    Crazy Money

I still can't believe this even though I saw it myself. Someone just paid $255.00 US for a 100 pack of 6" black Berkley power slugs on ebay. When I first saw it the bid was $81 with about 2 1/2 hours to go. Almost took my breath away. When I think of how many of those 100 packs I've had my hands on in the past . Oh well. www.novalures.com

    Need Help!

Could be a couple of things. You may be putting too much "release" on the first part and it could be the type of release you are using. If you are using an oil; let it sink into the plaster before you pour the second part of the mold. Don't forget to wipe of any oil that is on the master you are copying. I don't use Pam as a release because of the bubbles it makes when you spray it. I just use a cooking oil, and not a lot of it. Hope this helps. www.novalures.com
  3. Actually Del, I've tried that some years ago. Kalin's has or had a worm threader. A long needle on a wooden handle. I found you really had to take your time or you could stick yourself in the hand and it always put kinks in the worm. www.novelures.com
  4. I've made a lot of resin molds. The detail is very good but like anything there are trade-offs. If you don't take into account for the air temp when you mix the resin you can ruin the mold and also if you are pouring a lot of the same bait at one time the molds will soften just a little and the smell will transfer to your bait. If you are just pouring for yourself(a few baits); no problem. If you make too many mistakes mixing the resin it can gat exspensive. www.novalures.com
  5. I pour 100's and 100's of baits out of POP molds sealed with epoxy with no problem. I do have alum. molds for my stiks; but I design my own baits so POP is quicker and cheaper to use. www.novalures.com
  6. I often wondered about that Mike. I assume that there is some type of jig that you have to encorporate with the mold. The other thing I was wondering was how do you stop the mono from dergrading with the hot plastic; or is it mono? www.novalures.com

    SALT

I wasn't calling you a fibber; sorry if I came off that way. Salt actually has been in baits for quite a few years now to one degree or another. It's only been the last few years that the salt content went through the roof. As lure makers we are always looking for and trying to come up with something new(so are the big guys) and the fishermen (consumers) have come to expect this. It's becoming harder and harder to come with something that hasn't already been done but they(consumers) expect "new" products in the spring. Kind of got away from the topic, sorry. www.novalures.com
  8. The problem with that is when you pour it with the sprue there it will plug up and you will get an incomplete pour. www.novalures.com

    SALT

I don't think that GY is going to tell anyone all that is in his baits. He has to admit to the salt as you can taste it. www.novalures.com
  10. Post a picture. I know what a hellgie is but I don't know this bait. www.novalures.com
  11. Thanks; I stand corrected. www.novalures.com
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't take as little as a 10% change in the bait design to get by a patent? www.novalures.com
  13. If you patent a bait you must be ready to defend it and that will cost you big time. If you don't defend it; you pretty much wasted your money on the patent. If I remember correctly from previous posts; someone mentioned that the minimum for a patent defense was around $125,000. www.novalures.com

    SALT

I've tried several different salts. Regular salt, water softner salt, sea salt. Haven't tried popcorn salt; couldn't get my mind around butter flavor, lol. I use pickling salt and I flour it. This is what works for me. Matter of fact the picture of the black and yellow Grumpy in the gallery is done with this salt. I think the whole thing comes down to what works for you and what you are trying to achieve with your baits. www.novalures.com

    What Bugs You?

Got one that just happened to me for the first time over the weekend. Dropping a POP mold that you have about 20 hours work into and have it smash to a 100 pieces. www.novalures.com
  17. Not really; but it should be hot; and the plastic you pour for the body has to be hot so that the 2 will hookup. www.novalures.com
  18. There are 2 ways to do it. One way is to make an air channel from the lowest part of the tail out the bottom of the mold. Another one should be made from the top of the curl of the tail out the side of the mold. This should allow the air pressure inside the mold to be equalized as you pour so that the plastic will flood the cavity. The other way is to pour the tail section; close the mold and then finish the pour. The first method can result in and incomplete pour and the second will require trimming of the tail after the plastic sets. Hope this helps. www.novalures.com
  19. Scares the crap out of you, doesn't it? I have some old rtv molds on my table and that is the only thing I set my pyrex on now. Glad you're ok. www.novalures.com
  20. I've never tried it; I'm only saying what I seen here in past posts. I have scorched plastic(we all have) and noticed some intesting colors; but I didn't like the smell; too acrid. I assumed the fish would not like it either so I didn't fish it. I'm not telling you to not try it; you never know; it may work. www.novalures.com
  21. The problem with scorched plastic is that the fish seem to reject it. www.novalures.com

    curl tails

That would work to relieve the pressure but I'm still not sure if it would actually pour properly. As I've said before; anything is worth a try. I've come up with some really interesting colors and ways of pouring by trying things. I've also wasted a lot of plastic as well.lol www.novalures.com
  23. I hear you Tally. 2 things I can't stand; a thief and a pervert. We put mad dogs down without too much trouble; why do we have to spend hundreds of thousands on guys like that. The russians have a simple solution:- a room with a floor drain and a 35 cent bullet. www.novalures.com

    Mold Forms

Man; save yourself some time and go buy some flat-bottomed pans for a couple of bucks each. The mold will just pop right out after it sets. www.novalures.com
  25. nova

    curl tails

I don't think that would work. The air pressure would stop the plastic from flowing into the cavity. www.novalures.com
