    Sorry to take so long to reply but I couldn't get any pics to post. I finally got this by clicking the BB code box on this site. These are some of the color combinations that I carry and use in the round head. I carry 4-6 sizes in most all of them. Every color combination in this box has produced fish. Some better than others. I almost always add chenille to my jigs as I think it dresses them up a bit.
  3. Getting started the most cost effective route would be to purchase some pre poured jig heads from someone like Cadman. You don't just have the lead pot as cost you have lead, molds, hooks, weedguard just to name some of the stuff.

  5. What we did was bolt carpet knife blades together. We held them in a vice, put the tube on top and rolled a dowel across the tail. It was crude but it worked. I'm sure that you can find info on some cutters if you do a search on this site. I have heard mention of them at some companies but don't remember which ones.
  6. So where are you looking for them? I ordered from Cpt. Hooks since I didn't want 1000 of each size hook. I ordered 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 4/0, 5/0. The 5/0 came the 1/0 is no longer made. The 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0 are backordered an may not get here till March.

    That's all well and good for you but even after Cadman called and offered advice, I can't get anything to work on this site. It works on others. I figure it must be a setting that has gotten changed but that is only a guess.

  11. That should work. I have used fiberglass rods and bolts with the threads covered. Post some pics when you get some finished baits.

    I don't make so many now days as I used to. I never worried about what any jig might look like. I don't think a fish with a pea sized brain can think about anything like that so I just experimented. Most every color combination that I made caught fish, some better than others.

  15. From the link I assume you are pouring directly from the melter. Follow smaljaw's advice for pre pouring. When you pour be sure to pour all the way up and fill the spru and see how that works.

    Thanks guys. I"ll dig out my Dremel and see what I can do. I'll also check for the burr. I have been dinking around with various sizes and shapes of hooks that I have on hand. The mold is taking any worm hook that I put in it. I had to put a hook shelf down to get it to do that.

    I've been using my mold with some hooks on hand. In order to keep them in place I had to make a platform to hold the hooks which hung over the mold. It doesn't seem to matter which worm hook or what size I use, they pour. I am, however, having 2 issues: 1. After they are poured it is a bear to get them out of the mold. I'm thinking about spraying them with drop out, good idea or not? 2. I can't use my gate shears to cut off the spru because then get into the wire form, any help there?

    Thanks for the pic Ted. After trying them both ways that was the one I had chosen but I have been wrong six or several times in the past.

    After looking at my clips and reading Cadman's dilemma last year I have no idea how the clips go. Does the hook go on the loop with the bend at the end or the one that has a straight shaft?

    Thanks guys. I don't even own 5/0 hooks. I was wondering about the 2/0 for some of the baits like 5" sticks. The mold came today so I guess I'll get out some hooks and make up a few and see how I like what I get. I want to be sure as Shorty's only seems to sell by the 1000 ct and I for sure wouldn't want 1000 unusable worm hooks laying around.

    I have the mold coming in the smaller sizes 1/8 to 7/16. For those of you who have this what size hooks seem to work best. I'm going to have to place an order and would like a little guidance before hand. I'll probably be using 3 1/2" tubes, 5" sticks, and 4-6" craws mostly.
  25. We used to do that and our stuff was in bundles and 3' long. I don't remember where we got it. I sold mine in a garage sale after I could buy them already cut.
