    cnc

most cnc machines require you to be able to write the program in g code which will take considerable time and the cnc is not as fast as a duplicator a duplicator can cut a crankbait body in about 60 - 90 seconds just depending on how smooth you want the body the slower it cuts the smoother the body but like bruce said there is alot of thought that goes into the design and into building the final product and be prepared to fork out some major bucks for some precise machine work it will take alot of machine work to keep things precise and in alignment to keep from cutting one end of the body smaller or larger than the original what this meens is if its out of alignment it will cut the front larger or smaller than the original or the tail larger or smaller i know this from experience the cnc machine will however come in handy to cut out flat bodies but imo they are to slow to cut out round bodies thats where a duplicator will be your best bet
  2. hey john all u have to do is make a mold that the lip fits into and mold the lead into the bill its just like lee sissons tuning button in his lips except it further out on the lip:) talk to you later Rob "Jawjacker" Cochran
  3. guys i have a little story about the mrs. she used to ask why i did so many crankbaits to take to the shows that i attend she thought it was silly then she went to one of the shows that i do every year and run the cash register she was amazed at the buisness that was done.this year she was helping me do alot of the work in making my crankbaits and smiling all of the time we were working on it not only can she do any of the steps in it she is now learning to paint and is learning how to make a crankbait do certain things by altering weight or the placment of the weight or the lip angle or line ties ...........she is very interested in the design of crankbaits now and when she cant figure out how to make it do something she will try first before she comes to ask me how to do it:yeah:the only thing i wont let her do is run the routers she can do everything else ................jawjacker

dean thats a very neat color!!!!! it would work on loudon lake very well for smalljaws
  16. thanks dean but i believe that you can be considered da man also since you take the time to help other members on this forum thats what this board is for i was just fortunant to have grown up living near all the "legends" in crankbait making and have spent close to 20 years in developing a way to make crankbaits that will last and catch fish all the praise should go to everyone that takes the time to learn this art thats what will keep it alive when we are all gone to that big lake in the sky so to all that make crankbaits ........ please take the time to teach someone young who you think will carry this craft on.......... i am sure glad that someone and they know who they are took the time to share it with me
  17. thanks for the praise hollywood it was nice chatting with someone from tu face to face for a change instead of looking at an avatar i have also met jblaze in person both of u guys are very fine people and i wish the both of you the best of luck in your crankbait crafting i was just lucky to have some of the legends in this craft to teach me some of the tricks thanks again jawjacker

very nice paint job! dean my wife would swipe that one before i would get to use it she said its to pretty to use:)
  19. john your bait will swim fine this type of bait was made by a guy in east tennessee by a guy named boots anderson he made a crankbait by the name of tennessee shad just about the time fred young was carving out big o s it was just like your design the reason i know this is because i collect old hand made crankbaits and i have several made in that pattern hope to see you at the show jawjacker
  20. quick20xd is right the best way to get a 30plus to its maximum depth and stay there for any amount of time is to weight it by drilling a hole between the line tie and the nose and inserting lead in it shaving the lip helps but it will only give you around a foot more depth take this from someone who lives near douglas and makes many trips to it on a regular basis sometimes thats the only way to catch fish on douglas
  21. nice clean work on those cranks dean:yay:
  22. spike a pike is right i have had a galvanized tank for about two years and it saves alot of time you dont have to run to the lake all of the time and it works great and i dont have any pumps to create current just pull your crankbait on a small rod works for me:)
