  1. Here's a tip for those of you who are serious about taking awesome pictures for baits and lures. The search term tto use is "product photography"; you'll find a lot of relevant information either on Google or Yahoo, maybe a full year of reading lol. Here's one good How-tos: Although there is no relevant category there for baits and lures but you can read the similar stuff. Like lures that's shiny and reflecting light: Jewelry, Silver ware. Shooting a transparent SP, try the tutorial on glass etc. (Note: the site advertises it's EZcube light tent which Delw describe a DIY one earlier.) And here's one that includes how to Photoshop your photo later for the pro look.
  2. I might be the odd man out here. Try palette knife. Epoxy is spread on like butter. Cleaning is just a quick wipe with scrap newspaper.

Pete, if everyone starts using lures like that, you might have a business selling sunglasses to fishes. Great job, I know the PITA in applying holo stuff to curved surfaces. U did it nice & smooth without any crinkles. TOP NOTCH.
  4. I think that's dedication and a bit of marketing there Jed. Occasionally u'll get a Rapala that's out of tune too but that's low percentage which gives anglers confidence in the product. Kinda sucks if you include tuning instructions with you lure to get it to run true LOL. Hoodaddy, you're looking at the wrong place for the tall blonde & beautiful
  5. This is a coincidence, was watching Land B4 Time with my kids and then I see this lure of yours. Check out Little Foot in here. Uncanny resemblance?
  6. Glad you guys like it. A glimpse into what we want in our shops LOL. Spartacus, don't all the lure brands want you to think that?

  9. Well said Bob. But even though I make my own lures I still buy any of those old favourite; if I ever come across some LOL. Hi, my name is LaPala; I buy old lures........
  10. Read this: Law Review Article on the Problems with Copyright Excellent article by John Tehranian: "Infringement Nation: Copyright Reform and the Law/Norm Gap": I am already infringing since i coy paste the above from: http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2007/11/law_review_arti.html:teef:
  11. I agree with saga on this Daymon, the tow eye on the second one looks too high and far back. Think of "lip" configuration like this as lipless vibe lures, the part in front of the tow eye affects how the lure digs and wobble too wide and long will kick the lure into in balance. My guess is tow eye shift to position in pic below:
  12. If you're interested in that then just design your lures according to the length/weight/gap characteristic of the treble of ur choice. Other members have chipped in their favourites. Mine is Owner Stingers ST-41. Pick yours.
  13. I find success in using multi strand wire. The "spring" from the wire gives the lure a nice smooth bend. Vary the poundage of the wire to get the action and durability you want. Commercial design example be the Lucky Craft Sasara. Old old lure i made, multiple 2 piece laminated togather, wire joints bent tested to breakage at 60lb using 20lb wire Green lines are wire placement crimped in a loop. 14. Mostly a compromise btw the 2. Or you can think about making weight transfer chambers . For this it's usually done with 2 piece or 3 piece laminate construction. Good luck with your experiments.
  15. Right back at you Daymon & JT. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone too. May peace prevail and everybody can be home with family and merriment.
  16. Can't help you with where to get Jelutong in US but I almost use Jelutong exclusively to make my lures. The density of Jelutong is much higher than Balsa. A comparison be the lightest Jelutong will be about the weight of hard grade balsa. Jelutong is easy to carve and finishes to a very fine smooth surface. However it has low decay resistance so jelutong lures must be properly sealed to prevent any water seepage. Alternative for native wood in US that is almost equivalent to jelutong be basswood. Basswood is a bit more stringy to carve and can have raised fibres when sanded. Jelutong is crisp to carve and leave a clean knife cut. Hope this helps.
  17. Man you guys have darn good eyes, I can make out where the eyes are only LOL

Man that's a lot of lures. I don't think I myself have reach that number of lures yet, even half that might be stretching
  20. Type your anticipated long relies in Notepad. Then Crtl-A, Crtl-C and finally Ctl-V in the quick reply box.
  21. I'm 100% with you here. Pitch, roll, and wiggle will do for me Trust the Brits to muddle up English

    Action

The difference is to minute to noticeably affect action. See the table here:http://www.simetric.co.uk/si_water.htm We are talking about 2 decimal points of diff for 10° diff in tempreture. Would make a diff for winter and summer suspention of lures but normally it's not apparent.

    Death roll

Actually Clemmy, look at some deep diving lures, some of them are actually a reversed airfoil, designed to dive. I usually check tow eye position and body shape of lures I design without a lip. A diving lure will actually dive a bit without lip if you design it right. As we understand these forces, we should take advantage of them and use it to help with the action of the lures we design.
