I think Nathan is going down the right path....I have long thought about spearheading an association for hand pourers. If we don't do it, somebody will and I would rather have a say in my "hobbie's" destination than leaving it to another group. Ratings may alienate some but are just an arbitrary thing anyway...Most who are honest about their "hobby" and skills could be easily judged by their peers and put into categories. My father was a journeyman electrician and was proud to help the apprentices out!!! This didn't make him better than them just more experienced. I for one would be very interested and would devote some time as a volunteer to get things going from the soft plastics side... Jim

They are packaged in with the chemicals I receive.. This is an OSHA requirement and law (only if the chemical is potentially hazardous that is..) If you need one, let me know. I can scan mine and email it to you!!! Or you can google it and get one... Jim

m-f manufacturing-bubble help on the way.
GB GONE replied to M-F-manufacturing's topic in Soft Plastics
Saint: If you haven't already done it...SHAKE IT!!! Give it all you've got!!! You really don't need to mix it that long or really that hard but give it a go...you still will not see the bubbles in your cup.... I shake my 5 gallon container hard every time I get some out!!!! Jim -
I just mixed up the plaster of paris and gently pressed the bait down in...Refer to the tutorial on plaster molds. I don't use any type of release agent, just take the bait out after about 30 minutes but be gentle... Use auto high heat paint from Walmart to coat the cavity and wait at least 48 hours before you pour... A one sided version of this bait just really doesn't do it justice...I may try to mold a 2 sided IF I ever get time to get away from just pouring!!! Let me know if you do one!!! Jim
-
Dave....PM me also and include your address......I've got some stuff I can help you out with....molds, plastic, etc... I just have 2 yound kids and I am constantly saying...Pass the energy pills!!! Pouring will definitely help take you away for a while.... Jim

I have one in plaster as that is an AWESOME worm to throw!!! Give me a black red anyday!!!! It doesn't come out as good as the original bait as the big tail is not supprted well by the smaller worm body.... If you get one done, let me know and I will be a customer!!!!! Jim

Cpr.... I use grape and black grape in my Junebug to give it a little more kick. The grape seems to give it an almost purple/blue hilite look when the light hits it well in the water...Here is my junebug recipe: 8oz plastic 35 drops of black grape (LC), 12 drops of grape (M-F) and 5 drops of black (LC or M-F)....Of course, load it up with medium green flake...I like some medium red in mine to...good twist on the color... Starting with already colored plastisol makes it a little bit more difficult to get back to the original color but IMHO...junebug is junebug... You can add the above drops to your mixture but just go with the same ratio and start out by dividing the number of drops in half or fourth... Jim

Chris....this is like your green tomato color I think.... I did play around with it a bit and the tomato is correct for the orange red color...2 to 3 drops in 4oz is real close... The other color got me going though...I thought a light watermelon or lime green would get it but something was missing.... I was about to give up and went on to try some new colors I bought from M-F....Amber green was the first....Guess what color that makes....the whiskey color (light yellow green brown) that was real popular for a while and may be in some places still... Well, I added a 2 drops of watermelon brown to that and BINGO...the other color was there...So try this for the other color TJ... 4oz plastic 12 drops of amber green (M-F) and 2 drops of watermelon brown (M-F). In both colors, I added medium black flake (pinch) and small red flake (pinch) to match the original worm.... I will pour some 10" worms this weekend and see if I can get a good picture of them. The colors are very translucent so getting a good photo is tough. The whiskey color (amber brown) was so nice that I used it for some split tails for my weekend fishing plans!!!!! Should be a great producer in the clear water I'm heading to. Jim

Ditto that last comment...hex curls to easy with the heat... Jim

Bubble issue with Calhoun's plastisol...Post here...
GB GONE replied to GB GONE's topic in Soft Plastics
OK...I'll say what everybody is dancing around and maybe the reason some won't come forward.... If you complain, you think you might risk loosing one of the best sources of aluminum molds, colorant and worm oil, etc. there are. This has nothing to do with Del or his business. He is and has been great to deal with. I will continue to shop with Delw regardless of the plastisol issue. Jim -
I'll try to run a few worms myself tonight and see if I can give a real close recipe. If I can get it done, I'll post it in the sticky... Looks like it would be a good color to add on!!!! Jim
-
OK...I've got some of these worms. Chris from Al's worms pours this color I'm sure!!!! It is a light watermelon brown with medium black and small red on the bottom and tomato color (LC) medium black and small red on the belly.... The colors are completely translucent and from the top, the tomato looks more orange as the green affects the color... From the side you can see it pretty good though. Very hard to get a good picture of for sure!!!! I think I would start with just 2 drops of tomato (LC) in 4oz for the belly and the same of watermelon brown (M-F) in 4oz for the top...you might have to add a 1/2 drop (if you can) of pumpkinseed to the tomato as there might be a hint of brown there. I think the tomato might get you close enough though.... If I can go back in the cobwebs, I'm sure I remember a several bait styles in this color from Chris on EBay...Sure his are a lot better fish getters as these worms are hard!!!! Jim

I'll start up this post as the other is getting long and may loose some individuals... Jim O'Connor Ghost Baits I DO NOT feel as though my plastic is usable with regards to realistically pouring baits for myself or customers in a normal fashion. next.......

