  1. Finlander, Ran across the same problem with the pyrex cup. When I did it I had heated up some old plastic and was planning on "thinning" it out with some liquid plastic. After I added the liquid with the hot old plastic, placed the pyrex back into the microwave, and the thing popped. What a mess. Now I heat the old stuff up till it's ready to pour - then I add the liquid in the center of the heated plastic and stir till it starts clumping up and then put it back into the microwave and heat it up again till it's ready to pour.
  2. Congratulations Rich - good job.
  3. If the guy specifically states that you can mix it with powder paint it?s probably worth a shot. Haven?t tried glow in the dark colors but have mixed different Manufacturers paint and come up with some nice custom colors. Some of the prices for powder paint on ebay aren't necessarily the best prices.

    Fluid Bed?

Sure, it's not doing any good sitting on the shelf. Have two extra cups that go with it and I had to add an insert to the compression fitting that the air hose is attached to on the cup. The fitting that came on mine is used for hard tubing - was leaking when I got it. If I had the time/energy could probably build a "better mouse trap". Tried using it twice with some powder paint that I was having trouble with (clumping). Talked with CSI and they told me that it was probably because of high humidity - so I gave up on the fluid bed. Tried mixing my problem paint with pro-tech paint and it seems to work ok. I think its a formulation thing... If you're interested - can include some micro mesh material that you could use to make some additional cups. Its not the same medium that CSI uses - we use the mesh for spray drying pharmaceuticals (converting a liquid to powder). Send me a PM.
  5. You guys are making this too easy - very clean and surfer friendly. Thanx
  6. gatightlines, Had the same issues you had but I was getting pockmarks as well. Had to call LC and they recommended the heating up the molds in the same manner that WallsOut has described. I agree with SRPLASTICS - you should be able to get good baits with the first pour. SRPLASTICS, Has the "the new mold material" happened yet? Hate to go back to your old post and muddle through the mush. Appreciate your help.

    Fluid Bed?

You can order the fluid beds direct from CSI. Check out the posts in regards to fluid beds before you get one. Wish I had - got the cup model and haven't really used it.

CJ I've had problems before with sending PMs - think it's because I don't log off. Sorry about that. Anyway, was on the Conquest out of Fisherman's - Coronados was a parking lot. Do you throw the spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in SD Bay? Big Splash Still no package????? Argh. The price you pay for your bit of heaven.

Awesome pics JIM, thanx. Did you hear from Nitro?
  15. Purchased a Kistler rod (KCRMH7) through eAngler and use it for inshore fishing. In one day fishing (8AM to 1 PM) caught 6 Sierra to 15 lbs., 8 Roosters to 25 lbs., 1 pargo (dog tooth snapper) to 6 lbs., and 4 Jacks to 8 lbs. all on the Kistler rod - Shimano Stradic with 12lb Yo-Zuri line. Missed a bunch of fish - but it wasn't the Rods fault....... Looking to get 2 more of these rods - very impressive.
  16. Been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid (mostly smoke color) for Bluewater, Inshore, and Estuary fishing and have been very impressed. Was told at the Fred Hall show, from a Rep, that smoke isn't a popular West Coast color. Thought that was odd because that's what I like to use..

  18. Going on a limited - company trip. It's tuna time... What's your #1 color for iron? Have you tried powder painting on iron?
  19. Looks like a "keeper" JIM
  20. Cj, Good luck on your tourny, hope you slay with your new lures..... Hookn' up sounds good - maybe some bluegill at Perris. Will be at the Coronados on the 22nd.
  21. Hola JIM, Are we there yet??? Like a kid waiting for Xmas....
  22. CJ I'm back and Costa Rica rocks! Got some toady Sierras to 6 kg.s and Roosters to 11 kg.s. Brutegill, I mean the BIG bluegill are hitting at Lake Perris. Have a couple of extra tubes of high temp RTV if your'e interested. Max working temp is 500 F / 260 C. Got a hold of some stuff that they call "wiping solder" from a lineman friend. PM'd with Richoc and determined it is probably a 60/40 lead/tin. Melted it down to ingots and it looks like its perfect for the "iron". Not too soft so you won't be knocking off the paint. Oh noo, not another LedHed........................
  23. Dayooper, Have had the same issues with Color-rite paint as well. Have found by mixing pro-tech clear (or other pro-tech colors) up to a 50/50 mix (depending on effect) helps alleviate the clumping and that helps with the even coating. Also, instead of dipping, the shaker method (mentioned in the Powder Painting tutorial) will help. I use an industrial heat gun, that has temperature control, to pre-heat and reheat jigs (for two tone painting or adding a clear coat). Usually set the temp between 300 and 325, heats the jig enough for the paint to stick and easy enough to clean the eyes. Then the jig goes into the toaster oven to cure at the normal cure temp for a minimum of 25 minutes. Works on jigs up to 2 oz.
  24. I use a heavy duty heat gun that has temperature settings on it to pre heat my jigs and re-heat jigs to do two tone paints. Usually set it for 300 to 325 (depending on jig size) - heat the jig up (I use a small pair of vise grips to hold the jig) and dip in the fluffed powder. The setting is lower then the usual remmended temp, but it heats the jig enough to get the powder to adhere in an even coat. It makes it alot easier to clean the eye. Then it goes into the toaster oven to cure at recommended temp and minimum 25 minutes. This works for jigs up to 2oz.
  25. Check out columbiacoatings.com. Toll free number is 866 388 7730. Lot of colors and special effects....... 8oz goes from $9.99 to $12.99 (that's about $1.25 to $1.64 an oz).
