    Bubbles

were all learning every day. .we have become mad scientist.

    Bubbles

our pour hole is at the highest point, vent hole in rear top of our molds. when expansion happens we block the pour/sprue hole. back pressure forces foam micro bubbles to collsape creating a harder denser body.. we wash bodies in hot dawn soapwater to remove any release wax. then sanding. . wish I knew how to downsize pics. I'm one of the old guys building baits ,... I hope this helps someone out.

whats shown will not change. its an inherent issue with urethane foams.. the only issue of sink rate would be densitys involving expansion. that can be caused by temperature when pouring . under 72 degrees expansion would be less..as I stated before the small pitting can be filled with lepages wood filler and sanded.. if anyone solves this issue feel free to share. we pour dozens of gallons yearly and have become accustomed to this.

its very doubtfull the bubbles created the buoyancy issue, unless all the mixed micro-spheres migrate when pouring. if that's true you will have a density strength issue to follow. as finishing you can use any paintable filler for the tiny voids.. we use urethane foams in our molds here on some bait lines we manufacture.
  5. 26lb foam, smooth on. denser then standard 16lb. mold away ,wire it thru. it will float lower in water as its denser then others.
  6. have you approached vacuum plating. that process works very well as a base. and is very shiny. but once again its just a base that needs to be covered in a clear coat.
  7. sounds like an issue before clear coating?..is your pearlsrunning?.are they totally popcorn dry?
  8. this sounds silly. what snap are you using on the line?. is it rounded to let the bait work side to side?
  9. what species of fishing. what water types, will relate to color patterns.
  10. its gas-off issue..try a lacquer primer after wash and 7 day curing. we stopped using envirotex on urethane baits.
  11. me and gliders grrrr. have at it boys
  12. tried all the above. we went back to envirotec on wood lures..
  13. musky glenn .I have produced enuff fire wood to heat a house here in Canada on a cold winters nite. the joy of it is when we hit on a winner..dale sw. I think of new paint process even after 35 years of painting for a living. .if its fun do it.
  14. lol were all with you. laying in bed at night thinking of the next adventure, shape color and process . I think your amongst many here.
  15. all I know, new belts love finger skin owwww,
  16. 80k for tooling. .with that investment job your lips out. unless your building a hundred thousand pcs yearly.
  17. what material is the screw eye going into? for larger toothy fish ,wire thru, but again whats the lure material. there lots of variables.
  18. dollar store. laundry bag.
  19. grief, yer kidding. baits moving along, fish truly don't examine the perfection. its either to be eaten or not lol.,your doing just fine.
  20. wish we could help. I do know urethanes hate moisture. when we open gallons, its a pourfest . life cycles when opened are short.
  21. heddon ,yes I believe you are correct. I remember back in the 1950,s looking but not touching my dads heddons,plufeugers.,pikies.
  22. crackle frog died out and now has made a resurgence..like any other bait,it has its days here on st clair. crackle can be done in a multitude of colors.

    Crackling

crackle became popular here on the great lakes. the original was crackle frog pattern. from there it became a color for multiple companies. mid 1980,s the good lacquer based crackle was did-continued,for voc,s. now crackle pastes are different. years back a gallon was 25.00.
  24. a good blower and a boxed in spray area will give good results. just up here in Canada the heat goes with the air draw, out the venting. in summer months heat gets pulled from the attic and becomes an inferno. in summer months we squirt early mornings..a company I paint for installed a osha approved booth. 15 grand 10 years ago..but that's not a fun hobby application.,guys just don't use a shopvac for a draw. the motors really are sparky..
