All of the hard woods will give off a louder sound than a soft wood. I find cedar has a much louder sound than balsa and poplar is louder than the cedar. The joints banging together will be much louder than a installed rattle.
Ron, I feel your pain. My piece of crap Delta is sure making some odd noises now. I've never been able to cut a straight lip slot and I don't think it would matter if I used a bandsaw or dremel tool. I can't cut a straight line.
I think you will run into problems shooting pearls and metallic colors, but everything else should work just fine. I have some problems with the pearls in my eclipse. The taxidermy paints work better for me, you might want to try wildlife colors.
Paint both sections before you put the bait together or make a jig to hold the bait taught while painting. I've used a coat hanger bent in a shape of a big U.
I have the Iwata eclipse in both gravity and syphon feed. I love both but the gravity feed is the winner hands down for ease of use and cleaning. It has a slightly smaller tip at .035 and the syphon feed is .05mm. You can't go wrong with the Iwata brand. but the badger users are going to tell you the same thing. Both brands make quality equip.
Ron, the jointed bait is not hard just make sure the hangers are centered and I like double hangers better than a single. Holds the tail in position to swim.
thanks fellas, I haven't tested to depth yet on any of those but I have test the action and all the baits run true with a real nice wobble. I have a deep water specialist that will be testing these on Lake of the Ozarks in about 2 weeks.
