Some guys use as much as 50% salt. So, try 1 oz. salt with 2 oz plastic.

Are you talking about black nickel or blue like the blueing of a gun? If you are talking about "blue" the only ones I know of are "off-shore" and are very cheap quality. I believe in giving the customer what he wants; but "I" draw the line at what quality goes into the product. Most times customers won't notice when everything works well, but you and everybody else will hear about it if it doesn't.

Here's a little trick I use. I keep my hardbaits in Plano boxes(3700) I spray them with an oil-based scent. This helps with the rust. I also spray my worm hooks and jigs. :

I agree BigZ. I've been using it exclusively for the last 6 years. Very powerful. I used to use their garlic(very strong also) but it started giving me headaches. You won't go wrong with LC craw.

The mental image I had was Berkley's color.

I've never attempted it but if I had to I would think a purple with violet highlite.

Could a person have a CNC alum. 2 part mold made and inject the product like those hand injection deals for soft plastic? Has anyone ever tried that?

I've been reading all these posts about new materials for lips. As most of you know I'm mainly a soft bait guy. But, in years past I used to make topwater baits. (I've never made a diving bait) I'm amazed at the progress some of you have made and continue to make. Now to the point. Being used to "molds" my first thought was; can't a mold be made (silicone) of a lip and an acrylic material be pured into it to form a lip? : :idea: I may be way off base but I've not seen anyone mention a similar idea on TU. Just thinking off the cuff.

It's good that you were not hurt any worse. I think anyone who has poured lead has a "burn" story. Just goes with the territory. It's like the saying " it's not if, it's when and how bad". Oh; can you read "Do-it" in your hand? Just kidding.

It all depends on what you are adding the black for. If you're trying to make a light blue to a darker blue or a green a little darker. Maybe you just add 1 drop of black to 4 oz. plastic and a little black glitter to make a very light smoke. You can change white to grey(not silver) or regular orange to a burnt orange and then add a little red highlite for a really nice effect. You've heard the phrase "basic black"? Well black is a basic color and will enhance or slightly alter any color. The amounts you use depends on what you want to come out with. If you can afford it; just play "mad doctor" and start with each color you have then add 1 drop of black to see what happens. (keep notes on what you do, when you do it, so that you can repeat it) Sometimes you will amaze yourself at what comes out when you play around with colors. You will, unfortunatley, ruin some of the batches you make; but this becomes a learning curve. In any case, take a day and try it.

I use LC'S motoroil to get the watermelon I like.

Probably the easiest way is to tell you how I do it. 8 oz plastic in a pyrex with the colors added and stirred. Heat for 1.5 mins. Take out and stir then return for 1 min. Take out and stir and return for 30 secs. To re-heat while pouring I return to micro for 30 secs. Black glitter is the easiest to burn.

Don't heat for 2 minutes straight. Heat the plastic in stages then add the glitter.

It'd safer not to use a "hard" master. Use old plastic to make a soft master.

And don't use the micro that you eat from. Buy a cheap one for the plastic.

It's a heat problem; but don't throw those sticks away, they fish pretty good. Try to not mix so much plastic at a time. I rarely heat more that 8 oz at one time.

Not at all. Just don't over-do it. Start with 1/16 tsp for the recipie. There will be times when you will use more but most times it would be a waste. I have a lot of fun with highlites.

I would think that the silicone would melt. Is your mold made with the silicone caulk? If so, silicone will stick to silicone so you could build up your mold.
