  1. I've never been able to get 2 colors to stick together very well after the first one has cooled enough to demold. If you hold your cup higher away from your mold you can pour a very small stream into the center of the hole and not get it on the sides of the cavity. It takes a little practice but you can learn to do it. Then if you don't want a core shot you'll have to wait for the tail to set up a bit then pour the second color.
  2. I've tried them a time or two but like the bands better for jigs. I can make them up in advance for jigs and carry extras with me when I am on an extended trip. I wire tie my spinnerbaits as they take a beatin'.
  3. I don't shake mine. I have an L shaped coat hanger that I put in a drill. I put it right on the bottom of the plastisol so it gets into the stuff that has settled out. A few minutes stirring equals a long time shaking.
  4. I use the same as smalljaw and don't need much so I get it in the fly shop at Bass Pro.
  5. I got mine from Bear's Baits.
  6. Look in the soft plastics cook book here for the june bug. What type of mold are you wanting and what material are you wanting it made from?
  7. I like flat waxed thread because it is very strong. I also have a large whip finisher to work on the big jigs.
  8. It might be worth a try. I either use my toaster oven or heat gun. I don't think my wife would let me use her electric skillet.
  9. Good luck with that. A friend of mine is a crappie fisherman and has made lots of variations of A rigs trying to catch crappie on them. So far he has not even caught his first one. You don't need light wire to catch whites. We fish for them in March and use the regular wires. We catch whites, blacks and walleye but not a single crappie.
  10. First, welcome to the site. I'm sure that there are books. There are utube videos and there is a sticky about don'ts for newbies on this site. Check some sites like Jann's Netcraft, Lurecraft, Bear's Baits, and Barlow's for starter kits. No it isn't cheaper. My first tube cost me $300.00 counting the molds, plastisol, glitter, colorants, gloves, and shipping. Of course the cost comes down as I make more but may never reach the level of store bought but I can have any color or combination that I want.
  11. I only do open pour. I do it with a divided pyrex cup. You should be able to find extensive info by doing a search here.

    Fish Dope

Not familiar with that. What I use if petroleum jelly with my scent mixed in then spread it on the jig.
  13. I don't have the twinjector I have 2 individuals with a blending block. I quit using pyrex and went to norpor silicone cups. I heat them at the same time. When I put my injectors into the block I can feel which one is flowing better and put more pressure on the other one to balance out the shoot. It works for me.
  14. I used to get some pretty good tails from Stamina inc.
  15. I'd like to know if you have any problems with fish hitting that blade under the grub. Please report back after some outings.
  16. Ted I checked mine and only have BAN-4-AY and JYS-1058Y. Sorry
  17. I used medium when I did that formula. I'm pretty sure it was Calhoun's. I also used my wife's coffee grinder to make the Kosher salt into a powder.
  18. A release spray might help. I had some cavities on one of my poison tail molds. Even cracking it only got partial success. Cadman put me on Frankfort Arsenal drop out mold release spray and it cured my problem.
  19. I use the Teflon now since I bought some from Cadman. I like to leave mine in to bake. They get paint on them but just a small bend and it pops right off.
  20. I got my Teflon pins from Cadman. I also have the metal ones but they are a real pain to use.
  21. I tie from 1/32 to 1/2 oz. I use mostly round heads but for the larger ones I have to go to the bullet because I don't have a 3/8 or 1/2 cavity in any of my round head molds. I don't see any difference in the functionality of the two types. I sometimes flatten the round to an aspirin shape for a little faster fall.
  22. I agree with smalljaw. His idea is similar to what I do when taking line off reels. It should work great for you.

    First Tie

Lately I've been using green enamel fluro wire from Hobby Lobby. It is 24 ga. I do one wrap only snug then check the skirt. I spread it where needed then tighten that wrap do 2 more, pull with pliers to tighten, twist, and cut off tags.
  24. Maybe it is time to call the mfg and let them know about your problem and see what they say.
