Dave....If you are pouring from a 1 cup pyrex cup, try this... Go to wally world and get one of the Anchor Hocking measuring cups in a 1 cup volume. The stream that comes from them is much smaller and allows me to pour into any small area on any mold I have. Take a look in the photo area at all the bass8baits hand pours. Javier only uses the anchor hocking cups to pour. I find that they keep the plastic heated a little longer and are just easier to work with. I do pour out of the 1 cup pyrex when I have to have 8oz of plastic...Anything less than that and I am using the others. Like the others said, we all went through the overpour phase. If you pour enough, you will have minimal trimming to do...practice..practice...practice.. Jim BTW...your package will go out tomorrow or on Wednesday....

Bubble issue with Calhoun's plastisol...Post here...
GB GONE replied to GB GONE's topic in Soft Plastics
Hate to say it Fool but you are completely wrong!!! I have had a chemist analyze my stuff...there is NO moisture in it at all!!! I've seen the huge bubbles from water, that is not what we are talking about!! My M-F and Loes plastisol sits right next to the Calhoun's....NOT ONE BUBBLE IN EITHER....EVER!!!! It is the plastisol!!! It has been admitted that Calhoun's knows there is a problem..(previous posts from Del...) I believe snipp had it right...the plastic seal on the 5 gallon buckets has been broken down by the plastisol and is contaminating our 5 gallon buckets.... Science gets to the heart of it...NO MOISTURE AT ALL!!! Jim PS I don't use any salt in 99.9% of my baits!!! -
Good point brought up by Pop...You may not need salt in your sticks at all..A nice #5 wide gap will sink most 5" sticks well and the wiggle is even more dramatic without the salt to harden up the bait. I routinely do not use salt for ease of pouring, slower fall rate and a more durable bait. Plus, if you do add salt, your color formulas are altered from the way you pour your other baits. The salt will require more colorant for sure... Just something to think about... Jim

I graduated from Illinois State ( a few years ago)...We used to venture down to SIU for the great Halloween parties!!! Also, my roomate was from Pekin and I have fished that lake...WOW!!! It was great years ago!!! Jim

DJ.... You can try this also... Tail unsalted and the body salted... This gives a "senko-like" fall to the bait with the tail fluttering better... Seem to work real well wacky rigged and give something the fish haven't seen before!!!! Jim

Ditto!!!! The 2-3 drops of white will really make the pearl stand out... It calls them in!!! Jim

Hey Jigs... If you are pouring big baits, then 3-4 may be normal but it sounds like you are not getting your plastisol hot enough. Try heating 2 minutes, then check your plastisol. If there is still a cloudiness to it, try another 15-30 seconds. Then add your color (some add color prior to heating as M-F recommends on their coloring products or at the 2 minute mark), scent and flake... Stir and nuke for another 15-20 seconds... I think the 2 drops per oz is just a guideline to start when working on a color. That gives you an idea of what it would look like and you can darken as you go. You can always go darker but can't go back... For black, I need about 6 drops per oz. A SMART friend of mine, Joel, from bigpig lures, taught me to add my coloring when the plastic is still gelled. You get WAY better coloring, in my opinion, that way. Some bubbles are inherent to the microwave process. They should be few in number and cook out of your plastic before pouring. Calhoun's has had a problem with bubbles (see other posts on this forum) that is well documented. M-F, Loes (new plastisol coming soon to market for LESS $$$), and Lurecraft have minimal bubbles, IF any at all!!! Try cooking you plastic a little longer and I think you may get rid of some of your issues... Jim

Now you have done it !!!!!! This is a great discussion point that ends up being based on personal experience and the confidence you need to have in your baits you are fishing!!! I routinely fish UNSALTED senkos on a c-rig and catch fish all day long... All my other baits is fish are completely salt free and catch fish.... To me, it all goes back to a wise statement I heard when talking to Davy Hite..."It is really NOT the bait that catches the fish, it is the ANGLER on the other end of the line." The right angler can catch a fish with just about any bait where the beginner may not be able to catch anything with the latest "super bait" out there... I know many will just add "salt to taste" as it is a primary taste in blood however I have never been able to run a trial where the salted vs unsalted bait have rose above the other. I'm sure there will be many that swear by salt and many that say it is necessary...but then the discussion comes right back to your original question....To catch fish OR fishermen.... PS Kim is right about the bouyancy of the baits...My unsalted baits will literally float up off the bottom where salted baits sink. I think that gives that bait a much bigger chance of being eaten in the first place.. Jim

Can't wait to see them... PS..where in IL are you from. I grew up in Momence (around Kankakee) and have family still in Wheaton, Schamburg and Palatine... Small world!!! Jim

