For bottom "creeping", I think you would need something similar to this for your hook and line tie.... Also, you are going to need some weight added to your bait for fishing lower in the water column. The swim baits I have fished and made mostly will rise in the water unless weighted well. Probably from the large tails... Jim

Pete.... The California Babe e baits are $7.95 and $9.95 respectively. They are on the LOW end for bass swim baits!!! I could sell them for $5 all day long and still make a buck or 2. I just want to be sure i can make a bait that will last a little while for myself and others... Jim PS The mold is based off of those Babe e baits...

I have Dennis and they seem to cook out real fast. I am not a big garlic fan anyway so you might want to get the skinny from a few others. The rule of thumb is though, look for water in the ingredients, if it is there... AVOID THAT PRODUCT!! Adding anything to your hot plastic that contains water will make your plastic bubble, pop and maybe splatter all over U!!! Jim

Chuck, Here is a Babe e swim bait. You can see the insert pretty good in the photo. Basically, the molds that have been made for hand pouring these are identical to these baits in a 5" version. An aluminum insert would be idea as the lead and plastic will eventually interact and ruin the bait. I would hope though that the bait would be destroyed by a big bass prior to that!!!!!! Jim

Hey Shawn.... I guess I can speak out on this as I have been using Upper Hand scents from day one. I use about 10 drops (I really don't measure though, just pour a little in from the bottle). Just be sure to let Doug know you want it for IN your plastic as the type for ON your plastic is different!!! I also sell HAWG Sauce on my site and it is a great add on item. The Hawg 'N' Garlic is tough to beat in my book!!!!!!! Jim

I am considering the Chub e and another swim bait mold however the cost of the inserts are high. At $2.00 or a little less, they add to the price of making the bait significantly. I have priced Mojo weights and they are significantly less however the knock on the weights is that they come loose from the bait after a short period of time and render the bait useless. Most swim bait anglers will not pay for the baits with mojos in them now. So what is everyone considering? I would like to have one of these molds but at $150+ per cavity, even for just my fishing, the mold is hard to justify. I'd like to sell a few to offset the cost but with the insert + hook + split ring + packaging and the plastic... Your cost will be at least $2.75 just to make. Steep even for yourself. A 5" bait will not really weed out the smaller fish so some will be ruined by 2lb fish... Any ideas out there? Jim

I talked (email) with Chris also. He'll be around!! As Nova said, when pouring impacts your family time and your real business, time to step back. Chris was the inspiration for me to start pouring years ago and he helped me more than he knows. I am sure he will never completely give pouring up as it is in his blood! As good as he was, no wonder he hardly had time to do anything else!!! Jim

I have had Bob's frog mold from the beginning and NEVER have had a partial frog come out EXCEPT when the molds first came out and the venting was not sufficient. you must have an older frog mold as the new ones pour at low temps easily. Bob will vent an older mold if you send it back... Just let him know. Turn around time was a week or less. Jim

I would contact Del and see if he can cut you a few vents or, if you are brave enough, you can use a hack saw and cut small vents yourself. The paddle tail molds that Del have needed vents and the hacksaw did the job easily!! Jim

Are the molds just as the Basstrix bait? Tube style? I know I will be watching for those!! Jim

Are you using salt in the baits? I used the molds a while back and had no issues with the feet filling. Check to be sure the legs have vents cut for air to be displaced. Possible but doubtful that the vents were not cut. Some of the real old frogs Bob made did not have vents and poured so-so. A quick ship back took care of that. Might want to post a picture of the inside of the mold and for sure talk with Del about the issues. Jim PS I bet Del can cut the vents in with no issues as Bob does... Give him a call...

Here you go.... looks like a couple of drops of white, medium black flake, small blue flake. I guess there may be some (very little) purple hi-light powder because I can't figure out the 'violet" part of the bait...

Are those buzz frogs or horny toads? Just curious as the horny toads you must pour the legs first, then close the mold and pour the body. Buss frogs should pour easily as the mold is vented well. Jim

The one variable in all of this equation that no one can control is speed of the bait. If I retreive at a very fast speed, I can make almost any buzzbait track to the right or left. At moderate speed, some still track. At slow speeds, many will come back relatively straight. Guess you will have to put speed-o-meter on my reel when all this gets resolved at my burner reels do not know the meaning of slooow retreive!!! More food for thought!! Jim

Out of my element a little here also guys but I have thrown almost every buzzbait out there (except a Hillbilly one...couldn't find one ) and I have yet to find one that doesn't run to one side or the other. I also have never seen a bait fish run perfectly straight either. Counter rotating blades are the only way to get one to run perfectly straight that I have found. Besides, I think the "sqeak" is way more important than the way the bait tracks. Gotta get confirmation from the Hillbilly though on that to be sure it is right !! LMAO.... Have you guys seen the Aliens fishing for Humans video? Funny!! I can't seem to upload it though, it keeps failing... I know I have set the hook on a fish and it fly out of the water and hit my non-boater before... Laughed the whole rest of the day!!! Caught the same fish with my non-boater before also. I have ground up fish scales before. Don't recommend that. It ends up a burned mess and very hard to dry well. Best thing I have added is powdered scent from Upper Hand Scents. It was like adding salt almost but scented. Worked great but discolored the plastic really bad. Eveything was brown or a shade of brown. SOCK... The video is a seriously funny idea but the PITA people will be on you if it appears you harmed a fish (or bait)... I'd pay for video like that though!!!
