  1. The 32746 mustad that Cadman mentioned is a very good hook. I use them never had any problems. You can fuse the loose end of the fiberguad together (I very quickly stick the loose end of the fiberguard to my melting pot to do this) and put a tube over the fiberguard before curing. I use a piece of 1/8 inch inside dia. copper tubing for this. Also bake them at around 170 degs for about 30 or 35 min. But keep a close check on them. This is for 1/8 in dia fiberguards. This usually keeps them from distorting. Notice I said USUALLY. I personally think its easier to glue them in after baking.
  2. Are you using old wheel weights? If not what type of lead are you melting. Sounds like something is blocking the hole. Your plunger is attached to the lever that opens the gate up to pour.
  3. Whew!! You're awfully young to have all thses bad habits. Just kidding glad to know someone this young is interested in fishing and tackle building. Feel free to shoot me a pm anytime you have a question.
  4. Thanks for the tip Cadman
  5. Thats the same thing I use a 9x13 baking dish. It can sure save some messes. The other day I got the plunger out of line somehow lead was pouring out of the pot if I hadn't had the baking dish it would've been a very bad mess.

Well I've misplaced ( lost ) my notes on making molds from DWP, and its been a few years since I've made one. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is the temp and time to cure the mold. I'm thinking its around 200 degs. for 1 hour. I'm I close on this?? Thanks for the help. Softworm
  9. the do-it banana head is very close
  10. I've got a couple of guys that have to have them molded in when poured, I hate doing it this way takes me twice as long. Much easier glueing them in for me any way. I tie a lot of hair jigs and there's no way to tie them if they are molded in, well I''ve not found a way to do it.
  11. great job, these will be the first of many
  12. thats the secret arkbuck, you are right
  13. robbor, I've made them both ways, and with a wire, I like the seven strand wire better, its not as stiff
  14. Sharp9 I've been pouring baits for several years, and I rarely use salt in anything that I fish with. I don't have any problems with fish holding on to my baits. I think this salt deal catches more fisherman than fish. Baits poured with salt in them (due to the weight of salt) lay flat on the bottom of the lake, baits without salt will float i.e. claws on craws, or the tails of worms. Try some without salt I think you'll be suprised.
  15. I have bought from Lurecraft for about the last five years, and not once have I had any problems, with any of their products or service. Dave has been very helpful in answering any questions that I had. I'm sure the new owners will be just as good or even better. I'll be ordering from them in about a month. Getting stocked up for the winter!!!!!!!! Looking forward to the new catalog. Softworm
  16. Bassn1 our local lake is crystal clear and deeeeeeeeeeep!!!! We've been doing prettygood with 3in. craws salt and pepper with chart. claws. Also been catching fish with the 1/8 oz spider jigs with a paddle tail worm as a trailer, cherryseed color. Green pumpkin and rootbeer pepper green is good colors to use also, tip the claws with a little chart. smallmouth seems to like this at this time of year. Oh we have been fishing at night, can't stand the 90 deg. days!!!!!!!!!
  17. Haebar I use a few of their colors and they work fine. I have some blue that I've had for about 4 years and it still looks great.
  18. Cherryseed 6 oz plastic 15 dr. strawberry (MF) lurecraft strawberry won't give you the same color as zooms ( I've tried) 2 dr. black (MF) L.C. will work but I haven't used it yet so you'll have to experiment with it. 7 dr. red (L.C.) .035 black glitter I also add some .015 red to mine
  19. I have a recipe for it guys, I'll post it sometime Sat. or Sun. We catch a lot of fish on this color in the East TN. lakes
  20. aaafish, I have a 4 and 7 in. ring worm mold made from resin, they both work and look good. I spray cooking oil in the mold before pouring to aid in releasing the worms after they have cooled. This is something (in my mold anyway) that you will probably have to do to get the worms out without tearing them.
