In my area the RCMP have a program where they will give a "borderline kid" a bicycle and our bass club joined in and we buy the kid a fishing combo to go with the bike. We have a large lake right at the town line with a marina; so it's easy for the kids to go there and fish.

I agree guy's(about the kids). I took my 9 year old grandson in a BASS fundraiser tournament last fall. He hasn't stopped talking about it yet. He now is asking to replace my partner in the Provincial Pro Tour. It's the greatest thing for them. There are too many distractions out there that lead them to no where and lots of trouble. Maybe we should have a kids photo gallery. What do ya think Red?
  3. Be sure to check with your local DNR people to make sure if it is legal to do that. In some areas; mine being one of them; it is illegal to do that. Wouldn't want anybodys fishing trip to get spoiled with a fine.
  4. Just salt in the plastic will make it look like frosted glass.
  5. Try 8 ozs. of plastic with 1/4 cup salt. Add 1 drop black and some white pearl powder.
  6. check your email. I sent you a PM.
  7. Welcome Bruce. I live in Canada and I've been pouring for about 10 years. When I started ordering supplies I had them shipped UPS. I soon found out that it was way too exspensive that way. I now have all my supplies shipped via mail. The brokerage fee if $5 CDN for each package plus GST.(no duty) It takes a little longer but it is about $50 cheaper for each order from what UPS will charge you. As far as I know there are no suppliers of plastisol in Canada; wish there was. There are plenty of "mold" posts and tutorials here that will answer your questions. As for the glitter; the glitter in craft shops usually won't work(heat curls them) and if you are using a micro you could have a problem with some of them. Whether you pour for yourself or for sale won't make a difference here. Only attitude. Again; welcome and I hope you have lots of fun with this hobby. Expect to ruin some rubber at first until you get used to it. Check out the sticky at the top for recipies to get yourself going. Nova
  8. I add all of the ingrediants before I heat and I don't have a problem.
  9. I have found that with the micro I don't try to heat it to temp all at once. I set it for about 2 min. then stir; then I set it for 1:30 and then stir again. Then I complete the heating. I add all of the ingrediants before I heat making sure to stir well(color). I don't have the bibbling problem any more. It is a little slower to get the plastic to pouring temp; but at least I don't have a great big mess to clean up.
  10. Looks great. I think you're on to something there. I don't think I've ever seen one quite like that. Should work great.
  11. Also check the sticky at the top of this forum.
  12. We fish them 50% wacky and 50% texas skin-hooked; but we use smaller hooks. We will use a 1/0 or 2/0 ewg for wacky and a 2/0 or 3/0 for texas.(salted baits) We find that if the hook is too big it takes away from the natural action of the bait.

    bass bugs?

Are you wanting to learn to spin deer hair?
  14. check the sticky in soft plastics. There are a lot of good colors there.
  15. Cabela's used to sell that one in some of their kits years ago. I think it is made by a company in Eufala.
  16. You might find them at Hagen's.com
  17. Looks really great Andrew. I'll try that in the first N.S. Provincial tour tournament. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again.
  18. Dave at Lurecraft will pour you sample baits of the molds you are wondering about. Nominal charge. But at least you won't buy molds and get something you can't use or wasn't what you thought it was.
  19. I use a product called "Seal-all". It's made in the US so I assume it's available down there. You have to thin it down with acetone to a watery state. Then you brush it on the plaster. You have to do 3 or 4 coats. It dosen't effect the detail as the first coat just soaks right in. Seal-all is impervious to gasoline once it cures (I've used it to fix carberators). It works just fine on the molds. I've poured several hundred baits in it with no effect on it. Stays glossy too. Just remeber to mix this stuff with ventilation.

    Opinions wanted

We fish mainly partner tournys up here although we also have some that are singles; but that is only one person in the boat. There was a club here that used the 2 man singles setup but what was happening was that one team won most of the tournys. One time it was the guy in the front and the next it was the guy in the back. People saw right through it and now they don't draw very many boats. So' yea it can happen that people will cheat if given the chance. No surprise.

Some glue sticks are creamy colored and some are clear. Go to your local craft store or hardware store.
  22. If you use mineral oil you will harden your baits to the point where they are ruined. For scent go to www.Lurecraft.com
  23. Here is a pic of "buzz" the mouse; new and improved. It is on a 1/2 oz. head and frame; also has a 5/0 hook. The ears are uniform in size and shape(had a punch made). The 1/2oz. weight allows for better casting as the hair cuts into the wind quite a bit and reduces the cast with a lighter weight.
  24. Just add red glitter. If you want lighter color just reduce the colors proportions.
  25. They haven't changed their prices very much for a long time. Maybe Dave was holding back or maybe some of his suppliers dried up and he had to change. Just a guess on my part. I've had nothing but good service with them over the years.
