after legalitys. are your lures wood,plastic.rubber . foam. that's one thing. painting processes are all different upon types of lures.. if your lucky enuff try to learn process from a builder that does it for a living. hobby painting and manufacturinf process can differ greatly. cost...time and tweaking profit margins all factor in.

we dip on wooden bodies. on plastics we spray the primer. lacquers set up fast.

there may be issues if your trolling the baits. that style of joint will hold back tail wobble .

hi guys anyone have a line in the wire inserts for do-it fish weights. I need a new supplier for thousands.

we use stainless tig wire 0.62 diameter. we have a bender customized to bend the wires.

I am chuckling. you can never have enuff. it got so bad for me. we started building 30 years ago... my living room has 3 thousand trebles and rings. . the shop we went to hanging stock on the ceiling lol... I have made lotsa deer home less. ,they cant hide in the cedar swamps here.

the same as bob here. dremel 1/16th bit. on baits the lips installed before clear we leave the tape on then remove after clears hard.

good water based paints are very good. dry time is not too bad. while we still production run lacquers the new Canadian voc compliant laws,have changed lacquers forever.

thinner lips are fine on smaller specie lures. one of the bigger issues is when we net a 35lb musky they thrash. that can mean a ruined lip,bent hooks etc. . lip angle will be a minimal change, just weight factors. belly ballast has a far reaching approach over lip thickness. .over weight will kill a large straight lure,s action.

it depends upon lure size and lip length.. as your a musky lure builder experiment. . we have built the 9 thumper series with 1/8 and 3/16 lexan. theres no difference as those lips were never beyond 1 inch beyond the pull eye. on smaller lighter lures thes a very possible buoyancy change. the bait will ride further nose down. hope this helps

making baits that are trolled at 3-5mph can be tricky. our lures need a wandering effect with return to center. muskys love that wander with wobble.<br />while all are tuned to run correct at the speeds theres always 1 that has magic. it can have no paint teeth marks everywhere but it still catches.thats the magic of hand built lures. that's why sharing info on this site gives every builder a view and thoughts.<br />theres always a better mouse trap.

we still go to the river and tune before packaging.. bon p I totally agree with yobu,,but most folks simply do not understand tuning lures. in the musky world,they gotta e tuned

we have used auto clears for 30 years. its awesome on hard plastics and metals. yes its hard,but far superior then clear lacquers. never ever had a peel issue. if theres peel its the undercoat or coloration paints. . while anu urethanes,there not made for woods or producys that flex ex...woods.. i have spinner blades that have gloss still after 12 years outside my shop in canadian winters. yes the floro colors faded but the gloss is like day one.. remember guys a baits like a sandwhich. your base/primer then the color then the clear. without the adherence of good primer and good clear you will have failure.

component system glitter nu.5 tip paasche airbrush. mix glitter with clear thinned 2 ball bearings in bottle. shake and shoot. bearings keep glitter suspended.. after that flash coat we apply the final clearcoat after the first has flashed over.. you will get an even glitter coat . we have done that for over 30 years on all baits.
