Hey just realized you are bassbuster from BDO!Welcome to the custom lure making side of things To tell you the truth, there are a couple of options. I have a pair of very thin, long needle nose pliers i filed a groove in to the top and bottom jaws with a needle file. They worked great until I found these from texas tackle.www.texastackle.com These from texas tackle are kind of high(price) but are well worth it. Hey BB maybe share some of those great fishing tips in the fishing tips section.Blades

Just wanted to make a short reply here.(It turns out sort of long) I was honored that Roger(Swede)approached me to paint these wonder full handmade lures.Sometimes I get so worn out with painting I think I want to give it up!Then something like these lures Swede made comes along and the fire is lit once again. I could hardly wait for the package to arrive from Sweden LOL. I seldom ever get nervous anymore when painting custom lures but I must admit I got a little nervous on these. If you saw the care that was taken to make these lures and the effort this man put forth to get them to me you would understand why. I mentioned in a post a good while back that until I had found TU I had become complacent in all aspects of my lure building. And that finding TU gave me the fire back that I needed. This instance is a perfect example of the many benefits and privilege's this forum offers to all of us. I feel I have made some life long friends here at TU though many of us have never personally met.I hope that many of you will get as much out of the privilege of belonging to this forum as I have. Thank you all for the nice compliments on this collaboration.Thank you Swede for trusting me to add a part of me to your work. I have learned much from association to this forum, and look forward to learning more Finally, thank you Jerry(redg8r) and all the moderators for keeping this the best tackle making forum in the world! Note: This reply only applies to when I am painting lures to accumilate for sale at trade shows or just to the clients i have stop by the shop to see what I have.LOL There is a guy up around lake Cherokee (morristown) that will take my "fowl ups" quicker than the #1"S He says the less than perfect ones catch the best for him. I wish I could convince my regular clients of this LOL.B&B

Baitmaker, thank you for the kind words.Considering the company I am keeping on this site I take that as a compliment among the highest forms. I have learned much from these other guys here in the last year and feel sure I will learn much more. If anyone is interested polyflake glitter found at Micheals and Hobby Lobby lay's on the lure about as flat as I have ever seen.It also comes in a handy salt type shaker with adjustable head. It's about $4.00 per container and will last a long time. Thanks again Blades.

bigbrown is this the effect you are looking for? This is red size .004 glitter and silver size .008 glitter. This glitter is applied way before the topcoat. The picture does not show it but the glitter application on this bait looks as if it very deep in the lure's back. The topcoat is as smooth as silk and absolutly no demples. I have never had a problem with the topcoat or glitter coming off.Sorry the pic is not better. Blades The first pic looks like it is very rough on the top but as you can see on down it is very smooth. The focus is out some.

Fishnut,I have a tripple plating system from Caswell. It works great but hardly ever use it anymore. To plate plastic through (electrolosis)sp it requires you to perform a process that will make the plastic conductive. This is done with a copper bath.If you purchase the tripple plating kit from caswell this is the kit to have to do chrome on crank baits. Negatives: The bait has to be very clean, preferably fresh and clear or with no paint on it. A rectophier(again spelling is wrong) required to do large surface area is exspensive. If I remember correctly the rectophier(sp) that comes with the kit i initially purchased was only powerfull enough to do about 25 square inches atatime. I had considered doing a tutorial on this and still would like to.I just have to many irons in the fire at the moment. If you call the Caswell number and speek to there sales department they will explain all to you. They are very helpfull people. Good Luck.B&B

Finlander, is it on a blade or a spoon or something else? Doh! LoL sorry dude I had just finished some blades with prism foil.Did not read well enough- sorry The link Husky posted is really good. There are many good techniques out there. I witnessed it being done at Thundershad (awesome bait co.) not long ago. They foil the bait and leave a small strip top and botton then dip the bait in a clear sealer and rotate till dry. Then shade the back and belly to hide the vacant foiled area. The dip process levels everything out but the foil is very thin(not tape) I do no that sealing the foil before painting gives a better look to the paint.B&B

Tbait,Kellure,Bernzy Thanks guys. The bee's wax did it lol. I used some of my daughter's wax sticks she has for her braces.Worked like a dream. I learned a couple things in the process. Probably not important but I will share anyway. It is not unusual for me to paint as many as 25 to 30 baits at a given time so my brushes see alot of paint .I have found that the detergent called "Simple Green"undiluted is wonderfull. As far as I can tell it will not harm the brush parts and if you put some in a tupperware container and soak the gun in it . It will get the thing so clean it is unbelievable. This stuff gets down into the cracks and really dissolves things. Kind of looks like alca seltzer working lol.The biggest thing for me is when i finish for the day i always run lacquer thinner through the brush. When i pick it back up the next day the brush is mechanically dry and stiff for a couple minutes till all the parts get wet again from thinner and paint. Now i put the simple green in a siphon bottle and the last thing i do after flushing my gun's is to spray a little simple green thru the gun.It seems to keep the gun lubed and ready for tommorrow lol. Then when I start back the next day i just spray a little thinner thru the gun and whammo! ready to go and squeaky clean lol. No build up. Again thank you guys. New I could get the answer here.God Bless B&B

Ok,I pretty much thought I had the airbrush troubleshooting figured out but I got one I need help with. History I use Iwata and Badger both I have Badger 150's and they have always been dependable I am aware of the proper care and maint. Been using Iwata and Badger for at least 12 years Problem: One of my Badger 150,s is driving me crazy. It is spitting and sputtering the paint and even pure laquer thinner If I remove the tip and needle and place in the other 150,it will not spit or sputter The problem does not move when I place components in the other gun I have: Soaked the gun and all parts in biodegradable solvent Blown out (with air) the gun while it was stripped down Cleaned out all the ports and the tubes The thing is squecky(sp) clean The problem still exists I think something is causing the vortex suction to be interupted. It is the only explaination for the intermitant spraying.I know someone out here has to of had this problem. It cant be the tip and needle if i move them to another 150 and they work fine.Any sudjestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks B&B

Another nice one Rob. I think Red compiles them and loads them when he gets time.I believe he has alot to do in the evenings and gets to it as soon as he can.I posted a couple and it took three or 4 days but it did get there. Just hang on I am sure it will appear soon. Once again another cool one.