D.J.: I'm not salting mine right now as it is hard to get down into that tail with salted plastic. You can pour the tail and then close the mold but it is a pain... Most of the guys (including me) are fishing these things t-rigged with a pegged sinker or ds...both of which salt may take away from the action... Jim

Bubble issue with Calhoun's plastisol...Post here...
GB GONE replied to GB GONE's topic in Soft Plastics
Ok...there are WAY more than 2 or 4 with issues....To bad we don't have an association (refer to the Docks section)!!! We would have a leg to stand on then!!! This way, we are all just waiting for something that probably is not going to be responded to... Jim -
Indigo from M-F has a blueish tint to it as well....Forgot about recommending that... Glad you got to where you were trying to go.... Jim

I use a lot of flake/glitter from the craft stores. They have an incredible line of fine (0.008) and ultra fine (0.002) colors. There are 68 colors at my local micheal's and I have tried many of them for some great changes on classic colors.... They also stock the silver and gold hologram.... Small flake has become a staple for me when I am doing a lot of colors like junebug, watermelon red, etc. where you really are looking for good flake coverage.. Jim

Just another thought on the web address...most not for profits go with a .org.... It will open up more possibilities but the previous mentioned addresses are all good. I'm racking my brain for a mission/vision as I participate on a committee at our hospital that had to do this exact task a few months back. WOW...it was a very tedious process especially due to the "number of the cooks in the kitchen."!!!!!! Jim

Bubble issue with Calhoun's plastisol...Post here...

That is fine but what about our good $$$$$...I use old plastic to make prototypes etc. Peaves me to spend good money and get questionable goods. If there was a store close by, this would be a definite return item!!!! Jim -

Bubble issue with Calhoun's plastisol...Post here...
GB GONE replied to GB GONE's topic in Soft Plastics
This second post was added August 2nd and now it is August 26th....Has anybody heard anything from Del or Calhoun's about the issue??? I know Calhoun's was "looking into it". The previuos discussion on this was posted ever earlier than the 2nd!!!! Seems to me a group of chemists could easily figure out what chemical(s) are causing the problem. Just wondering if anything is going to ever come of it or will the issue just be left unresolved and die...I'm still wondering what to do with my 3 gallons of unacceptable product Jim -
WOW ......What if the posts from now on just included positive, constructive ideas to help push this forward...Is that to much to ask for??? Not that dissenting voices should be squashed but through positive energy much negative can be overcome... Maybe we should all think about this from a business aspect and forget all else for a minute...As was stated earlier, imagine the purchasing power that all would benefit from. I bet you would get those with dissenting voices on board if you could cut their costs by 20%.... Think about the advertising power a group like this could have as well. Many would be falling over each other for a banner or ad space on a website.. There is much to discuss and just as many negatives as positives may come out, that is what a discussion is for!!! But to belabor all the negatives and not give an idea a chance only dooms the individual not the whole group... Jim

Maybe all the swirled stuff hypnotizes the bass into swallowing your bait ...
-
Also remember this.... An association is a VOLUNTARY thing...If you don't think it is a good idea or have a gripe with what it stands for....don't join !!! Just like any other organization that is out there, some will believe in it, some won't!!! I can only see this discussion as a good thing even if an association does not go forward as there have already been some very solid points made.. Jim

Give me green pumpkin, watermelon red, and black or don't pour for me!!!!!!! Jim

Dave: Molds and plastisol (new plastic) coming your way this week + some baits to use in case you end up not having time to pour!!!! Do you need color...flake...?? Let me know and I'll throw some in also!!!! Jim
-
Tim....You hit the nail on the head buddy...these are made to catch fishermen, not necessarily fish.... A laminate bait makes more sense to me BUT some are trying to catch fishermen as with the Wave Tiki sticks.....

I have never spoken with the previous owner(s) of LC but have read the numerous discussions on the poor customer service. If you have not gone back to LC, you should give them a try again. DISCLAIMER: I own no stock, get no special discounts, etc. for my personal comments here..Just in case anybody was wondering .... I have spoken with Pour Boy's Woman a few times on the phone and it has been a pleasure. My orders have been shipped promptly, correctly , and the products have been top notch. The biggest thing that I still can not believe is that Kim is on our board actually asking for our opinions on products to stock!!!!!! I mean what a concept!!! Ask the customer what they want!!! Revolutionary!!! Seriously though.....That is customer service, that will get us all looking at what they are doing over there at LC now and that will help us be successful in our hobby/businesses!!! I appreciate the years of experience they are bringing to us here at TU and thank them!! Jim I did not mean to leave the other suppliers/manufacturers out...It is good to have all the others like Del, M-F, etc. on board also. Jsut have read so many negatives on LC in the past that I wanted to express my experiences of the past couple months....

Sounds like a winner to me. Is it going to be 2 sided??? Once you get a good prototype you can make several molds from the prototype baits... Jim
