I'm of the opinion that single item auctions would recieve the most money and please send or post a definite arrival date for the lures. I've starting working but it will take me another 4-5 days to finish the lures and get them in the post. Did we want pictures before shipping or will you photo and post with the auction? DeVery

Count me in for 6 custom baits for the auction. DeVery

1/2 mask, safety glasses with side protectors.

Now if I could make something like those I'd think about switching from glass, Incredible looking lures, they put the real in realistic! DeVery

My biggest problem so far has been figuring out how to attach a rigid wire through the center of one of my glass lures. A few of my projects have come to a standstill(apologies to Lapala) until I figure out how to work the metal into the glass without cracking the glass or melting the metal. It seems the wires movement cracks the lure from the inside out. No matter what gauge the wire it'll "flex" and the glass of course doesn't. Also I haven't found a hook that stands up to the temp I melt glass, even the stainless hooks melt. DeVery

You know, up until about 5 minutes ago I would have given the same advice but my wife noticed in this month's outdoor canada magazine , fishing 2005 special issue, the special honour best canadian product is something that looks amazingly like one of MY LURES. yep a GLASS LURE!!!!!!! a frigging glass lure done with my style of eye, wire through the center. Up until a year ago no one on the planet was doing a glass lure that looked remotely like mine in design, style, colors or shapes and some one does a (I went back & deleted what I first typed) and gets a BEST CANADIAN PRODUCT award, with a full page picture and special honor to boot! I'm so pissed right now. My wife tells me the lures aren't as "nice" as mine and she's sure he came up with it on his own. Maybe. But I'm seriously doubting it. So you know what I'm going to look into patenting and unless my wife threatens divorce I'm probably going to do it no matter what the cost. Sensible be damned. Rant over.

Hi Kell, It can't be done or rather I can't do it, the "scales" are actually another glass on top of the glass body of the lure. I do make eyes some examples are posted in the gallery section, check out: http://www.tackleunderground.com/modules/mx_smartor/album.php?smartor_mode=album_showpage&pic_id=1471 They're made the old way, by myself. If your're interested in getting samples or want other info just send me an e-mail. By the way guys my offer still stands for samples from the Tackle underground membership, just send me an e-mail & I'll send you a sample set of eyes. All I ask is some feedback. Best regards, DeVery

Hi Guys, Sorry I haven't been around for a while, but still around and making lures. I posted a photo of a new style of lure I've been working on in the hard baits photo gallery. It's an example of a style that simulates scale on glass. I'd love to hear some opinions/critques of the look. Thanx in advance, DeVery

Hi guys, I was at my favorite Calgary fly fish store this past summer, and got to talking with the owner about my glass lures, my next trip in I brung some of my lures and he wondered if I could make them small enough to fly fish. Didn't know for sure and we both were a bit worried about killing yourself on a bad cast, but what the heck. So I made a few for him to try on his annual Nov., Christmas Island fly fishing trip. He mostly fishes for Bonefish & Trevally so we came up with a blue/white/red color scheme, weighing less than 5 grams and 2 centimeter's long. Finally had time to stop in his shop today and got the report. He didn't catch anything with 'em, nada, nunca. He liked the way they looked in the water, but they were just too heavy to fly fish. He passed them onto his buddy who was using a spinner outfit, who promptly caught some Trevally. So, do you guys think it's possible to make a fly out of glass? I've seen some interesting glue fly's lately and thought if I could get the glass small enough it would be possible to fish'em. What do ya think? DeVery

I've been trying to think of an appropriate response to this lure Anthony. I guess WOW sums it up. Those scales are masterpieces, works of art. and the overall design of the lure is beyond professional. A couple of months ago some one posted a question about patenting designs, I think you should think about it. I can imagine someone from a certain bait company, rhymes with "crapala" or another that rhymes with "herkley" rubbing their hands together in avarice and poring over your design. Now the real question, when are you selling them? DeVery

Grinch, somehow reminds me of the grinch.

