  1. What kind of respirator filters would be suite for lead fumes?
  2. I prefer my buzzbaits with .040 wire frames, center balanced aluminum blades, in black or white. I like them to be able to pull smoothly and to be able to slow them down. The plopping sound and squeaking are deadly. Flat bottom and top, doesnt need a keel and i hate round spinnerbait heads. You should stick with 3/8oz to start. The speed is the key, probably need a trailer on a 1/2 to slow it down enough to not miss half the fish.
  3. thanks for the reply. Ill wire it up stand alone in a box. Rob

  4. I need a little help I made a lead pot and i just need to wire it up. I have a lee thermostat. Can someone tell me how it has to be mounted? Touching the heating element or what?
  5. Anyone heard what new molds will be avail this next year?
  6. Mustad now list a black nickle spinnerbait hook on their website. Im going to ask about ordering some when i order my mold and see what they say.
  7. Im looking for a straight jig hook and cant find any into on diameter or strength of these hooks. Im thinking that either might work denny brauer flippin hook #32807 or mustad black spinnerbait hook #32608bln. I dont see that anybody carries the 32608bln. and thinking that the plastic holding barbs on the shank may help hook stay in jig better.
  8. I have to order a mold on monday. Thinking about ordering a finesse type jig mold. Any recomendations, brush, poison, ball??? Mainly thing for smaller profile 3/8oz jigs maybe or 5/16 st smallest, I probably wouldnt use 1/4. Maybe also a spinnerbait mold always use 1/2oz but thinking about trying the Heavy H model or the ultra. thanks all
  9. Ya we flip and pitch in very thick matts of kelp, and in the jetty rock walls, we have to have weedguards. Even just flipping the bare rock we have to have them. Sdsaw, that was supposed to be,"If i can get it to take the 32886 i am interested" from above.
  10. Thanks, PM sent. If i cant get it to take the 32886 i am interested.
  11. Thanks all! Yes im in So Cal, im in San Fernando valley and we fish long beach harbor for calico bass. Your jig looks great Elkin. Whats the modification? Been using arkie jigs from turners but they quit selling them and we need a replacement. But i prefer fresh water.
  12. Can you pour the poison tail without using a wide gap hook? Im looking for a mold cant find anything i like, need something 3/4 oz and 1oz and barb for plastics for calico bass
  13. thanks its just a normal round ball jig mold, the 2 largest cavities have already been modified at tad by previous owner. SO pouring i believe 3/8 oz or so.
  14. Its so heavey for me and i could use a 1.5# or so, or other trades possible. Even just trading some weights if you have some lighter ones.
  15. My mold takes a 2/0mustad 32746 hooks and i want to make some of thes jigs to use in the ocean and im looking for a larger diameter wire hook in black nickle to use. Who makes a heavy duty 90 deg black nickle jighook? in 2/0 or 3/0
  16. I have, I made an aluminum jewelry type mold curing frame but with bolts to clamp it then used contenti silicone disks cut up and cured in my oven. POP and durhams make terrible molds, not worht the time for lead.
  17. I just got a Mac and cant seem to find how to resize pics for emailing/posting in Ifoto. Help please.
  18. Thanks all. Yes my pot is made from a piece of 2.25" stainless pipe 12" long with a thick plate welded to the bottom and a band heater on the outside. I just fired it up for the first time, It melted a single wheel weight in about 5 min. My heater is 750 watt. So on to my next question, i need a stand. How does lee or other isolate the the heat to the pot and keep it from heating the stand? My lathe is not working so ill have to wait a week or so to get to the pintle valve. I dont have temp control yet either as i scavanged high temp wireing and bimetal switch for a crock pot that only went up to 450F. I can easily get a lee one and replace my existing switch.
  19. Thanks all, My pot is all made and i just have to make the valve i was guessing it was a ball and not a taper. And im goint to start with a small hole as my main purpose is smaller jigs. A pic always helps if you get a chance cadman. Ill check midwayusa and see if they show the parts. thanks again Rob
  20. Anyone have a pic of the valve or how it works on the lee bottom pour pot? I need to make a valve and cant find one to look at.

    Getting Lead

Ive never had great luck finding lead. Tire shops are a good source for wheel weights, i had one shop give me about 75# for free and also bought over 100# from another shop for about $15. We did have here electronics surplus places and aerospace surplaces that had lead lying around. I lucked into a business going under that had 3 big 50# soft lead blocks that I bought for $30 for all but my buddy stole one from me. You should also try recycling places they might sell to you also. Lastly i have seen lead on craigslist at times. goodluck.
  23. It could be done but i would never expect it to work satisfactory and youll probably be sick of futzing with it before its really done. If you keep your eyes peeled you can find a used lathe for 300-400 and use your time more wisely.
  24. Im working on a lead pot now thats all stainless and the reservoir is a tad over 2" id and 12.5" deep. Powered by a band heater around the outside. If you can dream it up it can be made. I still have to make the nozzle/pintle valve so it will be bottom pour. By my guesstimate it should be a 20# capacity lead pot. YOu could probably easily do what you want by welding a stable base to a piece of pipe and sitting it on a hot plate. Just heat your plastic in the microwave and pour it in and your problems should be minimal.
  25. Here are some larger ones on ebay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/Y-WEEDLESS-JIG-GUARDS-200-EACH-DO-IT-HILTS_W0QQitemZ250550810779QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a55fdf89b
