  1. $60+ for four soft plastic baits.... Not this kid!!! You MIGHT get 8 fish... I remember the chatterbaits going for $75 each.... I get the concept but still don't see the benefit to the angler. My guess is if a solid bait with a hook slot had started this craze ( like the Silly Rabbit), that would be the bait selling for $60/4 baits..... In talking with a lot of tournament and casual anglers out on the water, baits in the 5", maybe 6" size might make an impact in the South East USA. Most are very skeptical of tube type baits down here as tubes are really not used much except for flipping/bed fishing and a tube is known to be a 1 bait-1 fish offering. I guess time will tell on these and I give credit to the individual's that figured out how to make them as they have given us much food for thought and another tool in the boat!! Jim
  2. Infamous is more like it!! I am far from the FAMOUS status of TU guys like Matt (Matts Lures) and Nathan (Bettencourtbaits). Their baits are around the world catching monster fish everywhere!!! Again, this forum inspires and propels so many ideas and concepts, any accolades are as a direct result of TU and it's members. Jim
  3. It did crank things up quite a bit!! Emails, phone calls (mostly West coast guys at night:eek: which is hard on us East coast dudes), and orders... I am "swamped" SWAMP... no pun intended!!! Crazy how your hobby can consume your life.. Right Chris;)!! All the press has been good and I hope to use my short moment in the sun to direct more interest on all the other great hand pourers out there and our craft. We all have unique and interesting things we do with plastic, glitter and a few colors. PS I'll be starting an "Expand the dog house" fund soon as the wife and kid's are probably moving my stuff out of the house as we speak. I know they have thrown my cell phone out for sure!!!
  4. Same here Richard and that gets "borrowed" by my fishing buddies all the time!!! Time for some old fashion, strategically placed mouse traps!!!!! Jim
  5. The tube baits hold up surprisingly well. I was thinking "Website Updates in Progress" Richard... Only problem is then your phone and email will blow up!!!
  6. Hookset for sure, flexibility maybe but float I have to take a slight issue with as most are rigging them with a weighted hook!!!??? Can't float lead well. Maybe if the tube bait is rigged with a regular hook there will be a slight advantage. Both baits run well near the surface with just a slow retrieval speed. I have fished both types now and see no real advantage to the tube bait except the hookset. That being said, the fish really seem to eat these baits well and hooking the fish seems not to be a big deal so far. Plus the hook slot allows the bait to collapse well and the hook to be exposed quickly into the fish. Certainly there is a market for both styles and I see the tube style selling for upwards of $60/four baits so there must be something to them, right??!! Jim
  7. I have Richard and still am wondering what the big deal is with the tube baits. I have caught fish equally on both and the action is comparable or better witht eh solid bait, so I am wondering...Is the tube swimbait the next chatterbait?? Here today because some tournies were won, gone tomorrow... I guess we will see but I am willing to bet my money on the swim bait with the hook slot and solid body over the long haul. Of course, my 2 cents are worth just that!!! Jim
  8. I'll see what I can do on the magazine mention guys. I have ordered some of the single page reprints and they are due in soon!!! Jim
  9. Sure thing Mike. I have learned a little something on those. o ahead and glue them on with super glue but check them after a day or 2. A lot of the eyes will be loose or falling off from a film that forms between the plastic and the sticky residue of the eyes. Wipe that slime off and re-glue. They will never come off again!!! Wish I could find the eyes that are NOT sticky on the back!!!! Jim
  10. Did this one in a shad to see how the fish like it... They will get a good look tomorrow... Jim
  11. I think Swamp is on this one!! Looks like a junebug type color (indigo) with maybe a drop or 2 of electric blue to taste. Candy always means purple flake to me so I would go with medium fuschia from SenkoSam and some tiny green.. Looks a lot like the Bass Bug color they also have. Jim Of course, a little extra heat Nil and it will be blue flake!!!
  12. Nice!! Are you doing those in-house or farming the job out? Seem like a big PITA to me as I am all thumbs with a paint gun!!! Jim
  13. Thanks again all!!! The guy that fished them for the review said they caught 50 fish on 10 frogs during the trip on Lake Havasu. The glue was out to try to put more back together!!! One of the best things I have learned from TU is that persistence pays off. Keep pushing the envelope and trying different things, one day...somebody will notice. I hope to be able to give back a 10th of what I have learned on this board! Thank you all again!!! Jim
  14. Thanks Nathan!!!! Not very many times you get to toot your horn!!! I learned EVERYTHING about hand pouring from this forum and it's members!! It is a salute to TU when any of us "little guys" gets noticed or gets press... Thanks TU members Jim
  15. WOW!!!! Seems like a little overkill to me as I only rock my 5 gallon back and forth about 3 times and then get after it. I guess if it set for a long time but M-F does not seperate much (if at all) from one day to the next... Maybe things have changed with their plastic but for the past several years, I have only just rocked.....and rolled!!!! Are you sure the ball bearings were clean?? I can't figure out the color changing....Hmmmm Let us know as I will be interested if your baits are the same as usual... Jim
  16. Plain junebug/red is working down in FL in these. Just had a guy catch a 9.06 this weekend.. Working on pics... Javier is the man with the wicked colors for sure!!! Jim
  17. If adjusted properly, the bait should fall (slowly) to the ground when you press the thumb bar. If not, the spool tension knob is to tight. Or other problems as previously mentioned. For the money, the Shimano Scorpion 1000/1001 is the reel to buy. Nothing compares in my book! Jim
  18. Good call on the cup size, especially if you just have a few molds. You can go through 1 cup easier and the spout is much easier to pour out of when starting out. Pyrex or anchor are both good for the mic. Jim
  19. Does water fill teh inside of the bait? Seems you have a hole in the back and a hole for a hook so it would be easy for water to displace the air inside the bait... Just curious... Jim
  20. He is around but super busy with life. He may have grown tired of the posts on forums like the previous ones from a certain member and decided to just not participate anymore... One can ruin it for all!!!! Jim

    A's Magic

Seriously good my man!!!!!!!! That is smallie food for sure!!! Jim
  23. May have to have Del jump in here but I seem to remember if you overheat and cool the 2 piece molds excessively and repeatedly, they could warp a bit. I may be way off on that as my memory may be (OK is) fading. Just hate to see that expensive mold become a paper weight!! Jim
