  1. If you do most of your fishing in the big water try getting turquoise highlight and green highlight. You'll be surprised at what you can get done. In the soft plastic gallery under my name; or click on the number 54 at the top right and you will see a bait that has those 2 colors on it to immitate a salmon fry. Question:- Do you like the color Spanish Mackeral? www.novalures.com
  2. That's a new one on me. I haven't seen that product before. The only thing with spray cans is that it may put an awful lot of bubbles in the epoxy as it sprays because of the propellant. www.novalures.com
  3. Let us know how it turns out. If it doesn't work you may have a whole new color. www.novalures.com
  4. If I had to guess I would say one drop red or strawberry and one drop of brown. www.novalures.com
  5. Don't forget the highlights. They will give the irridesent look you mentioned. Just as Shane said, start with just a little and see what you have; then go from there. A 1/16th tsp or 1/32nd tsp is plenty to start with 4 oz plastic. www.novalures.com

    Divided Cup

I would think the nylon would melt and coated wood will probably explode because of the retained moisture content. Wood is never 100% dry. www.novalures.com
  7. I'm assuming this was directed at me. If it wasn't I apoligize in advance. If you look through some of my posts you will see that I have stated that I'm from Nova Scotia and more simple than that; all you have to do is click on my site and you will see my mailing address and email addy. Can't get more clearer than that. www.novalures.com

    Divided Cup

Vinegar is a weak acid. Just put some on a Qtip and dob the shiny part and let it set overnite. I wouldn't pour it in the cup. www.novalures.com

    Divided Cup

I had the same problem. It's the shiny part of the metal where you broke off the piece. You have to dull the finish. You can try vinegar to dull it. You also have to clean out the JB weld from the area where the metal was. www.novalures.com

    Divided Cup

Don't paint the tin. You won't have any trouble with it. I heat and re-heat in the divided cup with no problems. www.novalures.com
  11. I concur. www.novalures.com
  12. Spot on Dave; I totally agree. The way I look at it is that an honest person would no fear of letting folks on TU know where they hail from. To me it's only polite. It's like hiding behind a mask. I'm not trying to stir anything up by saying this or start a big argument here. This is just the way I feel. I say all this because everytime I see a silly location all I can think of; is this someone phishing for ideas they can sell to some large company. www.novalures.com
  13. You're on the right track;(you've got your thinking cap on and that's half the battle). One of the problems is that the baits are so small that a large hole pattern won't look good. Tried onion bags but the holes are too large. Maybe the metal screen from a car speaker or a puter speaker might work if it can be shaped. As far as the sealing goes, at the time I tried to do this, I didn't know about Elmer's glue. I might have to re-visit this later on; as right now I have 3 new baits I'm working and I don't want top add anymore to the plate. Let me know what you find out. Try browsing around the hardware section of the local stores; including the Dollar Store if you have one.(they have lots of neat things) www.novalures.com
  14. It can be costly with the shipping but the real pinch is with UPS. By the time they get through with you you won't like them anymore;lol. Try getting the 5 gal shipped regular mail and the customs is only $5 plus taxes. You can also buy your plastic from Tubeman who is a member here and he lives in Ontario. www.novalures.com
  15. I tried that one quite a while back Dave. The problem is that the indents the netting makes are very shallow and after you seal and coat the mold they all but fade away. I always keep looking for netting that is a larger diameter with a tight pattern; but I've yet to find one. www.novalures.com
  16. I'm going to go with LCs sweet potato and a touch of LCs oxblood. www.novalures.com
  17. The plastic absorbs the worm oil. This will keep the plastic soft and supple. At least that's what it's supposed to do as far as I understand. www.novalures.com
  18. Good luck with that one. Those designs are injected and as far as I know that's the only way you're going to get those appendages to fill. If you make a 2 part mold of that bait and handpour it all you'll get is a rough finish where all the little hairs are supposed to be. www.novalures.com
  19. Try worm oil. www.novalures.com
  20. I went straight from mineral oil to worm oil/scent. There has been discussion of this subject here before but I don't think anyone ever came up with what it actually is. If you get it broken down at a lab please post the results. www.novalures.com
  21. There you go Zbass. I always work under the K.I.S.S. rule if you know what I mean. I use whatever is at hand. I also browse stores, Wallyworld,(stay out of the sports dept), Dollar Store, etc and look through all the sections(except clothing) for inspiration. You never know what is going to trigger an idea. www.novalures.com
  22. Don't use mineral oil or anything containing mineral oil unless you want to turn your baits as hard as pencils. lol You have to use the proper things at certain times. There are some tings you can shortcut but not this one as far as I know. (you can use oil scents but they can be pricey as well) Oil companies tell you to put a certain type of oil in your car/truck; I don't think you can get away with using veg. oil in your Hummer. www.novalures.com
  23. I use plaster of paris simply because it's easy and cheap to use. If it doesn't come out the way you want you're not out a lot of $, especially when you are experimenting with new and differant shapes. www.novalures.com
  24. Sorry; just found this. Dave, you're right on. I would make seperate molds for each part, then hook them all together to make the master mold. As for the claws; you can't make one and use it to make a claw for each side if they have a left or right curve to them unless they are the same on the top and bottom as the right claw is a mirror image of the left claw. www.novalures.com
  25. The more; the merrier. Welcome. www.novalures.com
