Doug here from Upper Hand Scents. I have this question asked very frequently and like some guys have mentioned, scent oil will cook out to some degree. The longer it sits in your pot/cup, the more it will disperese. I pour my own tournament baits and my best suggestion is to add the scent just prior to pouring into molds. Get your plastic all colored, softened/hardened, etc... then stir well, add scent, reheat briefly ( since the cooler oil lowers plastic temp. ) and then shoot your baits. It works extremely well for me. Remember guys, we make over 17 varieties! We get orders from International countries all the time! These guys have tried the others, but they say UPPER HAND SCENTS are the best! That I am not making up, we hear it all the time! The e-mails from these guys and their success stories are awesome! Some updates since I have not posted in some time: Our best selling scents ( 100% oil based ) are: TOAD MAGNET ( anise & garlic ), HAWG SAUCE ( craw ), COFFEE SHAD, JAVA N GARLIC and GARLIC. This is based on our past two years of sales. Our garlic is insane!! if your looking for a strong garlic, this will knock your socks off! We also have worked extremely hard on filtering the coffee shad since guys have had issues in the past with the dark color of coffee shad. We have triple filtered it now and it is half as dark as it was when we first launched it years and years ago. We also have made numerous custom scents for clients. Feel free to call if you ever need to discuss something or need help. Doug 262-483-2809

I have about 45-50 silicone molds for sale. They are LURECRAFT molds. I payed around $550-600 for all of them. I would like to sell the whole lot for $350. If anyone is interested, I will send you an e-mail with descriptions of them all. I can take a picture of the lot also. They are all in excellent shape. Please contact me ( serious inquiries ) if your interested in the whole lot. Thanks.

Dubs Chops: I can't believe I didn't notice your post from a ways back, here's your answer: The Grape Shad is a throwback type scent. Mann's has the fruit flavor baits ( Jelly Worms ) which they still make today. I don't know what it is about the fruity scents, but bass like them and that's what counts! I've thought about making Cherry and Blackberry, etc... type scents, but the Grape Shad really fills that fruity bait need. The "New " Java Garlic is in stock as we speak and my Pro Staffer Mike White is shooting a video this week on Lake George in Florida with the new scent. I can't wait to see the footage!! Happy New Year to everybody. Doug

Just a note to all you guys that I am in the process of making a new scent for 2012. I have had many guys ask for this combination, one being my Pro Staffer: Mike White, who took a year off from competitive bass fishing, but will be back on the B.A.S.S. circuit this coming season. Mike asked me to make this combination as he stumbled upon the idea by accidentally mixing the two together. I have had other clients asking for the same combination, so it was time to get it going. JAVA 'N GARLIC will be available by January 1st, 2012. This past Spring we launched Toad Magnet which is a Anise & Garlic combination and it did extremely well, so many positive catches and comments...thanks A video will be out on Toad Magnet within the next month or so via you tube. It's a combination of Shad, Leech and Nightcrawler. Sold out at the Madison Fishing Expo this past weekend! Most of you know that you can't find a better, stronger scent on the market. Thanks again. upperhandscents

Thanks Jim!!! That idea is patented I believe? I googled it awhile back and noticed someone making them like we talked about. I don't remember what Company it was, but I am pretty sure the idea is out and about now.....oh well. I 'll check into it again though and see what comes up-who knows? -Doug

Guys, I sponsor a Pro named Mike White on the Bassmaster tour and he just sent me an update of what happened last weekend during the Bassmaster Southern Open on the Harris Chain of Lakes-FL., he placed 9th overall and cut a check for nearly $7K!. In his note, he said, without the Upper Hand Scent-Marinades I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE FISH I HAD!!!!! He used a Venom black finesse worm and had it sauced in Coffee Shad....he also used Hawg n Garlic during the tournament. He mentioned his co-angler was using the same technique and could not catch a fish....after he got his limit he gave the guy a coffee jacked worm and the guy caught a bass. He said the bass were slow to bite and once they did, he needed them to hang on a few seconds to set the hook, he said he knows the bass hung on because of the Coffee Shad scent! Best part of this whole scenario is that Mike is such a great guy and well deserving of a good finish like he had, I am glad the scents gave him the edge he needed to make some Ca$h!!!. He also mentioned that several pro's came up to him and he told them about Upper Hand Scents...How cool is that!!! ONE OTHER NOTE: I have just introduced Coffee n Anise and it is selling extremely well....A huge thanks to Brian Horlings @ Bucketmouth Lures for the great suggestion!!!! I will be introducing a new clear based Hawg Sauce for translucent/lighter colored pours in the very near future. Also look for Herring Oil down the line. Doug

I hear ya Jim! As for adding worm oils as a medium, that makes no sense to me? Yes, most oils produced are very concentrated, thus you should reap the benefits by using them as a whole rather than diluting them which diminishes their scent strength....just my opinion though. To get the maximum permeating benefit, you should stick with a straight concentrated product. As for feeling that your wasting concentrated oils, I always tell my customers to coat their baits, not submerge them;) You can always add more later as I have noticed at times the oils are absorbed into certain plastics. -Doug Upper Hand Scent - Marinades

I have no clue why one would want to add worm oil to their soft baits when you can add natural based forage oils such as crawfish, shad, etc....? There is no question these forage oils have lubricating properties and they add the smell value. The whole reason I started my scent line was because I felt most soft plastics ( other than Berkley ) had no qualities on the scent side to help fish hold on to the bait longer. I am in the process of rebuilding my website as we speak. Business keeps growing with each passing year so I can't complain. You can visit the new site @product line and let me know what you think? Again, it is not completed but it shall be very soon. The Coffee Shad has become one of my top sellers in a short period of time! It's a very dark oil and most guys are using it for packaging as it tends to alter colors if you add it to hot plastic since it's so darn dark. I have come out with Shad bit-o-Coffee which is got much less Coffee oil in it in hopes it will not alter baits as much? Remember, I am only @ $14.99 for a pint of Hawg Sauce. Yeah the $10/pint deal sounds good, but rememeber the old saying...you get what you pay for. Maybe it's the real deal for you guys....I know your trying to save:twocents:. In the process of introducing: BLOODWORM-SHAD in the coming weeks. I have my cousins down in Florida using the mix right now, so far the results have been very good. I am looking forward to using it and the coffee-shad soon....opening day is in a week here in Wisconsin. The Coffee Shad has been selling extremely well with the sale going on. fishing scents

Appreciate the info you provided Scott! The reason Coffee/Shad only works with darker colors is it's dark as molasses coloring. It's dark just like coffee is itself. I know some places are selling synthetic coffee which is clear, but I don't go the synthetic route. Most everybody is raving of it's potency just by adding a few drops to baits when packaging them. I myself have plenty of baits "marinading" for the upcoming season. Thanks Again! -Doug

Coffee Shad now reformulated with increased strength!! You guys should be happy with this stuff.....just don't set the bottle near your coffee cup:) COLUMBIAN ROASTED COFFEE OIL ( 75% ) WITH SHAD OIL ( 25% ).

Heck of a job Ted!!!! The perch looks incredible.....should be guys lining up to buy some of those-including me:) Again, good job bud!

Guys, Let me clear this up for good. I had carried a thicker Hawg sauce the first year or two....complaints came in from guys wanting it for hot plastic. I reformulated the recipe into a straight oil now. I only make the thick stuff by request now. So any items purchased off the website are all good for hot plastic or marinating. -Doug http://www.gobassin.com/bassscents.html
