  1. What kind of problems are you having? Post a pic, maybe we can help. www.novalures.com
  2. Everyone has their own ideas on scent. Me personally. I put the scent on after I bag the baits. The baits; especially with salt in them; will soak up the scent. As far as what flavor or kind; I don't think that matters too much( although some will swear by certain kinds) as long as it covers your scent that you deposit while you are handling the bait. Some guys even use WD-40. www.novalures.com
  3. Don't give up on your split cup just yet. I've had one now for two years with no problems. It's a 2 cup. My next one will be a 4 cup. www.novalures.com
  4. Jim; I've seen them with white; grey and even a pale yellow belly. I understand what he's trying to do with the spots. I would use highlight powders with a small art brush to make the dots and then dip the whole frog in clear plastic. www.novalures.com
  5. The one question I have is what color is the frog's belly. That's what the fish will see the most of and to me that's the important color. I'm not discounting your efforts to make a realisticly colored bait, they sell like hotcakes; but it still has to catch fish. www.novalures.com
  6. Split cup is a lot of fun. You can get a variety of results depending on the distance of the spout from the sprue hole. 1/4" to 2" will give you differant results. Even rotating 20 degrees right and 20 degrees left will change the results. The main thing is to have fun with it. www.novalures.com

    3x Plastic

I don't know a lot about the 3x plastic but if you do a search here you will find plenty on it. It has been discussed in the past quite a bit. www.novalures.com
  8. You don't need to make the mold look exactly like the waterdog; it only has to appear to look like it. Trust me on this. I made a lizard with no legs and it fishes like crazy. After all, the fish hit buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and they look like nothing else in the water. That being said; if you are trying to make a bait that catches fish and fishermen then that's a different story. www.novalures.com
  9. Wow. Dave the engineer. lol Just teasing you Dave..........Nil www.novalures.com
  10. Jim; I'd be a little concerned about freezing the un-set POP. AS you know water expands when it freezes and then contracts when it thaws. To me, this can cause the pop to have some voids in it after it sets which will effect the way it pours as well as the lifespan of the mold. It could make the pop quite chaulky. I may also be wrong and it may be worth a try;lol. www.novalures.com
  11. You've got it Frank. I did a similar thing as a pouring exercise and posted a pic in the gallery. It's a frog with a yellow piece of plastic inside. This one was done in an open mold. www.novalures.com
  12. Chuck Ruth from Calhouns told me that it is a bi-product of the oil industry and is basically the same material that linolium(spelling?) flooring is made from with some additives. It's a flexible product; meaning that with certain additives it can be made into several types of items such as lawn furniture, etc. www.novalures.com
  13. Why does POP only allow you to pour one color? I use mostly POP and in and open mold I can pour 1, 2, 3, or 4 color baits. In my double molds I can pour 2 colors with the split pot and I'm working on pouring 3 colors in a double mold. Don't convince yourself that you can only pour one color with POP. Experiment with it. www.novalures.com
  14. I'm glad to see that someone is using my "book" design to paint scales. Quite easy to use isn't it. Good work on the lures by the way. www.novalures.com

    Thanks

Looks good from here. If that's your first attempt, you're well on your way. Nice going. www.novalures.com
  16. I've thought of it but the main problems are pressure and heat. You have to figure a way to hold the mold halves together firmly while injecting but not so tight that it breakes the mold(POP). Possibly two pieces of 1/2" plywood the size of the mold and clamps. Heat will warp the resin mold after a while which will allow the plastic to squirt out the sides possibly burning the operator. I used to make a few molds from resin but I didn't like the warping and I sure didn't like the smell transfer to the baits once the mold heated up. www.novalures.com
  17. I do all my own designing so I'm forever into the POP and testing the new baits. I've got a pile of old POP molds broken up behind my garage of designs that seemed like a good idea at the time but did not fish well enough. A $20 bag of plaster can make you many many molds. Why waste money if you don't have to. One day I plan on putting some of my designs in the gallery for all to see. www.novalures.com
  18. Be very careful copying baits like that and selling them. It could land you in a whole heap of trouble money wise. The best way is to design a bait that is similar and use that. www.novalures.com
  19. Be careful with that as some of that type of material will transfer it's color to the mold and it will transfer color to the baits you pour. www.novalures.com
  20. Making mistakes is definately better for learning than being told about it. Try putting the block in a pail of water to dissolve the POP from your master. (may take a while) Mark it down to experiance and keep going. www.novalures.com
  21. My guess was right; alcohol in a spray bottle should work. Save your money guys, go to the dollar store; lol. www.novalures.com
  22. Welcome to best site on the net. Lots of good folks here. www.novalures.com
  23. You beat me to it Jim; lol. www.novalures.com
  24. Are you pouring from a split cup? If you are temp differances are not going to be possible. You will have to adjust with color. As suggested make your blue much brighter; either with a little blue pearl or with super blue highlight. You can also add some large blue flake to help. www.novalures.com
  25. Two years; you're still a pup;lol. Good report though. You've still got a long way to go yet and many more $; so brace yourself. www.novalures.com
