  1. That is probably going to be the case any place. I got my last bottle at Bear's Baits.
  2. Most of the companies that offer your other plastic pouring products have a stabilizer. Like stated, smaller batches will lessen the number of reheats. Also, shorter bursts with stirring will help. I don't do more than 20-30 second reheats then stir until it is ready to pour. Mostly I work with 2-4 oz of plastisol at a time.
  3. X2 Get some stabilizer. It will make all the difference in the world.
  4. Lots of machine shops can do the job. You can get a blank from Do It. But hang on to your wallet. The last idea I had the shop wanted $450 to do the work. So I passed.
  5. I also have the Lee pot. I only have one and it is so old that I wore out the inside and had to order another one. It has been going since shep was a pup and I expect another 10-15 years out of it.
  6. You might get some ideas from this link. http://www.hitchseries.com/ (the trailer hitch) could easily be made with some galvanized wire from Lowe's and your round pliers. I don't use trailer keepers but do make my own holders for trigged plastics. It costs a fraction of a penny each.
  7. You might want to check into wire bait keepers. They wouldn't be hard to fashion and might simplify what you are wanting to accomplish here.
  8. I had a similar experience with bondo. Now I spray my pans with pam. It is quicker and easier than vasoline for me.
  9. I have a piece of formica on my workbench. I lay my stingers out on it or put them in a pan of cold water.
  10. X2 The last time I looked into a custom mold it was $450. That ran me off in a heartbeat as I don't make jigs for sale.
  11. I hear you on the base pins Rodney. They are a bit of a pain but I have several dozen and no more than I pour these days I will prolly stick with them.
  12. If you want them to come out easier, look into a good release agent. Cadman put me onto this and it has cured one of my problem molds.
  13. All of my stuff is in an unheated garage. I have never noticed any change in the colors due to weather and some of the seldom used colors have been there for years.
  14. Thanks for the idea. I had not even thought of something like that.
  15. I got mine at Zeiners in Wichita KS.
  16. I have never used a wire bait keeper but have modified some of my molds to accept weedguard by simply putting a piece of wire where I want the weedguard and taping it in place. Then I put the mold in a big old vice and clamp it down tight. The steel wire makes a slot in the mold for me. I have also done it with my dremel but the other way is faster, easier and looks much better.
  17. A few years ago when living rubber was flat, one of my buds and I had 10 one pound spools of it go bad. There was no way we could find to seperate the strands and the company was out of business and we couldn't send it back. Well with the advent of round living rubber I have not had this problem until today. With the water cooling I decided to dig out living rubber and make some jigs and put the silicone away. I found one of my colors was starting to clump and not pop off in strands for me no matter how much I stretched it. I had to pull individual strands apart on some of the jigs. If any of you have had this problem and have a cure, I'd really appreciate the info being passed on. Once again thanks.
  18. Ted my pouring is the opposite of yours. My bads occur in winter when the garage and molds are cold. My worst mold is a poison tail. It is the one that I have polished and cracked. I bought the mold release and plan to use it this week as I'll be house bound for a few days with the weather and all my farm chores done for a while.
  19. Yes you may. I have lead from shower stalls from home remodels, lead from xray rooms from hospital remodels, lead radioactive medicine containers, printers lead and several pounds of wheel weights. I also have one block of lead which weighs about 100# that a guy gave me and did not tell me where it came from. I mostly use the softer ones but some fishing necessitates hard lead.
  20. Not all molds are created equal. Some of mine never fail and others have some cavities that give me fits until they are good and hot. The weather also has an effect on me as I pour in an unheated garage. One of my molds has been a real pain. I have polished the cavities and cracked the mold and still have trouble some times. So I took Cadman's advice and bought some mold release. I haven't used it yet but this week is supposed to be rainy and cold so I plan to get the molds and can out and treat what needs it.
  21. I use 3 materials for filters: paper sacks, coffee filters, vacuum cleaner filters. Some of them work better than others on different colors. Experiment with filters and see if that helps.
  22. Harbor Freight Tools Sales has some colors and it is really cheap.
  23. You might pm cadman. I bought some from him a while back for a really good price.
  24. You will do a lot less bleeding if the hook point is down.
