  1. ever think about turning your own dowels for plugs or caps on a lathe that might be better than cutting them with a plug cutter?
  2. blackjack bobby and dean are correct that g-10 wears it is a personal prefference as to which material you want to use it should be choosen as to what type of fishing you will be doing both materials are great and you cant go wrong with these materials so which one you use is your choice here in east tennessee most of the pros want g-10 its just a prefference among them they seem to get more strikes with the g-10 than with polycarbonate
  3. guys the pattern sexy shad came from a company in japan blades is right he seen it on a version of a wooden sammy that came from a company prior to lucky craft that made the now famous sammy by luckycraft that company was know as ichybon and the sammy was known as the pro minnow at the time im in the process of making 400 of these for a company in california as we speak hope this clears up some things about the sexy shad:yay:
  4. whitedog there are only a few manufactures of ca glues most of the ca glues are bought in bulk and packaged in a middle mans container and sold as there own product when in fact its made in only a few places in the states so if one is using say a product that i use called zap and you are using the one from tower hobby chances are we are using the same thing since there are only a few formulas of ca glues which are a fast set that penetrates into the wood and a gap filling which does exactly what it implies it builds up to fill in spaces hope this clears up a few things as for how much i think the difference in poly vs fiber lips will gain in depth i dont think it will gain more than a foot or two in depth the major difference will be in the sound or the deflection of the crankbait when it strikes an object say like rock it will sound different it will make a higher pitch sound because it is a harder material than poly which is soft
  5. john ca is short for cyanoacrylate aka super glue or zap hope your cranks are coming along well post some pics when you get a chance later jawjacker
  6. bobp is correct in his post the crankbaits weight -shape- lip angle and the demensions of the lip all determine how a bait will come through brush the lip shape is just what you believe will work best for you i like square but i also can take a round lip and make it come through the same type of structure bobp mentioned gary dees crankbaits as a good crank for wood i can vouch for that i made a crankbait like that about the same time as gary did and its one of the best crankbaits for brush that i have ever made and it has a rounded lip in it so in my opionion its up to the person using the crankbait to see which one works best for them:yay:
  7. willie take deans advice and be real careful not to loose that crankbait u maybe sorry in the longrun remember i collect crankbaits like that and u have seen me at the shows in knoxville and what u dont know is under my table are antique crankbaits that other vendors had out for sale and i got to them before anyone else had the chance to see what was in the show i have been collecting crankbaits longer than u have been alive just ask ur dad he has seen me looking for along time and sometimes u will luck up and find something that is very valuable and thats what makes all the looking worth while:yeah: so be careful with the taclke in ur grandads box they may be worth more than u think:yay: see you on the fort
  8. nice artical bobby was this the guy u were going fishing with when i sent u those cranks to play with? glad to see us small guys in bigtime articals hope to see all of us in them at one point in time

nice looking bait bobby!!!!! glad to see you are doing some round baits now:yay: i will talk to you later back to the old grindstone:yeah: gotta get these top water baits done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. riverman is right there are two kinds of crankbaits one that is designed to catch fishermen and one that catches fish the builders that concentrate on design and function usally come out on top i have learned this over the past 17 years of building thru trial and error and when you pay attention to specific details it will make you a better builder whether u have learned it the way i did or someone has told you how to it doesnt matter as long as you have fun doing that if you think someone elses crankbaits or ideas are better than someone elses thats your opionion and remember opionions are like :censored:holes everyone has one but no one wants to hear from it so just keep building and having fun while doing that isnt that what this sight is for?
  11. i remember seeing a post by a guy who does cut throat baits and was wondering if it is the same person who is going to the show in chattanoga at the end of march if so i would like to get in touch with them if possible thanks
  12. cory craftsmenship comes from years of practice and patience dont get depressed because something doesnt work or turn out the way u thaught it would just sit down and think about what you did to the crankbait and see what you can do to solve it whether its the crankbait or the paint scheme it can be altered to make it look or do whatever you want it to do this is what seperate good crankbait makers from the others its the ability to make a crankbait do what you want it to do and knowing how to make it do that specific task this all comes from time and patience take it from one who has been building close to 20 years i learn something everyday in my shop and i am greatful for that since it will improve everything that you do from then on so if you are getting compliments now just imagine what they will look like 20 years from now i think thats what they call evolution? keep up on the good work and post some pics in the gallery and see if you dont get some good comments from the craftsmen on tu you may just be pleasently suprised
  13. nice work bobby !!!!! hollor at me some time talk to u later
  14. guys he is right he is not the first to do a lip like that if you are lucky enough to have seen or used a bomber speed shad u will see a real close similarity to it dont get me wrong that is an awsome crankbait and i have caught tons of fish with them so keep on cranking them out because you cant hardly find the bombers except on e-bay sometimes later guys:)
  15. hey guys dont forget that east tn has some of the best fishing in the state and that it has six lakes that are within 45 mins of one another not to mention that there are hundreds of crankbait makers in east tn it seems like everyone here makes some sort of plastic or jigs or cranks so dont count out east tn as a meeting place as well the town is easily accessable as well as accomadating flw thought that since they will be here at the end of march to fish in knoxville check it out on flw outdoors and see what you think about knoxville and its fishing
  16. tally you are right about the hammer i have crushed many a crankbait but for every one crushed a lesson was learned a good friend of mine that makes crankbaits for a living and sells to over seas once told me the most important tool he has found was a shower cap he said it would come in handy and that it was used to keep me from pulling my hair out when designing a new crankbait and working all the bugs out of it when a person wanted it to have a certain action and of course he was right but i never give up thats what keeps me from burn out
  17. if you are truely into this you will never get burned out if you are into it for the money you may experience burn out some time because of the repetition of making the same thing over and over the only way to keep from burn out is to keep coming up with new ideas and keep pushing yourself to get better with every idea that you may have
  18. nathan ,dont forget to name the dog router !!!!!!!!!!!

  22. guys that is called a tuning button it was developed by lee sisson when he worked for bagleys it can be done by making a mold of the lip and molding it in with the wire in place to keep everything in line thus the name tuning button:yeah:
