  8. I use cheap wax (unscented) and only when melting hard dirty lead. Gotta be real careful when adding the wax to the hot lead

  10. rxfish Thnx for the heads up - will have to go the new pot route.. Like the idea of no rust and no scrapping. How about teflon coating the metering rod?
  11. I tried a thousand of the #8 black jig hooks and was not impressed with the quality control. Poured about 200 and almost one out of ten hooks was useless. VMC is like one out of 200/300. Don't know about the larger sizes..
  12. John You will be softening or melting your basecoat, under the masking, when you re-heat the jig. It would probably be easier to cut stencils out of clear plastic (so you can see what you are doing). Don

  14. For single colors you will get better results with a fluid bed. Depends on the size of the jig also. With smaller jigs you don't run into the problems you do with the larger jigs. If you are not interested in making your own - check out TJ's tackle.
  15. Teo Welcome aboard. What types of fish do you catch in these competitions? Can you post some pictures of your spinning lures? Do you fish with jigs?

  19. Totally agree with you Ted. Haven’t caught a fish with a wallet, yet…….
  20. John Try stencils (clear plastic) for lateral lines and spots. Careful you don
  21. One problem with using the toaster oven for pre-heating is once they are heated up you still have to handle them with forceps or pliers. Don’t drop the jig. And if you are hanging them to heat up - that’s twice you will have to hang them. Not to mention you will be opening and closing the door constantly – turning the oven off and on. I place a jig in the hemostats and heat it over a heat gun, sprinkle paint on (hardly ever use a fluid bed – almost all my jigs are multi colored), clean the eye of the hook, and then hang in the oven to cure. It’s all about personal preference. I don’t do this for money so I can afford to take my time.