Hi guys, I recently had 4 auctions on e-Bay to see what my lures would sell for and was a little put off on the results. Let's just say people were getting more for remaindered ny giants plastic spinners. What's the deal with that? Am I just expecting too much or is e-Bay not the place to sell? Any experiences, comments, thoughts etc. would be appreciated. DeVery

I need a name 4 my bait too. Winner gets a bag of them!!!

Flats, Check out this website: http://www.members.tripod.com/Invictaflies/id178.htm, it's the second page on a great tutorial on how to make a deer hair popper. I t has detailed instruction and pictures of the technique of making a spun hair fly. Great site overall on fly recipes too! And if you can dig it up, two years ago there was a "Fly Tyer" magazine issue with a bunch of amazing spun fly's with recipes. DeVery

I pretty much only use my own spinner's and jigs but since I don't make plastics nor diving lures I buy those from other "hobbyist's". The only commercial lures bought are Fly's (although I tie some when I have some time). After finding this community and making my own you start to see "quality issues" with commercial baits. All that being said I wouldn't ditch any lure that I paid good money for! If it works, be it store bought or handmade why stop using it? Percentage, I'd say 80% my own, 15% other handmade, 5% store bought. DeVery

I happen to make them, Give me a shout if you're interested. DeVery

That's some scary picture. Last summer my wife and I were out horseback riding in the mountains and we noticed another rider having problems with her horse on a part of the trail we hadn't ridden yet. The horse actually dumped her and wouldn't go past a spot on the trail. About an hour later we went past that spot and our horses spooked and we had to handle them to get them past that point in the trail. When we were loading the horses at the end of the day we both had the same thought that there must have been either a bear (we have grizzly warnings regularly) or a lion gone by the trail some time in the near past. When we got home that night we heard on the news that a lion was spotted in that section of the park. After seeing that picture and thinking back to the way all the horses were acting on that part of the trail It makes me think that we may have been a lot closer to a lion than we knew. It's a little unsettling to think a lion would be so acclimated to humans that they have no problem with travelling onto a well used horse trail, close to a horse campground full of very noisey diesel trucks, trailers and people being loud people. That's a great looking lure you made. Good colors. DeVery

Got my package in the mail today. Thanks to everyone and especially Jim for facilitating the swap! They're all terrific and much better than anything you can buy at the local Walmart or Canadian Tire. Strike that, to even mention lures you can buy at Walmart or Canadian Tire insults the quality of the lures you guys make. LedHed, Great color mixes, like them sparly effects. And going to have great fun making skirts for them. Also I'm going to try and fly fish those small Jigs in the plastic box, look for a pm about them soon. River Bandit, Wow, did you tie these skirts on? And where did you get those greens and especially that sparkly camo? I know it's probably a trade secret but would love to get my hands on some. Markell, I can't wait to try these on some Walleye or Salmon, the other set we swapped isn't for use so now I have a set I can fish. Sieb, Like the mix of colors, especially the Xmas one and your flounder jig goes in my collection. Randy, Terrific colors and materials. Mr. B, Great workmanship on the tied on skirts and that matte black paint is great, I'll pm you some pics on the skirts I tie onto the dartheads (if you're interested of course.) Cap'n Mike, I gotta get to BC sometime this year to fish these that orange Guppy with the tail has some big Chinook's name on it for sure. Pro paint job on the spoons. Micromunch, Great contrast in color selection and I can't wait to try the rabbit fur jig. And Jim, Like the action of the red material (I won't mention the name in case it's a secret) and that blue purple shorhaired one looks like a big trout fly (it goes into my collection). Thanks to you all, I know it was more than $10 of jig's sent by each of you! And I know I'll never buy another store bought jig again, well unless some of you guys are selling in stores. DeVery

Hi E77, It is made of glass. If you hit it with a hammer it would shatter, If you rode over it with your car it would shatter, If you dropped a boat on it, it would shatter. They don't shatter all that easy, depending on what type of bouncing you do off the rock they'll do fine, for example I use my lures all the time in shallow streams and rivers with never any breakage, they seem to do well being retrieved and skipping off bed gravel and stone. But I wouldn't cast into a rocky stream inches in depth. I've also no problem using my lures in any other situation, just don't hit them with hammers or drive over them and they'll be fine. Regards, DeVery
