  1. made my first back in1966 for a quebec trip. never looked back from there. watta expect when your dad took ya musky fishing back in 1956. the days of wooden crusers, true temper reels, blk mason line, 33 to 1 outboard mix. aagh memories.
  2. we have bass tourneys up here. years back the after tourney releases were deplorable. the directors now release into the lakes not at the marinas where oxeygeon is less. stressed fish need help. many say theres millions of smallies, but human kind is bad with resopurces. .here on the big waters cradles are not well and can be dangerous. we release non trophy muskie boatside. larger fish are normally netted de-hooked and revived boatside. lactic acid is our killer. muskies just need a few moments. if you guys are smally chasers st clair will be your holy grail, c,mon up and get bass fingers guys. bye the way GREAT THREAD
  3. i cant agrree more on mis-handled fish. i primarily fish muskies. as they are large they are delicate. verticle holds and photo ops are deadly. internal organs are stretched and some times torn. when you realize it can take 20 years to reach trophy size, why not protect them to be fought other days. even when we catch incedental bass we immediatly release them,,,,not toss them over the side. boca grips are a misleading destructive tool on muskies. most will hang the fish verticlly which is the worse thing. imagine seeing a 55 inch musky belly up because someone just dont care.
  4. be very carefull . many shop vacs and vacuums are not designed for dust. we run a dust collecter out of necesity. make sure if your collecters and tubing are plastic there GROUNDED. that will help from static electric discharge or KABOOM. dont want to see anyone have that issue
  5. heres what i do. for fine scale i go to dollar store. in there outdoor/barbecue section they have head nets for bugs. that scale is excellent for fine scale. on the larger netting scale try their laundry bags 1 buck buys great scale. hope this helps someone out
  6. we use a cheapo from sears.. 99.00 and it drills with a forstner bit very well. 12 years and still going.
  7. go to your local auto body supply shop.
  8. i live on l.st clair muskies are everywhere. the population was last est at 180,000 at nit i have seen some big fish fooled on late summer evenings very shallow.
  9. its 129.9 a litre here in windsor ontario canada. . sucks when the refinery is 75 miles away. when we sing OOOOGH canada. thats the moan from being violated man.

thompsons has a waxy overtone. we just immerse our bodies into s.sealer 2 times. .primers adhere well and theres good absortion on softwoods like bass woods or cedars. we use 99percent cedars .

thats death for painting, dont ruin your wood lures
  20. we seal with sanding sealer. rember hang your hooks and rings for testing.
  21. Crankie. this depends upon the basis, wood or plastic lure?. for toothy critters here in canada we use epoxys such as circa nu lustre 55, or envirotex.. fishing muskellinge here baits do get shredded.. be happy your getting action lol.
  22. Thats a question with no direct answer. what style lure. which wood type. as stated theres tons of valuable input on the site
  23. look sweet. you might try a more agressive lip angle. 36-45 for dive angle. funny my brother inlaw make guitars and violins in upper ont. canada..
  24. sounds like a bagley. most of us that do runs of production seal then prime by immersing in prime. the prime will hide small imperfections.using a lacquer based prime allows for any other paint type,,,water base,,,enamels , without issues of adhesion or wrinkling..
  25. hi. red cedar is excellent for baits. it accepts sealers and paints well. it also can accept screw eyes and hold. downfalls its dusty, and sanding can be tricky for even wood finishing.. we use a large dust collection system at all machines. when purchasing lumber end chek your boards for grains.
