I was just giving here a shake down and testing her out. Im going to be doing crappie jig heads. I just got the machine painted today and i have a second machine to go pick up. Industrial looking green hammered finish.

I few pic for those of you that may be thinking of building a spin casting machine. Some pics of exactly how it works so you dont have to reinvent the wheel. The main shaft with platten and pulley is mounted through (2) 1 1/4 flat pillow blocks. Then there is a secondary shaft below with a bearing that just pushes up on a shaft through the main pulley assemble which pushes on a steel plate and clamps the mold. Pretty simple actually. I bet you could make one for about $200 with ebay and lots of junk around.

Hey all, im looking for tips on powder painting jigheads. One at a time with forcepts will not cut it. Anyone have pic of larger fluid beds and what types of membrane to use? What racks work? I saw the csi aluminum plamping racks and i also mention of baking the jig with the head up to prevent nipples. Thanks all i cant wait to get into the jig business. I just want to make the most of my time.

I have been playing with casting for years, made my own alum master molds and made jewelry style molds out of the white spin casting silicone. As well as made my own stainless bottom pour pot. I just aquired an actual spin casting machine and about 6 mold frames mostly 9", a 12" missing the tops and a 16", but no vulcanizer. Ive been vulcanizing my small molds in the oven. Id like to hear from some of you spincasters. Im wondering about the new silicones, preform gate runners and a few other things. Im going to try molding most of my gates and runners in. Id love to see TU have a dedicated spin cast forum

it not that hard. the silicone is very forgiving. iv made molds with , without preheating, even over curing and never had any problems other than a lil shrinkage. They say its only 1-2% but its a lil more than that. http://www.contenti.com/resources/instructions/179-XXXinst.pdf its not that its hard its that information on mold making is not at all consumer related. pics will help. bug me in a week if i forget. go_rob_go@yahoo.com. i have made smaller molds than the one above and i just shim the mold with paper besacue of shrinkage if im using the mold frame for pouring also. My big molds i do not, the complete pourable mold is all silicone. If you guys want to chip in and buy me some more silicone il make you videos, lol.

Oh also forgot, there are some tricks of the trade. You take a thin slice of silicone and cover the hook shank before you powder. It bonds yo one 1/2 of the mold and when the mold is cured you slice it with a razor and it becomes a snap in hook holder.

Ya beasty! You put down 1/2 the mold sheets into a preheated frame then your lure/sprue former/gate former; then dust with mica powder add you other 1/2 of the sheets, close the frame and bake until you cookies are done, lol. If you have sheets touching each other without mice they will bond to each other when baked. I ran across this old frame i made way back when i was first starting, my passion is micro ice jigs. It was for use with scraps and only 1/4" deep per side. I would mace it completely different now. Id want the sprue to be made of silicone and not alum, i feel it make the mold sink no heat and pour full pours easily. Id open the cavity up to the top with a spligtly mold and have the sprue former attached to a third plate that was the top. Here are the pics to give you guys bade ideas. I made all my 3 original frames on a drill press with a XY table. ill post some pics of the last few sheets i have left next week.

When i lived in LA, Contenti was the closest, They werent really hobbies friendly, so do your research and bs you way through. They also sell 2 red /2 white discs. red as backing, whit is higher temp for actual mold, a lil cheaper. I used the 12". for my 2 mold frames it made atleast 4 molds for each of the 2 sizes. you can also buy bulk to get square pieces. i believe the pdf gives instructions for vulnanizing. its very forgiving if you dont heat exactly as specd. the silicone does shrink fyi, SOP is to use powder coated masters. I made all my aluminum master molds a few grains heavier if i ever went into production and selling id cast using a spincaster and silicone. http://www.contenti.com/products/spin-casting/179-509.html

I made my silicone molds with contenti white high temp heat vulcanized spincasting silicone, I believe its stable to 900F. very durable even with pressing against the pot nozzle. it comes in 1/4" thick sheets you normally put your master on 2 sheets then brush on mica powder add acorn nuts for allignment then add the next 2 sheets and bake in the oven. The requirement is a heavy duty mold frame, like a jewelry mold frame with aluminum plates on both sides and 5/16 bolts surrounding holes to clamp.

There is not to much out there. i made my own out of the some silicone spincasters use, heat vulcanized high temp silicone and a home made mold frame like jewelry makers use with sides. I dont ice fish but as you decrease size you increase number in catch in panfish and trout. I make #12 jig heads and #20 vertical ice jigs. you have to have a bottom pour pot, i made my own stainless steel bottom pour pot also. If you can get some try turner jones micro jigs, he makes a jig called the scampi 1/500 oz killer for catching bait. the regular 1/250 is great on trout. they are marabou jigs, Turner Jones' Micro Jigs, 417-883-6723. for you jig makers out ther you think you can cast a 1/500 (#16) oz jig n paint in n not get paint in the eye? lol. scampi is in the middle or you can find someone who can cnc, here is one of my body molds i cnc in a class years back i dont post pics of my custom made heads anymore. With silicone you can copy anything that will fit in your frame and if you have ingenuity you can mold your own designs new designs as long as you can make a hard heat resistant master. il give you one tip if you find a cnc source not familiar with molds , circular pocket mill the dowel holes, dont waste your time with drills.

Be aware there are different types of silicones. i made molds out of heat vulcanized silicone used in spincasting machines. http://www.contenti.com/products/spin-casting/179-509.html

I think i bought my last sets of blades from lurepartsonline, regular and premium blades. the regular blades look better than the premium and the premium were 2 big steps lesser in quality than real quality components on quality lures. Very disapointing

Id like to try a resin mold, im wondering what can be used to make a form? I think metal is out since i need the form to be roughly 17" by 4" and i have not mound anything even close.

LOL your my kind of guy BOB, you know your market. Unfortunately i already contacted basstackle, they are the ones that wanted 800+ and their existing molds do not leave me enough room to modify them for the type of worm i want. I hate even describing it to mold makers as then my worms will be out there with no credit or mold to me. I knew someone else had mold like lure craft but i had trouble locating them online and all my catalogs are in storage with my worm 500 miles away in los angeles. This was all before i contacted you. My rough aluminum master is in storage and i have someone trying to locate it now since my dig cam was stolen and not backed up. I was going to try a resin mold modified with what im after. and ill get with you as soon as i get a pic of my design, not that its that different.

Its been a long time since ive been around here, i always hung out in the wire bait sect.. Id like to get some molds made of 16" worms and eels. I dont know whats new or cheap now in making a decent mold. Suggestions? I tried contacting one of the mold companies and to do any different mold other than what the sell they wanted $800+ for alum. I have a few plastic masters on the way and one master out of aluminum, i dont think it will lay well on the bottom of a pan being stiff.

I have made some and bought some. here was the first one i made, the springs were electronic surplus. i just wrapped the spring to the rod with thread then coated in jb weld. Works great. The ones with the rubber mounts are a bit heavy on a rod tip.