OK guys...from Del's point of view there are only 2 or 3 having problems....I will not reveal the names of people I have heard from, they need to post up if they want to be counted. It was not "tons" as Del quoted me but it certainly was more than 3!!! Since nothing is really being offered in the way of replacement, what is the incentive to call or email....Just to get ridiculed or blackballed???? Maybe if Calhoun's did the respectable thing and offered to replace, recal, whatever with the product, you would get a real count.. It should not matter however if 10,000 or 1 is having this issue. The customer should be taken care of...the company can figure out all the details later. In the real sense of the whole deal, it should be totally Calhoun's problem and not any of ours... So..... 1) Can anybody that is having or had the bubble problem just post a note so we can get an honest count??? Or email Del...I would like to see the count here as well in the public forum notes...We could copy all the responses if this forum is not direct notice enough.. 2) Will you also comment on if your plastic is, in YOUR opinion, useable to you as you thought it would be when you bought it. I for one did not expect to PAY FOR a bubbling mess. I did not know I would be required to cook, scrap, re-cook etc... Calhoun's or Del should post this information about how the product is going to be PRIOR to everybody spending good money. If the product is not made for microwaving, then put that on the label!!!! I for one was going to let this die but I don't feel as though repeated posts about Calhoun's is looking into it, resolves anything for me. You all may be different.....My issue is inferior product that I paid hard earned money for that DOES NOT perform as it should...I see that the issue is just going to be left to be resolved through our total mass of responses or further actions....I find it very perplexing that Calhoun's is aware of the problem and working on it YET you say only 2-3 people have brought this issue up. Why would a HUGE comapny like Calhoun's be concerned with just 2-3 emails when SO MANY others are just fine. Just seems strange to me...It also seems strange that his is happenning in different parts of the country. As I read back on the all posts, the blame seems to be on us, our techniques or our equiptment....but definitely not the product????!!!!! Don't be shy now as I know how many I have heard of so far. I really hope that the experience with Calhoun's does not cause other "supply" issues with Del-mart. My laptop at work has the # to Calhoun's Plastics on it. Also, the 5 gallon buckets have the number on it as well. I will follow this post up in the am with the correct contact info. I think that if more individuals come forward (even if you are satisfied now) it will help resolve this issue for others in the future!!! Maybe a mass shipment of inferior product back to the company with a nice note would be appropriate....Or maybe all the scrappings from the top of your cooked plastic would be nice.... Jim PS Using McDonalds as a comparison is way off base!!! I am a share holder and frequent Mcd's. If I had an issue with any of their products I would not ahve to call and complain to anybody else but the person right in front of me!!! Rest assured, they would resolve it immediately with full replacement of the product...no discussions AT ALL!!!!!

I hate to sound like a broken record but M-Fs changeable motor oil is the best on the market :!: . I have baits from 6 months ago that are still exactly the same color... Maybe Chris will chime in here as his FAV color in the world is MO !!!! Jim
-
We all wish :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: The gallons seemed to be fine. Seems Calhouns should take all of them back and take care of it directly. That way Del isn't STUCK in the middle... If enough guys would post up, we can get them to commit to something. I would cover the cost of shipping for sure!!!!!! Jim PS I have the number there, also the Sales Reps number...should I post it up???!!!!! We could all give them a ringy ding !!!!
-
Great posts guys!!!!! You have said what I was trying to say all along!!!! It is not Del, it is Calhoun's that needs to step up!!!! However, Del is the sole distributor of the product so there is some culpability there... Del's other products are top notch and his service has been beyond superb!!!! The other thing I have noted with the plastisol products is the finished product..... If you take a bait made with all the plastisol products (don't include sticks here UNLESS no salt is included) that does not have salt in it and rig it up texas rigged. The Lurecrat bait will hit the bottom, stand for a couple seconds and lay down, Calhoun's...same deal. M-F's bait will remain vertical FOREVER... In the fishing world, this is what the angler needs!!!!! This is HUGE!!! If you are carolina rigging, this is what you need!!!! I my 7" worm trials, the M-F worms will out fish a Calhoun's bait 3 to 1. BTW...Does everybody that uses Calhoun's figure the cost of softener in with the cost of the plastisol??? I mean it is costing you more than just the cost of the plastic if you have to add to it. I have tried adding softener to the M-F super soft but found you just don't need it!!! The baits are still softer than the Calhoun's with softener...IMHO Jim

I talked with Bob from M-F today. The ad was there but stated a FREE sample with purchase. That is not waht he really wanted... M-F is offering a FREE sample...no purchase is necessary!!!! Just cover the shipping!!!! Get it while you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim I'm already hearing from those that have tried M-F....

Hey Ledhed..Is that like rock, paper, scissors??? I'm sure mine would not stand up to that yet...I'll work on these again as they are real nice jig heads...5/8oz with a 60 degree owner hook. Staright from Ebay ... Just bought a few to play around with... Jim

Will the "real" earthworm please stand up!!! What color are you Craig???? If you moved to FL, I bet you are a darker shade of brown now!!! Jim
-
Tim: It is not close to a "real" earthworm at all. If you look back through the posts you will find this really is a color close to Morning Dawn. A pinkish, purpleish, blueish color. It is real hard to explain the color but it is an awesome color. Here is a link to close to what it looks like... http://www.tackleunderground.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=4555&highlight=morning+dawn The picture is down below. I have MANY M-F colors...For the most part, they are of very high quality...email me.... Jim

Thanks all....I dunked those bads boyz, swirled them around a bit and then took them out. I'm sure there was way to much paint on them...They may not even have been hot enough as it took a little bit for the powder to melt... I am using the Pro-tec powder. The heads still came out real nice except for a few spots. Can I re-heat them to smooth out the paint??? Next is some devcon for the brushes and the head (probably add some glitter in that) then hair and skirt them up.... Guess I just bought a new toaster oven for the wife!!! WOW those few jig heads were expensive  !!! Jim
