  1. Before you go to filing the mold, try using your gate cutters and putting notches in the lead shank that is on the hook. I have a mold that has that same shank and I do it all the time to hold plastics. I usually have about 5 notches and they hold as good as a barb and don't distort the bait as much as a barb.
  2. I only swim those that I make and I have sold off my molds except poison tail and banana. Both of them swim quite well.
  3. I use a paper towel and ketchup.
  4. I don't know the reel but I do know a good reel tech in your state. He has a web site and is the Reel Mechanic. I have had John do work for me and he is fast, efficient, and does good reasonable work.
  5. There are lots of companies that sell prepainted jig heads and I'm betting a bunch of jig makers on this site will sell them to you. I could have last year but I sold my FB mold because I don't use them any longer. How many and what weights are you wanting?
  6. You might get more takers if you swapped baits instead of molds. You could keep right on pouring and not have to deal with the possibility of lost or damaged molds. Just a thought.
  7. That is a physics problem related to British Thermal Units converted into calories and how many calories it will take to raise a specific amount of lead 1°C. What ever the lead temp is it will take the same amount of calories to raise it 1°C. So I'd say it is dependent on your lead pot and how the thermostat is working depending on the temp of the pot when plugged in.
  8. Ask Cadman and he'll probably email you his tutorial on fluid bed building.
  9. If I am not mistaken a video was on this web site a few weeks ago. Try some searches here and see if you can find it. It looked pretty cool to me.
  10. My screen is set to 100% and since the upgrade to the site I can not see all of the posts without dropping to 75% and my old eyes are struggling. If there is something I need to change please tell me.
  11. Unless you want to get into really big numbers consider a 2 1/2 gallon jug. Also you can remelt all the old stuff and make browns and blacks. Just be sure to buy some heat stabilizer to keep it from scorching and do 30 bursts.
  12. PM Cadman on this site. See what he has left. They were really priced right. I bought some and am very happy with it.
  13. I position my adapter in the mold. I fill, evacuate, and refill one injector. I leave it in the cup and do the same to the other one. Then I pull them out and put them together and move them to the adapter. Stick them in and inject. I leave a messy trail to the mold but haven't been able to stop the dripping. As Frank shows in his video room temps will allow them to work. My garage is where i work and is unheated so stuff is in the 50s. I have an old hot plate that I put a griddle on and (warm up the molds and injectors). I use an infrared thermometer and monitor the items. I try to keep them between 75 and 100°. If one gets a bit hot I pull it off because I like to get several injections before the molds get too hot to open and handle with bare hands.
  14. I have only done it with tubes. I bought the extra tips and the adapter that goes along with them.
  15. Observation: I have some of Bear's injection tube molds. After a few shoots it is hard to get the bait off the mandrel. So I have started dipping the tip in cooking oil. What a difference it makes and lasts for at least 3 shoots. Question 1: For those of you who have this mold 3 1/2" Bear's injection tube mold; what is your ratio of tubes per oz of plastisol? Question 2: I bought a Jacob's stinger mold and am getting voids towards the back of the body. I haven't figured out how to avoid this. (hotter plastic, slower injection, What)
  16. You could use something else in a pyrex cup like water or cooking oil. That way you could pour and repour until you got the process down without going through a bunch of plastic.
  17. They will after a few dozen uses. That is why I buy them a dozen at a time from the vet.
  18. I sometimes use my homemade injectors as I can hold them where I want and dribble plastic out into small places at any speed I choose. I can retract the plunger and stop drips. I have to work quickly before the plastic begins to set up but I am not into production and can go for reheats after small batches.
  19. I haven't even heard of them. Since you have joined here; you can post up what you want and see what kind of deal you can get from some members who sell baits. I'm betting you can and get a good deal as well.
  20. Remodles of homes and hospitals have gotten me over 100 #. Radio active medicine containers another 100. An old print shop 75#. Recycle place 25#. Tire shops all that I could carry off.
  21. Brown paper sacks coffee filters and vac filters are all I have tried.
  22. I have been using Calhouns medium this year and it works for me. I bought mine from Bear's. It was the best price I could find.
