  1. Do a search on this topic as we have talked about it before. Baking in the oven at looooooow temp I believe was one solution. Using WD-40 to re-condition the molds was another suggested from LC. Might be more out there though... Jim
  2. Use jim@ghostbaits.com Be glad to give it a try! Jim
  3. A 2 piece plaster mold would not be that difficult at all. If the bait has an insert or lead weight, that "ups the anty" a bit but still does not make things impossible. Plaster is cheap and can be something to play with. My plaster molds have held up to 1000's of pours. I like doing molds tht are a challenge out of plaster of paris so if all fails, drop me a note. Never charge anything just like to try different baits to learn.... Jim
  4. Bondo resin for sure. I have used this to mold plenty of times before. You can buy it at Walmart, automotive stores and craft stores. Jim
  5. Contact Bob @ www.bobstackleshack.com or Del @ www.del-mart.com. Wait for a custom mold might be looooong. Price might be a little more than you want to pay but the aluminum mold will last forever. As stated, you may be able to make your own!!! Jim
  6. Working on getting everything together. I'll add pictures, tips, etc. Might get it completed today if "real" work slows down a bit!!! Jim
  7. Won't be long!!!!!! The one grub is extremely easy to mold, just has a flat pointed tail straight off the body. I never fish grubs but I think they call it a stingray grub. A single vent point at the end of the tail and that mold is set. Might do a full 10 cavity on that one right out of the gate. The other 2 have the classic large, thin tails. Molded one today and planned my venting points carefully. We will see on Friday after the molds are sealed if it pours with the mold closed. I have added a hole through the mold to help vent points in the tail. Pics of mold to follow (along with the clear, silver and black flake grubs!!!). Jim
  8. I always start with plaster of paris for my molds. It is CHEAP and easy to work with to get a prototype bait. The molds last surprisingly long (unless dropped!!!) and produce a very finished product. Jim
  9. Seems that post is gone Dave. Here is a 2 piece out of pop that works 100% of the time with super soft, regular and even saltwater plastic. Venting was accomplished with coffee stirring straws. There is some trim on the tail as the vents fill slightly. Not much though. The vent at the end of the tail is vital as that is where the air will push to and not fill. The bait is a finesse bait that is only 4" in length. Not much plastic is used. I am getting ready to do 4 different styles of grubs in a 2 piece so I will be glad to pass along any info WHEN I am succesful on these. (Another $50 coming my way when I get these done!!! New reel is on the horizon as I still have the other $50 ) Jim
  10. Rest assured, Bob is going to come out ahead. Just hang in there for a few weeks!!!! Jim
  11. Very true on the originals. You can't get caught up if the design is yours. Patent infringement and copyright infringement are 2 very different things. Both require different paperwork, etc to acquire and defend if infringed. Again, if you have any concerns, seek a professional to be sure as there is a lot of misinformation regarding these topics and I have spent some hard earned cash to find out many of the differences and the truths. Good luck!!!! PS A cursory search of the bait you speak of shows no patent associated with the design however there still may be a design patent on a portion of the bait such as Zoom has with the "claws" on the Speed Craw and other baits. Jim
  12. WOW! Most impressive and well thought out! How easy is it to replace a pot should one "kick" the bucket? I think there would be a nice market for a single station and multiple stations as shown. Guess I can take a number!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim
  13. I have experienced that same issue as well as with another color I used yellow in. I believe the yellow does not disperse as well as the other colors and needs that extra stirring to blend well with the red. Just an assumption.... Jim
  14. Lots of info on this if you do a search on patents in the soft plastics area. Short answer is, we are not patent lawyers so the answers you get are going to be from lots of research and some opinion. From your details, I would say you will not have an issue with infringement. There may not even be a patent of any type on the bait you speak of. If you want to be guaranteed, pay $300- $600 to have a patent search done and be sure. I can give you a contact name of a TU member that has patents and search patents. He is very proficient in the fishing area of patent searches. I have used him in the past with satisfaction. Jim

    My new softbait.

Awesome job!!! How well do they hold up to the toothy critters? Jim
  16. Here is the bait Bob came up with for me. The claws are the exact same as I had the other mold at one time.... The baits seem to be the exact ones Bob had the mold for on his site. I haven't bought any from YUM though to compare to mine from the mold I once had. Jim
  17. GMAN: Be glad to send you an email with steps. It would be off the top of my head but I make several pop molds every week. I think I can spit it our pretty consise but detailed enough for you to make things work. What type of bait are you considering molding in 2 piece? Jim
  18. Joe.... Use coffee straws for the venting. Seems the wider vents work best for the tail. Extra benefit is that the heat escapes real well and the mold does not get hot fast!! Jim
  19. One like this? Made one on a bet just recently. Buddy told me I could not make it and pour from the top and have the tail fill. That was a quick $50!!!! He had an alternate motive though as he uses those baits all the time!!! This is an exact replica... Mold is easy to make, just be sure to vent it well as pictured. Jim
  20. True story!! Hope nobody tries to sell these! I have heard YUM is looking for the "other" molds!!! Tried to buy some from Bob not to long ago and we had to come up with something different. I think he had a hand in the baits and did OK. Jim
  21. You have secured your first vote!!! Maybe your first two votes as I saw my wife was modeling for your campaign as well... LOL!!! Cool deal!!!! One Sock for Pres!!! Jim
  22. Its not on my site. Secret weapon!!! Drop me your address and I'd be glad to send you some. They are about 7" long I believe... jim@ghostbaits.com Jim
  23. Ozark Plastics also carries them. I bought mine from Johnson but if I remember right, you have to spring for a case. Laminate bags are more but if the angler keeps your baits for anytime in their boat or outside, they will pay off for you. Anything less than laminate will allow moisture into the bags and to alter the softness of the baits. If the baits contain salt, they will essentially be ruined. I tested all types of 3 mil and 4 mil bags out down here in South GA (100% humidity almost all summer) and had the same results...moisture in the bags. Spend a couple extra bucks and go with laminate. You will not regret it! Jim
  24. Yeah, Machinist was the guy that we all bought from I believe. I was working on a snake mold with him and then...poof.. he was gone.... Makes me glad we have Del and Bob.... Jim
