly. If you seen a 15lb bass on a bed what would you rather use some cheap bait or a quality one that has already caught a lot of big fish?
