  3. I use hook bonnets. BPS has them on sale. it's a bunch of em (different sizes ) for $7.99. not the prettiest things but they sure save u from hooking yourself and other things.
  4. thanks vodkaman for your sound and honest opinion.
  5. Hey fellow TU members! I'm asking for ur honest opinion on the following: I'm thinking of donating a custom made lure for our family picnic in order to help raise money . Now, I was thinking that I would donate the lure which has proven to be a fish catcher and I have pictures to prove this. The lure has some teeth marks and hook marks because of use but in no way is the top coat compromised or the paint chippin' off. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2/u63405/HPIM0611.jpg http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2/u63405/HPIM0606.jpg NOw my questions to you is this, do you think that donating a used lure would seem uncouth?
  6. thanks guys for the excellent responses and the sound advice. as for etex lite, I've tried it but have used d2t much more and am comfortable with it and the way it holds up. i just wanted to fine tune my application of the product.
  7. Muskiefool - I kinda know what you mean with the devcon setting up before you completely cover the lure. I don't make muskie lures but I have been making lures that are over 4". I'm using the 30 min. devcon but after mixing for a few minutes and applying to the lure it starts to set within about 5 minutes! how much denatured alcohol, iso alcohol, etc. is recommended to mix a batch of devcon for a 4" lure?

    now, that's AWESOME!!
  9. also I wanted to mention that if you want to take some of the guess work outta mixing paints, then invest in a color wheel! inexpensive and saves time in coming up with the right color mix.
  10. bm2, checkout this site http://www.taxidermy.com/ under polytranpar airbrush paints. they've got this med. bass green that's killer. sprays on nice and when added with some black gives a real nice top stripe.
  11. finally finished the paint job. check it out in the hardbaits gallery section under the name "Conyo-Shad". Hope u like it: )

  14. Hey everyone out there in TU Land! I've got a question about the damage caused by hooks to the topcoat. Is this a usual occurence? I use devcon 2ton as my top coat and have had great results but after using the lures repeatedly there are hook marks on the sides of the belly and back where the hooks come in contact with the lure. You can actually feel and see the markings. Is it the hook placement? The topcoat itself? or Am I doing something wrong?
