  1. welcome willis and sherry. i do have to say. this couple do test and give the honest anwsers. .i can say mr snagman has been around the industry for some time.
  2. ] , .making lures and selling at a professional level becomes a lifestyle. we have been at it for 25 years. i started out custom painting baits. then came contract work. injecting our own product into the scheme of it al to keep the lights turned on. you cannot count hours... if you do decide have a business plan, be honest and above all marry a girl thats understanding.
  3. LIKE it was stated. if you are setup to do work its easier. we do musky lures. we do not charge the pricing as mentioned. . if its a one off its different then sparying 2 dozen.
  4. many times the knock-offs are cheep offshore junk. why not buy used and re-paint..
  5. over the years on plastic, we scuff and re-prime then color, then automotive clear coats. theres no real weight gain. oh ya we use lacquers. . on wood lures we use circa, or etex. cutom squirting nils, ukkos, believers we never had a issue with loss of action or weight issues.
  6. it depends on the size of musky lure. we have re-painted tons over the years. will you give the bait multiple coats of epoxy.?. what lure is it. george woodie baits.
  7. on more pourous woods i recommend sanding sealer. it will save hardships.. we dip the complete lures after drilling and cutting lip slots. , and eyeholes.
  8. some will cut a belly slot. we drill thru the bait. it can be done easily with the correct drill bits and patience.. pre-drilling hook hangar holes and pull wire hole first gives you points to drill to. 11 inch baits are quite easily done.
  9. if you are having problems with weight from topcoats on musky lures. i would look into weighting design flaws. . in my humble opinion ,, if you look ahead trolling, or casting, you will have problems. its not the clear coats , its a weighting, or total balance isue. we do many musky lures yearly.. you have failed to mention which woods, lip angles. we use enviro or new lustre for topcoats and multiple coats. never a balance or weighting issue, as our size of baits range from 5 inch up to 12 inch in production runs.in closing its not topcoat issue here.

    Musky Lures

as stated. screw eyes do hold well.. damage to lures mainly occurs during netting fish. . do the old pull test with a rod and reel. see how much pull you can achieve. you will be floored on how little
  11. try at 15 degree lip angle. weight on the first hook hang. ar. . that design with belly weight will achive near 20 ft on a troll at 4 mph.we have developed a bait 11 inches with a 15 degree angle 31/2 inches. counter weighted on hook hangars. the dive curve is 28ft with 40ft of line at 2.9mph.. hope this helps some
  12. it depends upon lure size. i have painted a few over the years.we used to order pradco nu. 9 -a bombers. they came in pearl wh, or chrome. with painting over thousands they all caught fish. now on a ultra-light bait it may, slightly become an issue... more likely not though.
  13. ok. now i forsee another problem. some recycled plastics will not acept heats as others. theres a famous musky lure co that went this route. they expand when exposed to direct enclosed sunlight.. your baits must be very small to have the etex put on very lightly.. when painting lures by spray its only microns .
  14. you have either not sealed your baits,,,or have not let the water based paints cure. its 1 of the 2.. remember to pre-drill all your screw hook holes and make sure the lip slot and eye holes are sealed.
  15. have you tried clear coating over the eyes?
  16. theres something that makes guys create there own. . we are curious creatures. i started down the bait road a few decades ago. its enjoying to catch fish on your own. its also extremely enjoyable to help out the young guns.just last week we boated a 53by 25 musky 40lbs released by a 13 year old. his dad and him will enjoy that memory for life. now that turns my crank, no pun intended.
  17. yes i am the guy. i never see day lite ,, only woodchips and paint
  18. frakster your right across the lake from me.. im 25 miles west,,windsor.
  19. chisum.... go to the rona or hardware store. get sanding sealer. immerse lure, let dry then prime it. that will help your baits last.. with temerature fluctuations here in ontario, that will help out.
  20. we use vacuum plating, as most tackle companies do. then they are painted or left chromed.
  21. clear lacquers are hard but brittle. it will also be very aggressive on paint. old school baits were done this way. in todays age most builders use epoxies for toothy fish., . we used lacquers for topcoats for years.
