  1. truly depends on what dive angle and depths needed. shallow cranks 45 degrees if line tie is in bait, not lip.
  2. try warming the bait a bit, spray from further away. how many lbs pressure are you using??
  3. great topic fatfingers. as for the swooning women, i dont need anymore 1 is enuff. in reality we to prefer the epoxy but in the new lustre form. . them muskies need a good hard finish, no doubt. thanks for the chuckle at 6.a.m.
  4. great suggestions. im sure theres a whole lotta experience in the posts above. if you get into the industry be prepared. quality and cost to production are a major key. then the selling factor. normally you would need a distibuter. being a dedicated lure maufacturer you best be prepared. long hours and a long term business plan are in your future. good luck.
  5. very cool deal. i live with rainbow fingers.. thats a cool story
  6. my bench is full of cans of paint, hard useless brushes and a couple airbrushes needing to be cleaned.
  7. the old telephone poles were never treated. only the bottoms that were underground were tarred. decoy makers and some carvers search out the old cedar telophone poles.. . like i said im fortunate to have 2 re-saw shops within 30 miles of me. premium cedar is hard to get. red cedar from lumber yards is reasonable. ,, but you need to sort.
  8. birdman, is correct om seeing flaky cedar. if you can when purchasing lumber stock, check end grains. we are lucky locally. red cedar is quite available and good quality. theres even a re-saw company here that has re-claim old growth from telephone poles. some is excellent
  9. with the cedars one thing is to solve bubbling or problems, a good sanding sealer. we use that with 28 per-cent solids. a good dip in the tank it covers everything. a quick scuff where neededand prime. also with cedars we hand select our wood. yes there is flakey, but if you read the wood you can choose your quality.. same as sanding. some folks oversand and raise the grain. we sand to 150 grit. sealer and primer covers any smaller grit marks. hope this helps someone.
  10. jeremy. that ottawa sucker pattern can be painted with any belly color. my favorite is wh/belly. we do hope those color sheets help you out.
  11. cedars very good for action. we use red cedar mainly. after tens of thousands of lures over the last 25 years its still the most economical and desired for its corky action. . sealed properly and cleared it holds paint very well also. its easy to work. remember a dust system is recomended.. lures are tools and certain woods are needed for different applications. as for red cedar being not recomended, check out how many manufatures actually use it.
  12. sorry you lost a friend pete. for the epoxy coverage pete is correct. epoxies hate corners.
  13. we used to shoot ppg epoxy primer. nu.5 paasche tip, 50lbs air pressure. its great on metals. pricey primer but it never comes off. completing this with the automotive paints you are using, excellent results. remember your respirator and exhaust system.
  14. when you have 2 lathes. when you buy gallons instead of pints. when you can heat your house with end cuts. when everything you wearhas paint on it. you fish with 500 baits. when theres nearly 1000 baits in your house. when theres 3000 9in the shop. believe me guys its the truth and theres no end. BUT ITS FUN
  15. ir-regardless what folks say. outside venting is best. you could try a fastco hot water heater motor. the outlet would only require a 2 inch hole and could be piped out. they move incredible amounts of air, and are very quiet
  16. we do that color called ottawa sucker. its great in tea colored waters. copper pearl. fire tiger bars. yellow sides with scale overlay, white belly and yellow eyesets. red on throat and butthole. i have pics if needed. pm i can send you a color sheet. i need an e-mail addy.
  17. pearl copper and yellow. trust me i have sent a few that way, good results
  18. change paints. we do one coat over base whites with our floro paints. if you have ventilation try one shot flourescents.
  19. keep going. my neighbor loves me. i heat there house with wooden screw-ups. its a learning curve,
  20. larry rocks. i saw his shows before. . like hazmail. he thinks outside the box.
