  1. I was figuring on bending about a 30-45 deg bend in a kahle hook to produce a wide gap jig hook .
  2. Just had a thought that maybe I could heat and bend an existing hook style to fit my needs but the times I have tried the hook turned brittle after heating . Anyone tried this with better results? I suppose I need to perfect the tempering process to make this work?
  3. I emailed mustad but have yet to get a response. Has anyone checked into this before as far as how much additional cost it will be for some custom made hooks?
  4. Though I have no intention of selling any of the lures I'm making out of the Calhouns equivelent plastic I bought from "Tubeman" but after reading up some more on the Cyber-flexxx products I read that "Z-man fishing products" has exclusive rights to the manufacture and sale of lures made of this stuff. I checked out the patent numbers on a package of Cyber-flexxx baits and all a search yielded was patents on the plastic formulation. I believe you can get a patent on a manufacturing process (making worms out of this stuff?) but found nothing relating to this in my search . Could the exclusive rights between Z-man products and the chemical company making the Cyber-flexxx plastic only be for an agreement not to sell its plastic to other lure manufacturers? Thanks,Jigmeister
  5. I was looking around on the internet and found all kinds of powdered pigments in basic colors and pearlized colors that looked like it might work . Will pearlescent powders for worm pouring work with the super plastic formula? Thanks- Ken
  6. Apparently some who have purchased and tried it don't care for it or they wouldn't be selling it off ? I have a particular lure design in mind and if the Calhouns version is similar to the "Cyberflexxx" it should be perfect . Anyone who's already tried the Calhouns have any comments good ,bad, or indifferent ?
  7. Good looking worm in a great color! I think the name "needle worm " is already in use by V&M lures though ...........
  8. I know delw was working on stocking/selling some version of a "super plastic" from "Calhoun" plastics but had some pouring /coloring issues he was working on . Anyone else out there have any scoop on the availabilty of a similar type plastic ? From some info I found online the Cyber flexxx plastic requires some specialized injection molding process to make it work . Thanks -Jigmeister
  9. A crawfish's shell is made up of calcium salts so that could account for a salty taste to the fish . I'm sure most anglers can remember catching a fish that started bleeding from the gills with no visable hook wounds to the gill area. (its a very fragile area for any fish ) A feeding bass can really unload on prey when they hit so I'm sure they could cause enough trauma to a baitfish or crayfish to start some bleeding even without big teeth .........
  10. There was article in Bassmaster magazine about a pro angler that started using duct tape to color his blades when he couldn't find any white blades locally for his spinnerbaits . If you look you can find duct tape in white, chartreuse, and orange. This guy said the tape allows you to change blade colors to match the conditions easier but also claimed it stayed on the blades better than paint does. I haven't tried it yet but it might be worth a shot......... Jigmeister
  11. Like previous posters have stated this stuff works great for both lead and soft plastic molds . All the moisture must be baked out before pouring hot lead though (or a hot lead explosion can result ). I had a mold crack once when I baked it using a heat lamp and I think one part of the mold was hotter than the rest resulting in some expansion stresses. Either using an oven or a lower wattage bulb to keep temps even would be best. I made up a three part mold for a Mad Man craw copy that is perfect.
