Chris,
I find that you have way more control dipping horizontal.Easy to make more than one color,and the tail will be thinner than the head.I prefer to make my tubes with a thinner wall than most,but you can make them to a point that they are too thick to fish well.You have to cool the tube down,then dip again.Easy!
