  1. drain the tank weekly you wont have issues.. we are in a hi humidity area.
  2. we tried the red vmc trebles years back. while the hooks were good, they never increased catch rates. thats on 6 inch muskie baits.. most buyers prefer nickel plated here in the great lakes region.
  3. on musky baits try tig wire. .we customized our bender to accept 0.62.. its pretty tough stuff.
  4. to all our american friends .happy thanksgiving ,enjoy and be safe.
  5. glitter dust nu.5 tip pashe as stated. we mix it with clear. when mixing with clear put a ball bearing in spray bottle shake so the dust or glitter sprays evenly. normally a couple fog coats then a clear coat only final coat. hope this helps.
  6. pm me.. stainless 0.50-0.62.

    Woods?

while we still prefer wood, the azek?.whats the largest diameter or thickness available guys?.in canada trees are more readily available lol.
  8. skeeter. your post made me chuckle. its the truth about what you say. i also have had that statement thrown at me.fishnart you will need to reach a happy medium. that usually takes time. . i do musky baits. guys are incredibly fickle..thick skin and long hours will be the norm. once your passion becomes a monetary adventure.
  9. excellent thoughts guys. what we do for passion. bob the toothy critters here must be part beaver. teeth will destroy lures. i have seen plastic lures punctured
  10. seeking 54 your correct. cedars have open pores. sealers adhere better. noticing the baits posted its evident you have great p;aint bite. . we immerse our bodys sealers will only get in thousanths.its the bite into the pores that makes paints hang onto.
  11. abache..some mahoganys are great for baits.with my humble experiences oaks, hard maples are bad news..you can get beautifull artwork on them but it wont handle test of time. trolling is a way of life here. pulling a bait at 8-10ft per second for miles on end is just extreme. we also deal with large temp changes. from 80 degree water to waters at33 degrees. lots of different values here
  12. cedars fine. poplar is sketchy. hardwoods have hard time absorbing sealers.. oh ya nice bait
  13. resin or hard foam baits its fine. . we mix our 4.1 in shooter cups from the dollar store. on all metals, plastics its superb with gloss finish. on metals we use a lo-bake oven. we have blades 20 years old and there still slik shiny.. it all seems to go back to your adhesion issues. normally we use lacquer based paints, and any 4.1 clearon the above mentioned works. woods are another story line. good luck i hope i helped someone out.
  14. hi we use dupont or cross canada auto clear. only on plastics and metal. wood has tendencys to move when wet. have you looked into what you shot over. paint issues. .we use 4.1 mix thru a paashe nu.5 tip at 50lbs. never an issue.
  15. we enclosed our comp with strofoam sheets. its a 60 gallon tanker
  16. we do on second coats if applicable. on musky lures only

    Heater

we heat with electric. remember guys open flames and solvents, you can not have open flame heat... and yes its expensive. 20 years ago the r.c.m.p. came. they thought with our electric usage i was growing wacky tobaccy.. true story...
  19. when you seal seal them2x scuff between coats bass wood cleaned accepts sealer. immeres in can deft or minwax or straight white shellac. scuff when dry then paint. clearcoats depend upon paints your using for patterns.
  20. tim ya gotta seal them. then prime with kilz zinsser or lacquer prime
  21. years back bill crane a well known builder stopped in. i asked. he stated he weighed his balsa. the heavier balsa was used on different models. as we build lures for toothy critters we need heavier density cedars. balsa has its own magic no doubt
  22. i turn roughly 100pcs weekly. everyone has a way they do things. wood species.paints wire or screws and yes the clear coat issues. .. on st clair we need wander and finding center for speeds to 5mph minimum.
  23. we wire our lures or use screws. for big slimey muskies you need to overbuild to keep musky guys happy. failures are not an option.
  24. verniers are our best friends turning.
  25. its great to have more folks adventure into lure building. what region are you in. pat28. when you find a wood species that gives you efficent results stay with it.
