  1. Steve here is a link to the whip finisher. There are more than one size. For bass jigs I use the largest one I could buy. http://www.midcurrent.com/articles/flies/talleur_whipme.aspx
  2. I always use a regular vice for bass jigs when I wire them. Here are some pics of wire tying jigs.
  3. It would help a lot to know what material you are using for skirts and how you are attaching them to the jig.
  4. Eat a cup of yogurt and put the pins in it. I have some with paint on them and they don't want to fish in my molds easily.
  5. The wire that allows one filament of FG30 is .035 my spinnerbait wire is .040. I cut a small piece of spinnerbait wire and used scotch tape to hold it where I wanted the weedguard. I clamped the mold down solid in a vice so that the wire would indent the mold. I did this for all 4 cavities. Now I can put 1/2" pieces of .035 wire in the slots and pour away. Thanks to fred. I don't know if pics will show up but I'll try.
  6. fred I do this all the time with my bigger jigs (base pins). I can't understand why it didn't occur to me in the first place. Thanks man.
  7. Yesterday I fished with a crappie guru. I took several hundred baits and a bunch of heads. I caught 3 fish on my stuff while he caught lots. I finally begged some heads and baits. We wound up with over 150 crappie. I have modified my mold to take the small hook #4 and weedguard (one fiber from an FG30. There is no way I can heat it up and powder paint it (he does). I have spent all morining using finger nail polish on the heads (3 coats). Any of you old boys got a solution. Don't even think about pouring and drilling that small of a hole.
  8. I have done it. I don't like it and that is why I bought Bear's molds. Bojon is the dipping guru on here.
  9. I have had success putting duct tape over the weedguard area on both sides of the mold. I lay the wire on it and pour. I get no flash and the duct tape never even looks like it is going to melt. It's a 2 minute install and a 10 second uninstall.
  10. Like smalljaw suggested 90# braided stainless vinyl coated leader. I use it all the time for weedguard. I never use it doubled though. I get it from BPS in 30' lenghts for $4.99 each. The ship it in from one of their stores that has salt water stuff and I pick it up with no shipping fees. I just got 2 spools this week.
  11. I have two of Bear's molds they really are nice. I wish I had more.
  12. If you are still having trouble after following Cadman's advice, light a candle and hold the mold over it so it gets all smoky. I don't like to do that, but I have 2 molds that won't work well any other way.
  13. Some lead sources for me have been: metal recycling centers radioactive medicine containers from hospitals show stall floors from home remodlers
  14. I bought 2 of them and 2 injectors. They work great but I'll be years in coming out even with the total cost.
  15. Yes but why is that a concern?
  16. If you try to pull them apart you will get one bait made every 37 days. I cut my rubber to the length I want + 1/2 inch. I normally use 1 tab of the base color and 1/2 tabs of what ever else I want. I put them on the jighead and wire them in place. Then I pull them out and cut off 1/4" of each section.
  17. I've had one of those type molds for 30 years. I have had to replace the pins a few times. I just use SS wire that will fit in the holes.
  18. Yep I have the 3 stage pliers from Barlows. I can make anything I want with stainless or galvanized wire. I make jig screw locks and even tube screwlocks.
  19. Most everything else was covered. For me a good set of gate cutters is an absolute for good jig heads with minimal touch up before painting.
  20. I heat my injectors and molds on a $9.95 Wally World hot plate.
  21. I dip, turn upside down and tap out the paint. After curing I touch up with a 1/8" drill bit.
  22. As always cadman is the master.
  23. Yep they never fully mix and that gives one some really great combos sometimes without doing 3 or 4 color paints but sometimes it is just crappy.
  24. I have been using the HF cheap powder for several months. It works just fine. I stock basic colors and mix them to get what I want.
