  1. Sorry Del I reread your post and understand what you meant
  2. Ok unless im confused and usually am Del, ABEC (Annular Bearing Engineering Committee) is not a brand but a rating system designed by manufactuers to rate the tolerances of bearings 1-7 with 7 being the tightest tolerances, what Im getting at is any bearing manufactuer can produce a abec 1-7 assuming he is within tolerance,Im just trying to understand what you meant by their not real abec's ? Also has anybody tried the ceramic bearings ?
  3. Found an interesting article on baitcaster tuning aimed at Curados, check it out if interested. http://super-tuning.home.mindspring.com/index%20page.html

    Foam Topwater

Coley those are awesome, ya'll have really got me interested in the foam im ordering some today ! What's the bouyancy like compared to balsa as far as weighting a diving bait ? Any ideas ? thanks
  5. I just finished a course on metallurgy and our instructor worked for a plastic injection company, we got to tour his plant they made parts for Toyota,Ford and Gm, alot of their molds were alum. Strength of the aluminum depends on what alloys are added, anyway we were told that most alum. molds are used for short term runs, prototypes etc..because of cost and ease of machining. We never heard how many parts they were good for tho.
  6. I've noticed some baits namely the "wec tapp" and the deep divers from "thundershad","flatshad" and a few others dont insert their weights fully into the bait, some increase the dia. of the weight outside the body. This is probably a no-brainer..I've built a few tapp style baits and had no problem getting them to balance fully inserting the weight into the body so is their some benefit to moving the weight so low ? thanks.
  7. Found a place on the net today that had bone colored suspending rogues (unpainted) for 1.98 w/ red hooks the site was lurenet.com has anybody bought from this site before ? Thanks Vmaxx
  8. Dover is centered on the Cumberland river(Lake Barkley) and is about 20 mins from Paris Tenn.(centered on the Tenn. river or Ky lake) Vmaxx
  9. CJ, Clarksville is about 30 mins. from the Southern end of Barkley if your coming in June you hit the ledge fishing just right in the summer they generate current which is the key to the ledges just like everyone said June is crankin month but carolina riggin works as well also and we do still catch fish strokin a jig(rippin it off the bottom) the Tenn portion of Barkley is more river like while the Ky section is more resevoir like either way it's a fantastic lake, as long as the current is on there is a flippin bite all summer around the islands on the main lake, the southern end is full of buck brush. 10. Im thinking of trying to build a flippin rod similar to the new ones castaway is making I first saw this design about two years ago in a flw outdoors mag. , anyway my problem is I want to use a loomis blank and I want the rod to be 8' in length but the only blanks I've seen are steelhead blanks that are 8' 6" is it possible to cut a blank down ? I realize the action will change but for this rod stiffer is better, Am I going the wrong way here ? thanks for your input Vmaxx
  11. Strato's I have never used super glue on foil but have you tried the 3m brand spray adhesive, works pretty good on foil, have you got any pics of your scales would like to see them ! Vmaxx

    Airbrush

Bassman instead of typing out a long response I can give you about an hours worth of reading that will help you more than I can hit the search at the top of the page and use the word "paasche" I checked it and it will give you about 35 hit's, hope this help's Vmaxx
  13. Soupy, Both are basiclly the same(internal mix, dual action)the vls t-pro (the only vls I saw for sale on dixie) had the threaded mount for the bottle where the vl does not. The vlst also had the cut away handle which is nice but the same thing can be done on a vl by removing the handle(learn to paint without it) I compared them on www.dixieart.com,most on this board are using Vl's or millenium's,anyway you go both will do you a fine job but I would think the threaded bottles cost a little more? I use mostly the color cups . I'll get blasted for this one but I shoot createx over Devcon(scuff your devcon). Also on your plastics I would say no to the first coat being devcon(or anything) you might get away with it but your adding alot more weight by doing this. Vmaxx
  14. If your talking about the scale pattern in the foil he lays some netting down then lays the foil on top and lightly rubs across it to imprint the netting, then cut to fit,use spray adhesive and apply Vmaxx
  15. Cody I ran into the same problem thats why I went to the vise I can spin the bait, angle it up and down, and it clamps to the table, they run from 10.00-to well over 100.00 depending how fancy you want to get.Checked my barlows catalog(www.barlowstackle.com) and the cheapest vise they had was 7.95(#720137) but I would look into Cabelas also I think the last one I bought was 19.95 Vmaxx
  16. The fly tying vise's really do work well, not all that expensive if you get a cheaper model a pair of vise grips are goin to set you back 10.00 and the cheaper fly tying vise's are around ten + shipping Vmaxx
  17. Tom, Cliff is right most people shoot with the # 3,the smaller the # the finer the spray #5 will shoot a thicker paint, all are marked with rings on top of the needles Vmaxx
  18. Im using mojo weights you just have to drill the hole a bit bigger to get the wire thru the 1/4 oz fits a .25 hole perfect, however Im not familiar with pencil lead riverman though Im interested where would you buy something like that ? Sounds like a mojo weight minus the hole. Vmaxx
  19. B D, just a guess since im not a expert but sounds like you need to increase your air press. may not be right but worth a try. Vmaxx
  20. B and D, a couple of questions are you spraying on a slick surface(devcon etc...), whats your air press. ? Is it cold where your spraying ? Vmaxx
  21. RJP Im the same as everybody else I put them on the wheel before I go to bed and take them off when I get up, but the 30 min devcon is usually dry in 2 hours and the cyrstal sheen seems to take 6-8 hours. Vmaxx
  22. Draper11, Thanks for the post and welcome to the site, sounds like you have alot of experience in a wide variety of things.Look forward to hearing from you again Vmaxx

    Crankbait book

Riverman, I guy I took on a fishing trip got it for me I had never heard of it so I don't know where he got it but they list a web address on the back of the book www.precisiontrolling.com ,phone # 1-800-353-6958, yeah Nathan I believe if they gathered there info the way the book describes it would be very accurate it's a very interesting book if your into crankbaits some of the depths are really suprising, after reading this Im heading outside to check my "real world casting distance" Vmaxx
  24. Anybody else ever seen the book called "precision casting" ? It gives the dive curve for production crankbaits with 6 different lb test,3 different length of cast, number of feet bait stays at max.depth and when max. depth is hit and about 80 different popular crankbaits.Don't know how accurate it is but it looks like they researched it very well. Vmaxx
  25. B.C. (check your pm's) To keep the paint on your either gonna have to let it dry until all the moisture is out or heat it somehow, the heat gun will work,If I get in a hurry(when I do I get some real crappy lookin bait) I can paint one start to finish all at once by heating each coat(base,color,back,belly,etc..) once I've heated it I've never scratched the paint off(barring just out right trying to scratch it) I also use a heat lamp but it is a little slower, when using the heat gun keep it moving don't hold in one spot and a little goes a long way,Don't toast it !
