Did the areas appear like pinholes?
  2. I am interested in hearing more about SW replacement for lacquer. Is it thinned with lacquer thinner?
  3. Auto Air might not like a componet of the DN. Lacquer clear is iffy over Auto Air. But a urethane shouldn't present any problems.
  4. I have several reels I can bring a few Mitchell 300's and a few Ambassadeur 5000's, possibly a few rods. It is older equipment but will work fine. Largemouth bass will be the main objective with the occasional crappie for the plate. Most of the fish caught at the last outing were of 1-2 lb. range.
  5. Great news, Coley! Fine fish it is and my belly is growling already.
  6. DSV the closer to 0 degrees will give more shading not a higher angle. There are several things you can do with enamel over a base. You can take and spray enamel over a lacquer base then take a natural sponge with fast drying reducer and imprint patterns into the enamel or take a woodgrain tool while the enamel is still wet and produce woodgrain. Then take translucent toner and spray over the woodgrain to produce a natural wood effect. Or take cellophane and lay it on the wet enamel and quickly pull it off for a cellophane wrap effect.
  7. I don't think lacquer will work it dries to quick, but you never know until you try it.
  8. Mist water on the dried base coat, mist contrasting color(slow drying paint; enamel spraycan works good) over it let it dry off completely without being distubed and clear it. The effect can be further enhanced by shooting the contrasting color at an angle to shade the droplets. Smitty might have done it a little different but the final results will be very close to the same. Oh yes! Nice looking plug smitty!
  9. Cheese, Lung powered airbrushes have been around for a while. Here is a video for the budget minded lure builder in need of an inexpensive solution. Airbrush - Instructables - DIY, How To, craft, tech
  10. Read about the bonus march of the 30's were the WWI vets wanted their bonus pay. Would have shot them in their tracks, but, damn the bad luck they brought their Springfield rifles with them.
  11. Yes, it will hold up good indoors. But no matter how you slice it and dice it Dean, it is not as good as what is on the market now, nor is it as good as the acrylic lacquer that replaced it.
  12. In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were ro unded up and exterminated ------------------------------ Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----- ------------------------- Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ------------------------------ Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated. ----------------------------- Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million. ------------------------------ It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in: List of 7 items: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent Australia-wide, armed robberi es are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns! While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDER LY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it. You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late! The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson. With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'. During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans w ere ARMED!
  13. What make of guitar is it? Painting a guitar with an airbrush would be like painting an airplane hangar with a toothbrush. Get a cheap detail gun!
  14. Pete, If they could achieve the same checking with crackle finish I imagine they would give it a go.
  15. Fender came out with a line of guitars here several years ago made to look like an old worn guitar. I think that was the impetus behind using nitro again. It may have some flex initially however, you can sprayed it on a guitar and rapidly cool and heat repeatedly, it will crack and look old.
  16. If you put nitrocellouse on a lure as thick as some do Dicknite it won't last long.
  17. The old lacquer paints were made with nitrocellouse, hard stuff prone to cracking. Probally not what your looking for in a clearcoat these days. Yes, Fender uses it, however they were required to install state of the art scubbers. Fender used a sealer called fullerplast that was super good for sealing grain but I don't think it is around now days.
  18. Asymmetrical will never work. Good eye hazmail!
  19. Mrs. Boss Gator, Have you decided what you are going to put on the shirts? Kind Regards Dan
  20. If you don't pile on the colors, dry to touch is fine! There are instances where you can use hot thinner such as blending and fading. But really not an absolute requirement. I use regular grade thinner make sure though it isn't recycled and its virgin. You will discover that it will do just about everything required when painting a lure. If you find a need to use retarder buy a quart and mix with the general grade to get what you want. Good Luck!
  21. No retarder! That will prolong the drying time. Why are you heat setting the lacquer? There is no need to use a high dollar lacquer thinner. You don't need to keep the paint on a lure that wet. That lacquer thinner is intended for use on a auto. If you are heat setting with a hot thinner you are most likely trapping solvent in the paint. Once a skin is formed on the paint this retards the evaporation, again let it dry on its own. The only time it would be prudent to use a hot thinner would be when painting in very hot or humid weather the prolonged evaporation will allow the humidy to evaporate from the finish and reduce the occurance of blush in the paint.
  22. That is the general idea, however, I would leave tackleunderground.com encircled around the fish logo and add text of choice below or streamline the text and place inside the fish logo. Possibly: 2008 ShowMeState-TU Rendezvous April 25-27 Clinton, MO.
  23. It doesn't require more than some additional text to commemorate the event, in my opinion. This present logo you have rendered is tasteful enough to me. The real problem may arise from the lack of agreement amongst the attendees, whilst deciding which color or logo. However, you could simpley forego all the wrangling and use your own judgement!
