  1. I fixed my problem. I had been smoking the mold before hand so that was not it. Out of frustration I got out the Dremel. I made the pour holes a tad bigger and it works perfectly. I get good results each time now. On a side note... I walked in to a sporting goods store today looking for lead. This place has a indoor shooting range and they get about 1000 pounds of lead build up each month. They sell it by the bucket full (bout 100 lbs) for $10. There are a lot of brass casings and wads but the price seems to be right. Thanks for the help.
  2. Coley, I am having problems with the do-it buzzbait mold (1/8 - 1/4 oz.) I am heating my lead in a hot pot 2. I have tried pouring several times without wires to heat the mold then pour with the hook and wire. I have had good results from the Hilts bullet weight molds. The opening seems to be larger in my hilts molds. I have tried slow steady pours and fast steady pours with the do-its. When I first received my hot pot, I melted down all my lead and made a bunch of smaller pieces that would be easier to work with. I know that I mixed hard lead with soft lead when I did this. Thanks for your help!
  3. O.K., I got my molds in and I am having a hard time pouring the smaller pieces. My question is this... I bought 10 lbs. of lead from a plumbing supply store. Thinking that it would be soft pure lead. When I try to scratch it with my fingernail it seems hard. Where can I get some real pure lead to see if this is my problem? Also, Is the finger nail test a good indication to use before buying it? I am thinking that the large ingots might seem harder than they really are. Thanks for all your help.
  4. I like to throw a split shot rig (texas rig plastic with a light weight secured above the hook). I like to use the long finesse weights for this and thought that the Do-it lure body mold would make a great split shot weight. Has anyone tried this? Would the lure body be too thick to pinch on the line?
  5. I just received my Hot Pot 2. My molds are not in yet so I decided to make a few ingots. I can't believe how easy this is. I was expecting the melting process to be more work. Anyway... How should I clean the Hot Pot 2 after each use?
  6. I have decided to dive a little deeper and mold my own baits. I am looking for a buzzbait mold and was wondering if you could use a spinnerbait mold for a buzzbait? The reason I want to do this is because I like the angle that the Spinnerbait molds have. The Do-IT buzzbait molds seem to be strait. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  7. Once I have finished the initial powder painting my jig heads, how long can I wait before baking them? I usually do this imediately but would save alot of time if I could bake them about 2 hours later. Thanks!
  8. What is the best way to remove the plastic weed guards from jigs before powder painting them? I have tried heating them up but they get hot very quickly and flair out. I want to remove them with out damage so I can put them back in after the finish is backed. Thanks!
  9. I have never used a trailer hook and wanted to see if I can tell a difference. What size hook shold I use? Should it be the same size as the main hook?
  10. Any opinions or tips regarding this technique?
  11. Just wanted to say thanks for the advice you gave me awhile back on Tacklemaking.com. My first experience with one of my custom Buzzbaits put me in the top 10 on Eufaula. My Chart/White bait outfished my partner's bait 3 to 1! I have gotten bit by the bait makin bug. I am attempting Spinnerbaits and Jigs now. Markell
