Has anyone tried black gills on deep diving cranks to see if it makes any differance? www.novalures.com

    Red ???????

Talk to any diver and he will tell you that blood looks black underwater not red. Red is one of the first colors to fade out as it goes deeper. As for the big manufacturers; we are not the only ones fishing for something. We fish for fish they fish for fishermen. www.novalures.com
  5. You can use highlights with any color. You start with a small amount of highlight; maybe 1/16 tsp or less. You can always add more if you want to after you see the effect of the smaller amount. You have to be careful because if you add too much you will ruin the effect. Most of my recipies are 1/16 or 1//8 tsp for 4 oz plastic. Sometimes you may even want less; say using green highlight with black recipie. Always keep notes on what you do, as you do it. Don't try to remember what you've done after you've finished. The objective is to be able to re-produce the exact color everytime. I'm working on a perch recipie done using a core that has highlight in it. If it works out I'll post a pic in the gallery. www.novalures.com
  6. I got mine from my brother also. Full face 3M high end. The price tag was $100. I only use it in the winter months when I can't open the door and windows in my shop. I also have an exhaust fan. If I'm only doing a quick pour I don't alsways use it. I have a beard and the mask drives me crazy(itches) and makes it hard to consentrate. www.novalures.com
  7. There are only two limitations to experimentation. Money and imagination. I never stop thinking of different color combos or ways to pour. As for the money; well that's a different story; lol. Highlites are neat; I never get tired of them. www.novalures.com
  8. Thanks. This one has a gold bottom that; in the sunlight; reflects itself up through the green. It's a neat effect. www.novalures.com

  11. The best material is aluminum. As for the pop detail getting washed out when you seal it; I use several coats of thinned epoxy. Make sure the epoxy is thinned down quite a bit and you won't loose that much detail. It may take 3 or 4 coats to get the shine you need. Push the baits down in so that just a little is showing. After the mold is set, remove the baits and with a large, straight knife, level the top of the mold by scraping the pop. This will make all the openings the same size and a little cleaner. Trim up the rough edges and seal it. www.novalures.com
  12. To be honest I haven't put them in the water. I do most of my designing in the winter and there is a lot of "hard water" then, lol. I can't see why it won't work though. Thanks for the comments. www.novalures.com
  13. Earth, I see you're from the Fla. area. Why don't you call it "Gatorhead" and tell them to go pee up a rope. lol www.novalures.com

    Hot Plate

You sure can. A lot of us started off with a hotplate and still use them today along with micros etc. Just do a search for the topics you have questions about. Most of the basic questions have been asked and answered and are stored here on TU. www.novalures.com

    Making Colors

You're better off buying the colors you need. To get the colors you want there will be a lot of trial and error(wasted product). You will spend more $ that if you bought the colors pre-made. www.novalures.com
  16. Thanks. www.novalures.com
  17. Tom, I use a box cutter. I get them at the dollar store. The salt in the bait dulls the edge quickly if you make a lot of baits. www.novalures.com
  18. These are a few of the Big Head Worm in it's finished state. I'm working on a couple of more colors. I look for a reflective quality so it's a lot of trial and error. I've got 5 colors so far and heading for 7 or 8. The eyes are a pain to put on but worth the trouble. www.novalures.com

  21. You have to get the butcher to sign a paper that he weighed it; how much it weighed, and the serial and inspection numbers from the scale. Cover all the bases because you only get one chance at it. www.novalures.com
  22. Static with the glitter is just a fact of nature. It's worse in dry climates(it's bad enough here). I'm afraid it's just something that you have to deal with. www.novalures.com
  23. When it happened here I was in my 30's and I read blueprints and wrote house construction contracts. Almost made me crazy. Thanks God for conversion calculators. lol Once you get a handle on it, it's very easy. Everything is in 10's. www.novalures.com
  24. Lurecraft is the cheapest I've found for 3D eyes. I tried to make my own but the finish will dull down as you handle them. www.novalures.com
  25. Wow Tom. I've only had a problem once in the past 15 years. It happened to be fine red glitter and you're right it is a mess. Opened the box in the kitchen and the ceiling fan happened to be going. The stuff went everywhere. Wife was not impressed. They gave me credit for it. www.novalures.com
