Hi Guys, I been pouring plastic lures for about 3 years now and enjoy reading this web site, ya'll helped me out many times. I live 40 miles northwest of the city of New Orleans along the the east bank of the Mississippi River. On Aug. 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina roared through southeast Louisiana. I am glad to say my family and property came through to ordeal without a scratch. Most of ya'll heard and seen pictures on TV and the internet. I am writing tonight to tell ya'll the impact of the hurricane did to the fishing in the area. Many if not all the canals, rivers, and bayous that flow into Lake Maurepas and Lake Pontchartrain are reporting fish kills both on the north and south shores of the lakes. Lake DesAllemands this is where Davy Hite won his New Orleans Classic has a fairly large fish kill in the lake. The Gibson, Bayou Black area is where Kevin VanDam fish for his classic win, I haven't gotten any info on this area. The Venice area where Mike Iaconelli won his classic, not just a fish kill but flood water for the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River destroyed the town. Now for some good news the Atchafalaya Basin where the FLW held a fall tournament last fall has no report of any fish kills. Good Fishing to everyone, Deep South

I've seen pictures posted of a beaver plastic bait. Where can I find a mold of the beaver tail bait and what length are the baits.

Crittercraw I tried this recipe and the color was very close. Maybe you can add a little more flruorescent red. 1 ounce of plastic 4 drops of L C flruorescent red 4 drops of L C flruorescent orange Try to keep your coloring to 8 to 10 drops per ounce You have to add flruorscent coloring into the plastic before it is heated. I found it came out a little on the orange side while Zoom's is a little more red, but I had some old Zoom trick worms I was comparing them to and don't know if the Zoom color faded.

Charlie I been pouring for 2 years now. I do it the old fashion way. 1 Electric hot plate. 2 Stainless Steel pouring pots. 3 Myself and friends

Is Lurecraft fluorescent colors transparent or opaque? Do you have to put the fluorescent coloring into the plastic before you heat it up? How much colorng do you have to put into the plastic to get a good color?

I am looking for a recipe for Methylate. I tried Lure Craft coloring and I find it is too ligt and it bleeds into other colors.
-
I made some two color grubs a few months back. LC Green Chartreuse and LC Methylate. I wanted to use them again recently and I notice the Green Chartreuse had faded badly. I am wondering if the Green Chartreuse faded or the Methylate bleed into the Chartruese.

If you are looking for a scent to apply on your plastic after your pour them try this Carolina Lunker Sauce. Web site www.lunkersauce. com or 1-800-242-1671. They have four scents, Garlic, Crawfish, Threadfin Shad, Menhaden Shad. The garlic is very stong.

basskat I used Lure Craft 502 and switiching to Calhoun. Do you find Calhoun harder, softer, or the same density as Lure Craft.
-
I bought a gallon of Calhoun plastic a few months ago. I just opened it up this week and was surprise to see the liquid seperated into two parts. I used a paint mixer on a drill motor to mix the plastic. I also noticed there wasn't any hard plastic that settled to the bottom. I am also a first time user of Calhoun plastic and it seeems the plastic is softer than the plastic I been using.

bigbasser Go to sticky and find the post "Not exact to Red Shad but works". I used this color my last five fishing trips with great success. I made some stick worms and fish it wacky style, placing the hook in the middle of the worm.

Not exact to Red Shad but works 2 oz. Plastic 3 drops LC Strawberry 1 Drop LC Raspberry 1/4 teaspoon Red Glitter .015" 1/16 teaspoon Green Glitter .008" 1/8 teaspoon LC Pearl Amber

Basskat The color is not exact copy of Red Shad. I been trying to fine a color close to Red Shad. I made this color and poured some stick worms. I used it for two weekend on two differnet bodies of water with very good success. You can try a two color pour with Black the second color.

Try this for a Red Shad 2 oz. Plastic 3 drops LC Strawberry 1 drop LC Raspberry 1/4 teaspoon Red Glitter .015" 1/16 teaspoon Green Glitter .008" 1/8 teaspoon LC Pearl Amber

Pit Bass Are you using any softner with the Calhoun plastic? Try using the back side of the siding instead of the grain side or a smooth piece of plastic or maybe a piece of glass. I bought some Calhoun plastic but never used it yet. I let the LC plastic air cool without any problem. After you poured your plastic lure your can place them in water, once they cooled to room temperture you can take them out.

What kind of resin do you use to make your own molds
Deep South replied to Delta Boss's topic in Soft Plastics
I use fiber glass resin. You can find quart size containers of fiberglass resin at your local hardware store, marine dealer or Wal-mart , Home Depot. -
Lane, I told you we were on the right track. Electric Blue should be here in the beginning of the week. Deep South

Big Splash can you give me more information on bar top epoxy. Thanks
-
I started pouring my own spinnerbaits, buzz baits, and bass jigs for about 6 mounths. I had trouble with paint staying on the lead head so I tried this. Went to Walmart got a tube of the quick set 2 part epoxy. Got a pack of cheap throw away craft paint brushs from the carft department. Have your lead head cleaned from burs, etc. Mix expoxy and brush on bait lead head. Work fast epoxy set quick. After epoxy dries use a bursh on enamel paint , color of your choise. I tried spray enamel paint but with the paint thinner I find it chips off easier.

Thanks pop I give that a try.
