Find a body shop/car dealership in your area and ask them about their excess paint, most likely this will be of the basecoat/clearcoat variety. Which you can thin the basecoat colors with lacquer thinner, urethane clear and lacquer clear will topcoat these base coat colors nicely! It is imperative that you use a respirator while shooting basecoat and do so in a well ventilated area, if not a booth of some such. Free Paint!

Thats some sound advice, Dean. Several old baits incorporated several inches of wire leader which attached to the line tie on the bill. I suspect their motive was to eliminate the aforementioned and to keep the toothy ones on the line. -

Poke a few holes in the bottom of the groove on the top of the can with an awl or something sharp. This will allow paint that accumulates there to drain back into the can and the lid will still seal up tight.

I believe this little tool is known as a profile or contour gage. Anway it works great for spray bars and patterns on plugs. You can quickly change it to any size or configuration. It also helps you to maintain uniformity when carving baits -

Thanks Dean! I have fished these old wood pikies and other old baits for a long time. In situations where there is tremendous fishing pressure these old baits can be the trick. I hear Creek Chub Bait Co just this year has re-introduced the old wood pikie, go figure! Glad to hear this adorned chunk of wood ushered you down memory lane. Kind Regards -
