  1. I have about 50# of printers lead. I have found it to be quite a bit harder than plumbers lead and it requires more heat to melt and pour well. It is pretty good stuff just a bit harder to use.
  2. I don't know why it wouldn't work just fine. I have used a piece of angle iron with the ends bent for years.
  3. I also am in the process of experimentation. My mold is on loan right now but when it comes home I am going to heat some hooks and make them fit in the mold. I want an EWG that I can't find except for Gammy and I am not going to buy them since I NEVER go after a hung up jig.
  4. I just came by some Mustad hooks. There are at least 2000 of them and maybe as many as 2500. They are 91768BLN 4/0 and 3/0 91764BR 32798BLN I haven't used any of these before. Are they all quality hooks for jigs and tube inserts?

  6. I have an banana mold. It is ok but I don't use it very much anymore.
  7. I use 4" of round rubber per jig so that would be 86X3=258 jigs per pound. I don't know anything about the fine.
  8. A friend of mine gave me a 4X8 sheet of lead that had been in a hospital Xray room. It had dry wall glued to it. I got the dry wall off but the glue wouldn't budge with anything I tried. I am still using it. I cut it into strips and put them in a cast iron pot and melt them on my fish cooker outdoors so all the fumes will float away. When all the gunk has burned off I use an old spoon to dip the stuff off the top and clean the lead. Then I ladle the lead out and make it into ingots for use in my lead pot.

Try small cable ties. The work very well.
  10. I just switched from hot plate to microwave. I have a couple of threads here where I ask some questions and got some good advice. You might read them.
  11. I'd really like to know about your teflon and where you get it.
  12. I assume you are talking about putting them in the oven of your wife's stove. When you fire up an oven it gets really hot to begin with. Wait till it reaches the desire temp before you put the jigs in.
  13. If you have any hospital connections, they get radioactive meds in lead containers and have to pay to have them hauled off. I got about 100 # that way.
  14. I went to your photobucket album to get a better look. They look solid. How do you cut the strands? Also what do you mean by super slab inserts? I am working on a crappie/walleye bait for this winter and am interested in what yours will look like.

  16. I never even considered Real Magic. Thanks for the tip. We had 20# of it go bad but were able to swap it back for the round rubber.
  17. We had a bunch and it all went bad. You could not get it to seperate.
  18. Pardon my ignorance but what is M-F ?
  19. Thanks a lot for the info. guys.
  20. Thanks guys. I give these tips a whirl.
  21. Today: 1. I was trying some clear with only flake (no dye). The first batch was perfect. I reheated the mix by 30 sec. intervals using a wooden paint stirrer. I left it in the plastisol. I got a scorch. I couldn't tell if it was the plastic or the wood that was actually causing the problem. 2. I also tried to melt down some old baits and add hardner. One batch I melted the plastic and added the hardner. The hardner made a ball in the middle of the cup and when in 30 second intervals I melted it out I had scorched spots. I tried putting hardner in a cup and then adding unmelted plastic. As I melted it it became lumpy and scorched worse then the other way. Is there a way to add hardner to old plastics?
  22. No I am not using salt in this bait. This is a winter bait and several are rigged in advance for those cold windy days and I don't want rusty hooks.
  23. I have been doing smaller quantities and starting with 1 minute then 30 seconds stir 30 seconds stir etc. to about 3 minutes.
  24. I have been using hot plates for many years but decided to try micro wave melting. I really like the convenience and speed of it, BUT I am getting air bubbles. Am I cooking too long or what?
