  1. I can tell you from experience that the Lee Production Pots work very well. I have always used them since day one and like anything else it just requires a little practice. I will fill the pot with M-F plastic in the liquid stage and turn the setting to full. Here's the trick. As soon as the plastic starts to turn to a clouded stage then turn the setting down to around #4 and stir occassionally until you have reached the pouring stage. You must use a candy thermometer to monitor the temp. Keep it around 300-310 to start. As you are pouring the plastic it begins to feel thinner and easier to pour even at the lower temp of 300 degrees. The biggest mistake that most people make is that they want to turn the setting up again but that will burn the plastic. Just keep the setting between #4 and #5 and you should be OK. Don't add any flake until the last moment before pouring.

  3. I have tried many different ways to ventilate, but the most effective way so far is to connect 3 bathroom ceiling fans and hang them directly over the pots about 12 inches from the top. This sucks all the fumes out and through flexible metal dryer tubes and out the door of the garage. I then keep another small fan on to blow any extra smoke or fumes coming from the molds after they are poured. You can't tell I'm pouring in the garage unless you are standing outside where the exhaust is blowing. I side note...you must seal all the seams on the fans so they don't blow down on you or your on your work. I will try to submit a pic of the fans.
  4. I have been pouring baits for many years and must say that salt changes the appearance of the baits leaving them with an etched look. It is especially crucial to not use salt in baits when fishing clear water lakes here in west. The only thing that I do is "cook" anise in my plastic, and beleive me the bass hold on a long time. All my customers prefer no salt.
  5. Consistency of a bait is important. What anglers are looking for is a bait that catches fish and if it a certain color has been working for them, they expect the bait to look the same everytime. That's why they call it a "confidence" bait.
