  1. I always mix my colors before I heat. Willy what colors are you having problems with? www.novalures.com
  2. I've used both as well as several other things over the years. I prefer the epoxy; but that's just me. www.novalures.com
  3. The only thing I know that will make your baits"frosted" is salt. Are you adding salt? www.novalures.com
  4. As for gluing cuts closed; you first have to stop the bleeding with pressure and binding. Then you pull the skin together and touch the glue in several spots on the cut. Hold until the glue sets. Yes it does heal quickly(depending on your health) and yes it stings like a bugger. Don't get excited if you see you blood bubble. Do it right the first time because you all know what desolves super glue and you don't want that in your cut. This all sounds silly but it's not and it works. Also, I'm not a doctor. I'm only telling you what my experience is with doing this on myself. www.novalures.com
  5. 1/8" should be fine. It's not necessary to do it for some baits but why take a chance. It's much easier to make vents as you make the mold instead of after it's dry and sealed. www.novalures.com
  6. You shouldn't need venting for the stick. You probably will for the beaver. I would put a vent at the end of each "claw", and flipper. www.novalures.com
  7. That's only a short hop from fishing gummie worms and some folks have been doing that for years. lol www.novalures.com
  8. Happy Birthday Jerry. Question: how come your age is not listed? lol www.novalures.com
  9. Delw; what was in them to make them hazzardous? www.novalures.com
  10. Quetion:- what happens to the wax after it's heated in the plastic? If it remains, wouldn't it reconstitue and make the bait stiffer? www.novalures.com
  11. What I have found in my own experiance is that if I'm in a hurry there is more of a chance to burn the plastic or curl the glitter. You tend to heat a higher temp or give it just that extra 10 seconds in the micro. That is where I always got into trouble. That being said there is one glitter that I like to curl on purpose and that is the large black glitter. I like the effect of it turning into black rods instead of staying flat. So, I will give that one just a little more heat; just enough to curl it but not enough to scorch the plastic or make the glitter bleed. www.novalures.com
  12. Bojon the inside of Hunt's cans are coated and the plastic doesn't stick to it. The problem with getting plastic out of a full can is that the can is only 3" in diameter and it's hard to get your hand in there. The best part of this is that you can by the sauce for $ .99/ can. If you like pasta go for it; the sauce is not bad either. As far as the heat goes, I keep the hotplate a little higher than medium and with the hot refills I can dip for up to 3 hours no problem. The trick is to "know" your hotplate. I don't insulate the cans at all. What I have found out though is that you can't have a breeze flowing over the cans. What I mean by that is my hotplate is not far from the door to my shop and if I leave it open the plastic cools sooner than I like. I do keep my exhaust hood fan going though. www.novalures.com
  13. Does the crayon foam up when it melts? What are crayons made of besides the color? www.novalures.com
  14. Try Hunt's pasta sauce cans. They are 3" across and 6" deep. They hold tree cups of plastic. I heat the plastic in a micro and then put the cans on a hotplate. As the plastic gets used I make more of the color I'm using and heat in the micro then dump it in the can. They work great. Just remember to rub down the sharp edge so you don't cut yourself and when you are done dump out the plastic into a pot or a large pyrex. (If you don't it's very hard to get out after it cools) I've got about 20 of these cans going now. www.novalures.com
  15. I've never seen that color before; it certainly is bright. I was thinking that it may be a bright red with red highlite in it; or maybe a touch of gold highlite. Possibly even a touch of both. I was thinking I might be able to help but I think you better try to find out where Delw got it from or maybe he will "special"order it if you buy enough it. Sorry I couldn't help. www.novalures.com
  16. The bait if it's just that color in it. If not just take a piece of black and a piece white paper. Then make a small smear of the color on each. Show both. www.novalures.com
  17. Have you got a pic of what it looks like? www.novalures.com
  18. Don't laugh King; I've closed cuts that should have had stitches with super glue before. Works good. www.novalures.com
  19. Happy Birthday Sterling. I remember when I was 35; or at least I think I do. lol www.novalures.com
  20. Thanks for the kind words guys. I don't pour those shads and I've never tried that trick. It was just what popped into my head after I read the post and it seemed logical. Please let us know how it turns out. I would suspect that the plastic that goes over the eyes would have to be a little hotter than normal to get a good bond..(no cracks) www.novalures.com
  21. Take a pin and stick it in the back of the eye. Then dip only the front of the eye in clear plastic. Quickly set the eye into the space in the alum mold making sure the plastic pushes out from under the eye.(the mold has to be fairly warm) Then pour the molds as you always do. The "flash" of clear plastic will be melted and bond to the colored plastic. This will cover the eye and keep it in place. www.novalures.com
  22. Like Chris said. Speed and heat. I also like to "blend" colors which requires a little more speed and heat. This requires more consentration that usual. I've burnt myself several times doing these. www.novalures.com
  23. Bruce; do you folks have the "no call phone while driving" law there? We finally got it here this year but they still let them talk on hands-free units which is still no better. I haven't been hit by anyone but a couple of years ago I almost lost my truck and boat to a cellphone talker parked half off the road on a curve. i pulled out to pass her (blond of course) and met a fully loaded dumptruck coming the other way. I swear there was only 2" between the mirrors when we passed. Scared me half to death, especially that it was 6:00 AM. Sorry guys; didn't mean to highjack the thread. www.novalures.com
  24. Genitals Bruce. Seems to me if I spill hot plastic on that part of me my first thought is going to be how fast I can get to a doctor. lol:eek: Here's another thought; what am I doing out there with no clothes on? www.novalures.com
  25. Thanks for the nice words Rixon. That core was relativley easy compared to the 3 color shads. Those baits take some time to do. www.novalures.com
