  1. Jeep. what wood are you using. ???
  2. i do know using new lustre is very good. we have been using it for at least 5 years now. for toothy fish its the most durable we have used in clears.. we use different products for applications on metals, or plastics. on wood its great
  3. if its on plastic or metal baits. i use automotive clear. its pricey but is very durable and shiny. i have spinner blades that have been outside in weather for 12 years. paints faded but the clear is like day 1. dupont chromeclear 2500-s. its a 4 to 1 mix. dry time 4 hours. bake time on metal 155degrees -3 minutes and cool.
  4. great job john. theres a lotta work into building big baits. your tutorial gives great ideas.
  5. the largest issue is coating plastics like reef runners or any other. when wooden lure makers need clears the clear must have different features. musky lures or wooden lures absorb water, no matter which way its done.. thru the years we painted thousands of bombers and other plastic baits with very good results from clear acrylics and metal spoons with automotive clear coats. WOOD is a different pickle.. man i hope you come up with a simpler mix.
  6. get a cup of coffee and read lots here in the forums. the wealth of lnowledge here is the best worldwide. theres many quiet masters here, that have been sharing thoughts for years.
  7. shop vacs will create sparks. for wood sanding they clog and burn out. i used 3 before installing dust collecters. for painting dedicate a blower system. we use furnace blower with the squirrel cage. they work very well and you can find them cheap if you are handy with tools.
  8. new lustre fumes are same as etex. there not bad in an area thats not constricted.
  9. new lustre is what we use. it is thicker and dries more clear. we love it.. just remember to mix correctly and stir well.. we have mesky lures that have hunks taken out but the clear holds very well with no paint peel.
  10. we use lexan only. it will occasionally break. cold water and rocks will shatter lexan. its still far superior compared to plastics.
  11. all i can say is cool. muskies here in canada just eat them shads up every fall.
  12. i believe its eastern white cedar. western red cedar. try a local lumber yard.
  13. ceadars good to turn. make sure its knot free. turn at high speeds with sharp tooling. use a good dust collecter. we sand blanks in the lathe turning. . sandpaper is 150 grit, this does not raise grains. sealer and primer adheres well this way. enjoy and wear glasses, be safe

    Warning

yes sir. the prices of raw material have skyrocketed in canada.. re-cyclers are shipping everything to asia.. not counting all of the lare procesers of raw materials. north america is being beaten at their own game.
  15. wow we buy basic colors greens, yellows, blacks its only 10 dollars a quart. gallons are 34 dollars. im in canada though.
  16. we use lacquer based in canada. try a paint maufacturer or your local auto body shop. its slowly being phased out insome areas.. for production runs its very cost effective

  18. yhats a tricky neat way from fish devil. i have experienced big changes in water temps to buoyancy factors.
  19. you could try your local window supplier or glazier. they will sometimes let you pick thru there scrap barrel.. we purchase ours in the whole sheets and runthem thru a bandsaw.
  20. wow. first off your lures got you tgreat fishing. congrats to that for sure
  21. everything above rings true. as for bad blanks. over the years i could heat a house with a woodburner.
  22. thanks guys. actually the bite was slow. waters cold. that bait caught a 53 1/4 last year and won the can-am. maybe they should retire it.. like i said before its humbling cause theres so much talent on this site, and great bait makers.
  23. lexan or aluminum for musky lures. dont be dis-apointed
  24. i would not do that.. do the wire save the dis appointment
  25. i use a lacquer based goldleaf and silver leaf from dynamics paint. i think its available in the u.s. it comes in small jars and up to quarts. i never have the flake peel problem. i remember my lesson well. i had to re-do 100 cranks for a fellow i painted for.
