  1. Take the prop off and look to see if the seal around the shaft is compromised in any way. A piece of fishing line or whatever might be letting in a little amount of water and causing the fault. If you can't tell just by looking at it remove the two screws and pull the end of the housing off and look inside for any signs of water in the housing.
  2. Could be a sassafras tree? They grow like weeds and if I remember correctly the bark pulls away easily and kinda looks like what you posted.
  3. A blue will take the finish off just about anything with their razor teeth. They also fight like the devil with no let up. Get a 15+lber on the line and it will work you over pretty good. If you're target is blues, don't even waste time sealing your lures. It's a waste of money and time since the blue is going to tear it up easily. Make the lure a quick shot of paint and then fish it. If the lure isn't too bad just reshoot it with paint for the next trip.
  4. There was an epic debate on the board a couple years ago that got heated. No one wanted to discuss finishes for a while after that. It was on the old board so I can't search for it but it was good reading.
  5. Another probably obvious change is lighter hooks. Different brands can be lighter than others.
  6. You can look at this site for most leader questions. http://www.leadertec.com/tipsandtechniques/crimp_techniques.html They are a UK based company but the 'Tips and Techniques' pages are extremely informative. I have followed their technique and I have yet to have a failure on a leader, be it crimp or fluro snapping. I used one most of last season casting for muskies before I switched and I only did it just because not due to excessive wear.
  7. The three on the bottom with the large lip. Is the lip part of the main body or added?
  8. I think I'll actually pick some up then the next time I have the chance. thanks.
  9. About how many pours does the bondo last before there are any problems? I too have started using wood but I am getting annoyed at having to drill new holes after only a few weights.
  10. I am trying to wrap my mind around this. I built 4 thick bodied cranks, large bass cranks with fairly flat sides and weighted them as well as I could being these were my first of this type and I think they hunt right out the gate. They track straight forward but there is a different rhythm in the retrieve. It's like they are trying to find center but keep dancing left and right a bit but are still coming in with a nice wobble with out tracking off of center. I was pleased that they didn't spin in circles, even when ripped, but it wasn't what I was expecting but now I am going to keep these under guard since it seems I stumbled blindly on to the secret weapon. Don't ask for specifics because I don't know myself how I did it.
  11. I am still a beginner at lure building in general but I read Husky's tutorial and I gave it a shot. I followed his tutorial right through and it worked great for me. Here's a 1 of two gliders I did. Finished with devcon
  12. that's it? I have 3 weeks of vacation coming and I need something to fill the time..................

    e-bay

Ebay has in the past let you relist the item once and if it sold only pay 1 listing fee, if it didn't sell you'd have to pay twice.. This was for individuals with out an ebay store.
  14. I gave it 4hrs on these lures and they seem just as hard as a long wait to recoat. I bring in an electric heater to warm the shop before I start so it's maybe mid 60's, maybe. My problem is I can't wait to coat'em that I get sloppy about wiping them off with alcohol before coating them so i get small areas that pull away. Can't wait to fish these things now.
  15. I let them cure till I could handle them with out leaving any prints on them and then I recoated them. They are turning now so i'll check them in the morning. Thanks. This forum can answer almost any question I have without even asking it.
  16. Being fairly new at plug building my top coats don't always come out great with the first coat. My question is how soon can I apply a 2nd coat of Devcon to fill in the imperfections? I searched the site and I couldn't find too much on this subject. One post said 24hrs. Any suggestions? I have a couple now rotating on the dryer that are probably going to need a second coat.
  17. www.Catcherman.com is a great site for fishing and the mods do an excellent job of keeping attitiudes out. They just switched software for the boards and improved the speed of it. Good Stuff. Of course I also like this site, www.tackleunderground.com, for amazing ideas of how tackle should be made. Chips site was good when he had the tutorials but since he's taken them down I haven't been back, but he still has skills that I can only dream of. www.Stripersonline.com is another great site for those who like to get Salty and also rinse off a bit in the Sweetwater.
  18. I am talking about the ones in topic. I've tried a few things but still can't see all the pics. Some I can see now but not all.
  19. I am logged in, all I see is the pic name and the size but no download icon to see it. I did read the FAQ and site rules but have been unable to find out why.
  20. I have been lurking for a bit on this site but just recently i have been unable to see the pics in all topics. Can anyone tell me why? I have never posted before does that matter?
