  1. Personally, I like for my plastics to slide up the line when I set the hook so there is nothing balled up in the mouth that can stop the hook penetration.
  2. I'm making some baits for a friend who wants a plastic MO Craw. I've seen so many variations with browns, pinks, even chartreuse I can't decide where to start. Anyone got a plastic they call MO Craw? If so how about a pic.
  3. The coated cable isn't likely to fray. I've been using it for several years and never had any fray on me.
  4. You can buy silicone cups from Bed Bath and Beyond but don't. I did and they were not suitable for hot plastic. I returned them got the ones like Mark showes.
  5. Derek I have some 00M00 30 casting silicone (made by Smooth-On) for making a new Arig mold. I haven't used it yet but my grand son used it to cast an adapter so his tazer would attach to his glock. It worked great. Checking the specs it is only good to 500°F. However, they make lots of stuff and may have something that will work for you. They have a toll free number and advertise that you can call anytime with questions. 1-800-762-0744 If you want to make some cheap practice molds before you plunge into costly material, shoot me a pm.
  6. A fluid bed causes the powder to float in the air that is pumped into it via an aquarium pump. That means when you swish your jig head through the paint, it goes on easier and thinner. It also means that you don't have to keep stirring it to keep it from packing like you do a jar. I don't use the jars any longer. I made mine with components from Lowe's and Wal Mart. The total cost was under $40.
  7. I but quite a bit of stuff from Bear's.
  8. I don't have the patience or skill for the file so I tape the wire where I want it and close the mold in my bench vise. It may take a couple of different sizes of wire and a few squeezes but it is the way I do it.
  9. I don't know how you do your cutter. We had one similar and put it in a vise, held the tube over it and rolled a dowel rod across it to cutit.
  10. That looks good. If you want to stop the nipple on it then dip it in cold water before it can drain down.
  11. Do any of you guys use them? If so how has your service been? The reason I'm asking is last year I ordered 100 worm hooks in 4 sizes and they came one or two at a time. It took several weeks to get all of them. I thought it was a fluke so I ordered again as I don't need 1000s of worm hooks from Shorty's for my swing jigs. Today I got one size and was told the rest were on back order and would be shipped when they came in.
  12. When I was a kid we caught them for smallmouth bait and they were all black.
  13. Why not just go to www.fishingskirts.com and look a what they have to offer. There is no set way to do them.
  14. I was given 70# of it several years ago. I use it on occasion. It's a bit lighter and a lot harder then plumber's lead but it works just fine.
  15. I just made a bed for a friend. I used brown grocery bags and coffee filters. She said she couldn't control the volcanoes. I got it from her and tried it at home. I can control the volcanoes but the valve can only be opened about 1/2". Any more than that and you have a mess.
  16. I liked your pic so I hunted around and found a magnet. It holds like a charm. Those pesky swing jigs have been a problem to paint. Now I believe it will be a lot easier. Thanks for the tip.
  17. I've been pouring lead for a lot of years. I wear some kind of eye protection and pour in the garage. I quit pouring in shorts after some lead splashed on my leg. All I could do was sit and watch it cool. I get quite a bit of lead on jeans when my pot is dripping and I'm too lazy to stop it but that is no concern as it doesn't burn my skin.
  18. I've used lots of X-ray lead to make jigs. Where I fish the jig is lost long before any soft lead would come into play on the paint job.
  19. Well what ever it is, I'm looking forward to getting it and seeing how it looks as a biffle bug. Thanks again Bill.
  20. Bf the point here is I don't have any watermelon but Monte SS is taking care of that.
  21. I only use the ladel for large pours. The lead pot is a lot easier for me. When mine drips I tap the plunger with a pair of pliers or a small hammer and it stops dripping for a while. When it starts again I tap it again.
  22. Is one of the colors that I don't have and haven't used much when I buy baits. However, it was a good color for me in "store bought" baits this fall. I really don't need to buy any supplies now and hate to buy one bottle of colorant and pay more for the shipping than the colorant. So is there a formula for watermelon that I can use to make up some baits? Thanks in advance.
  23. I clean my pot like Ted stated. I add a couple of steps to it. I take a very small drill bit and gently clean out the spout hole with it. I also polish the bowl with a circular wire brush on my drill. I take my compressor and blow everything out.
